Can't wait to give this a listen, Andy. Sadly, my speakers don't work here at the office. :-(

For those who use the AAC or iTunes feed, you'll notice that I included chapter breaks with artwork in this episode, which will be a standard feature going forward on Newscast.

I'm holding off on writing my sad follow-up to my "Academy of High Expectations" blog until after Zach writes his review.

I'm going to tear Academy of Champions a new asshole. Eff that game.

The link to the MP3 feed is broken. When I clicked on it, I was greeted with a giant wall of text and URLs relating to previous episodes of the Newscast.

Hmm, I'll see what I can do about that.  If you right click on the feed link and copy it to your clipboard, you should be able to paste it into an aggregator program like iTunes.

I changed the http:// to feed:// in the links, which is the same way that RFN does it.  Does that help?

Cheers, Andy. I'm listening to it now - up to the start of "What're ya reviewing?". Heheh... I just imagine the Resident Evil 4 merchant saying that.

The Joystiq Podcast actually put out a call for listeners to remix "Whatcha Playin?" in the RE4 voice, and they've played different submissions every week since then.  Some of them are creepy, some of them are funny.  Some are just weird.

Thanks for listening!

All finished. Brilliant show this week. The crew is really coming together now, I reckon. You're all speaking naturally and everything flows very smoothly because of it.

I find it amusing how EA is using Nintendo as a scapegoat for the low sales of their own games. With Nintendo helping out Capcom and Square Enix to promote Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest respectively, it makes sense because both of those third parties are primarily Japanese; their Western branches are probably less willing/able to spend a lot on advertising, hence the obvious need for assistance from NoA and NoE. EA, on the other hand, are a Western publisher - one of the biggest video game publishers at that. All of their resources are focused on selling it to America and Europe, so they should not need Nintendo to hold their hand when it comes to marketing.
A Japanese publisher having trouble selling to the West I can understand, but a Western publisher having trouble selling to the West... sorry EA, I'm not buying that excuse. Nintendo shouldn't have to finance your advertising campaigns for you to be successful, you just have to try harder.

By the way, Neal, I got Rabbids Go Home yesterday. Now, you mentioned getting codes off a website to unlock some additional costumes. Can these be unlocked by simply playing the game normally, or are they only accessible via these codes, akin to the hidden modes in Madden 10? 'Cause if it's the former, I'd like to find them myself, but if it's the latter, I'll seek out the codes.

Glad you're digging the show!

Pretty sure they're just pre-order bonus BS. You do come across some in the game (I think there's one that unlocks after 100% completion), but I believe all the codes are for stuff that you can't come across in the game already.

Check out Gamefaqs for all the codes.

Wait, someone actually loved MaBoShi?

DS carts have load times, all carts do but especially on old systems you didn't notice because the system RAM wasn't much larger than the bandwidth to the cart. Flash memory has load times too, all memory can only be accessed at a certain rate though some is much faster than other. Some WiiWare games have serious load times too.

I agree with KDR, Chessmaster on GBA had load times. DS carts are also different from older types of carts since they use matrix memory that ranges from 64 Mb (as in Megabits not megabytes) to 4 Gb (Gigabits). It's also been reported that higher capacity DS cards are slower, though I have a suspicion that part of the reason is because there is so much data to access and the DS doesn't have a big memory bandwidth.

Yeah, Newscast is getting really good.

As for load times, the reasons given are probably correct, but good developers can always minimize load times, regardless of format.
