Title: Mafia L: Story of a Pivotal Town Signup Thread

Roles:
The Madness:  The Madness has taken you.  You must now choose a target to have a chance to kill it .
At night:  The mechanic works as a 50% chance to kill a target since madmen are sloppy, attempt is not guaranteed to be known.  If someone effected by The Madness is the target of a Mafia Hit there is a 50% chance that instead of performing their intended kill the randomly chosen Mafia Hitter will be killed instead this will be known and the entity with The Madness will survive otherwise they will die from the Mafia hit.  Someone with The Madness will receive sanity when protected by The Saving Spirit.  Since The Madness is effectively countered you return back to your normal state instead of being safe for the night. If you survive both The Madness and The Saving Spirit will be known to each other in the Morning.  The Madness and The Saving Spirit will need more time to find viable hosts after this countering and will not be in play the next night.  Also any role that has an ability will not be able to use them while affected by The Madness.
Day:  Since Madness is mad someone with The Madness may strike during the day but, run a 75% chance to reveal their role in doing so.  If Countered by The Saving Spirit you will both be known to each other for that day.  Victims will be informed regardless of Reveal if the kill is successful.  Any action that is designated before the kill will count if after will not.  Once the kill happens consider yourself dead at that point.  All rules apply.
Vote:  If someone with The Madness is voted out but successfully completes there kill for the night, not during the day, it is deemed they have escaped.  Hence being put back to a normal state by The Saving Spirit will guarantee death from vote.
Essentially someone effected by The Madness can only cause 1 death.

Inspector: Chooses 1 person to inspect per night.  This inspection will always happen except for if the Inspector is taken during the day or has The Madness.  Inspections will reveal all roles, ex. it could reveal Ceric: Townie, The Madness.  If the Inspector is removed from play for any reason during the night they may choose 1 player to have a 50% chance to relay the inspections results.  If the results are successfully relayed the inspector will not be told if they are not the inspector will be told what their dieing inspection was.  With this mechanic the Inspector will have the honor of knowing they were removed from play before the morning story.  They may also choose to just designate someone when they put their target in.

Mafia: 1 hour before the Vote is up all votes must be in for a hit.  If there is no votes for a target or if the majority of mafia give a vote of "No Hit" there will be no target for the night.  Initially the Mafia will not know one another.  There will be at least 1 reveal attempt a night but, I reserve the right to modify how fast/often reveals will happen.  In a typical night every Mafia Member will randomly have a player catch their eye.  They will not know who that player is.  If it turns out that the random player is a mafia member the observing player will be informed who they are.  Here's the other wrinkle.  If the randomly chosen player is affected by either The Madness or The Saving Spirit regardless of true role/faction the mafia member will be told only that they are the The Madness or The Saving Spirit for that night.  Further hidden customization for story purposes will be allowed for Mafia Members, more in PM.

The Saving Spirit:  You may target 1 individual to be safe during the night phase.  The target must be put in by 1 hour before the end of voting.  If the target is effected by The Madness you will save the target from The Madness thus turning them normal.  Normal meaning that while you have saved a life from The Madness they are now no longer safe from Votes and Hits.

Townie:  Look Cute and Vote ;P
Voting:
Day: Voting Period (Was thinking 9a-9p CST)
Night: Non-Voting Period (Was thinking 9p-9a CST)

Voting:  From 9a-8p CST you may change your vote.  Once 8p CST comes around whatever your last vote is will be final.  If you have not voted yet from 8p-9p you are allowed to place a single vote that cannot be changed.  Votes will only be taken in the public vote thread.  All other actions will need to be PMed.
Setting:  This Mafia will take place in a town about the size and density of Chicago.  The year will be 20xx so Robots while not common are starting to integrate into society. If you really want to play one you can.  Life has yet to be found on other planets so, there are no aliens.  I’m pretty flexible on what the common denizens of the world is just nothing to way out there.  In general there needs to be a common whatever.
Win Condition:  Last Mafia is dead or Last Mafia is possessed by The Saving Spirit.
Signup: April 18, 2011 – April 23, 2011
Game:  Roles go out on April 24, 2011 and the first day is April 25, 2011.  April 26, 2011 will be the first day that action results are given, and The Madness and The Saving Spirit will come into play.

Outline Form of the Rules (Better then  above I think)
 
I. Roles
    a. The Madness
        i.  must choose a target
        ii. Target needs to be in 1 hour before Voting Cut-off or one will be chosen for you (including you)
        iii. Cannot use abilities while effected
            1. Examples
                a. Inspector couldn’t inspect
                b. Mafia couldn’t vote for Hit or receive their member reveal
        iv. 50% chance to kill desired target
            1. attempt is not guaranteed to be known
            2. kill will be known
        v.  Mafia Hit Target
            1. 50% chance to Kill Mafia Hitter
                a. This will be done instead of the given target
                b. Kill will always be known
                c. Player with The Madness will survive if Mafia is killed
                d. If Mafia kill goes through normal Madness kill rules go through (see I.a.iii)
        vi. The Saving Spirit and The Madness Interaction
            1. Sanity gained from The Saving Spirit Protection
                a. Returns the player back to a their  original state
                b. If saved before action cutoff actions may be used unless The Madness action has already taken place
                c. Survive
                    i. Madness will be informed who was the Saving Spirit
                    ii. Saving Spirit will know who was The Madness
                d. The Saving Spirit and The Madness will be out of play the next day
        vii. Day Action
            1. May issue a Kill during the day
            2. 75% Chance to Reveal Role
            3. Saving Spirit and Madness will be known to each other if Saving Spirit prevents
            4. Mafia counter hit Mechanic is negated on successful kill
            5. Victim
                a. Pre-kill Designated actions of the Victim will go through
                b. Once informed of being dead consider yourself in limbo till a story post reveals your dead
            6. You cannot have a Day and Night target
            7. All normal rules apply except where otherwise stated
        viii. Vote
            1. If Night kill is completed successfully
                a. Considered escaped
                b. Will survive vote kill
            2. Being put back to normal from The Saving Spirit will insure your death because you’re a normal joe
            3. Someone with The Madness may Vote par Normal
        ix. Affected player cannot be the Target for The Saving Spirit or The Madness for the next day
    b. Inspector
        i. 1 player a night to inspect
        ii. Inspection will  reveal all Roles
            1. Examples
                a. Ceric: The Madness; Townie
                b. Cat Tank:  Mafia
        iii. Death
            1. 50% chance for Inspector to have the information relayed to a living player
            2. 50% chance for the information to be relayed to the dead Inspector
            3. Designating player for relay
                a. Send in a player at time of Inspection Action Request
                b. Host will ask if none are designated and the roll turns gives the inspection to the Live player
                    i. At this point you are considered dead
        iv. While effected by The Madness no Inspection can occur
    c. Mafia
        i. Hit Vote
            1. 1 vote per member
            2. Majority wins
            3. Ties broken by random chance
            4. May vote “No Hit” to forego killing anyone that night
            5. No Vote = No Hit as well
            6. Hit Vote must be in 1 hour before Voting finishes
        ii. Internal Mafia Reveal Mechanic
            1. Mafia Starts unknown to each other
            2. Random player will be chosen for the Mafia member to investigate
            3. Member will be told exclusively
                a. Name of Members who are Mafia
                b. If someone is The Saving Spirit or The Madness
                c. Example 1
                    i. Ceric is really Mafia but he has The Saving Spirit
                    ii. Cat Tank random inspect lands on Ceric
                    iii. Cat Tank is told Ceric was The Saving Spirit
                d. Example 2
                    i. Ceric is Mafia
                    ii. Cat Tank random inspect lands on Ceric
                    iii. Cat Tank is told Ceric is Mafia
                e. Example 3
                    i. Ceric is a Townie
                    ii. Cat Tank random inspect lands on Ceric
                    iii. Cat Tank is told Nothing (well maybe some flavor text)
                f. Example 4
                    i. Ceric  is a Townie and The Madness
                    ii. Cat Tank random inspect lands on Ceric
                    iii. Cat Tank is told Ceric was The Madness
            4. Will be at least 1 per night  but I reserve the right to go faster if need be
        iii. Mafia members will have series of additional customization to their characters to make for story purposes.  These will be PMed with roles.
    d. The Saving Spirit
        i. May target 1 player to be safe for that night
        ii. Target needs to be selected by 1 hour before the end of Voting
        iii. The Saving Spirit and The Madness Interaction
            1. Sanity gained from The Saving Spirit Protection
                a. Returns the player with The Madness back to a their  original state
                b. Negation of The Madness will occur as soon as the save target is designated
                c. Madness Survive the Night
                    i. Madness will be informed who was the Saving Spirit
                    ii. Saving Spirit will know who was The Madness
                d. The Saving Spirit and The Madness will be out of play the next day
        iv. Player who is The Saving Spirit cannot be either The Saving Spirit or The Madness the next day
    e. Townies
        i. Look Cute
        ii. Vote
II. Voting
    a. All Votes will only be counted in the Public Voting thread
    b. Voting Period
        i. Start:  ~9am CST
            1. When Vote Thread appears
        ii. End: 9m CST
        iii. May change your vote till 8p CST
        iv. Sticky Vote
            1. 8p-9p CST is Sticky vote time
            2. If you have not voted from 9a-8p CST you may vote still
            3. First vote with a timestamp at or after 8p will be your vote all votes after this vote will be ignored
        v. Everyone can always vote in General Voting except when Dead
    c. Non-Voting Period
        i. Start:  9p CST
        ii. End: 9a CST
III. Setting
    a. Chicago Size and Density Town
    b. Year
        i. 20xx
    c. Denizens
        i. People
            1. A common entity type
        ii. Robots
            1. Just gaining acceptance Rare
        iii. Life has yet to be found on other worlds
IV. Win Condition
    a. All Mafia is Dead
    b. Last Mafia is possessed by The Saving Spirit
V. Death
    a. You are Dead when you are PMed as Dead unless instructed otherwise
    b. You are Dead when the Story Says so
    c. The Dead may not talk to the living
    d. The Living may not talk to the dead
    e. The Dead are allowed to read all the Living Threads but not post
    f. The Living cannot read or post in the Dead thread and found out will be passed over to the Realm of the Dead by some clever or not so clever plot mechanic
VI. Typical Day
    a. ~9a CST
        i.  Story is up
        ii. Voting can commence
    b. Throughout the Day
        i. Madness Event can Happen.
    c. 8p CST 
        i. 1 hour before actions need to be in
            1. Mafia
            2. The Madness
            3. The Saving Spirits
            4. Any actions after this cut off time will be considered next days
        ii. Strict Vote begins
    d. 9p CST
        i. Vote Closes
        ii.  Inspector Action Must be in
        iii.  Any Inspector actions after this cut off time will be considered next days

I guess I will sign up.Its really early so the rules I'll ask about later. For the Ratio of Mafia to townies I think it is 1 mafia for every 4 townies. Somebody correct me if that isn't right.

I updated the Rules a little but clarifying a few things that I thought had to much wiggle.  Also put the rules in an outline form that I believe is easier to follow.

Should be able to.  I personally just read the outline one I find them easier to read.

Pretty much boils down to:

If Townie:
Vote

If Mafia:
Vote
Vote for Hit

If Inspector:
Vote
Give Inspection Target
Give if Die Relay

If Madness:
Vote
Choose Kill target.  Decide Day or Night

Saving Spirit:
Vote
Choose Someone to Save

Then any action that can save or kill someone needs to be in an hour before vote close at latest.  Thats all I'm really asking for.  The Madness is in to make the game a little less lock step predictable.  Mafia Reveal Mechanic is driven by the story.

All the rules are there so you know I'm not just arbitraly making things up but, my hope is this will play like a game with a Doctor, Mad Bomber, Mafia, Inspector, Townies.  With a noticeable differense of spreading the Doctor and Mad Bomber role around to different players.

Alright, Signups are Closed.
As of this time I don't believe I have Mod powers on the Mafia board but we can work through that.

There are 17 Players,  which is a relatively good turn out.  Roles should come out sometime today and Gameplay will start tomorrow with the first story post.
