Buy a used copy of Diamond/Pearl or wait for Platinum?
« on: March 12, 2009, 03:37:18 PM »
Okay, well I've been looking into the new pokemon games (I haven't played any since Silver, the newer pokemon past the 250 or so mark never caught my attention) and I've decided to buy one.

Now, I'm not really sure how much different D/P are to Plat., so I decided to ask you guys.  I'm definitely going down to gamestop tomorrow to buy something...

So guys, which one do you think would be best?

Also, does D/P/Plat. have my two favorite pokemon, Karbby/Kingler and Heracross?

(not my favorite, but Geodude would be a plus, too!)

Thanks.

I'd personally go for Platinum.  It has the Battle Frontier which gives it even more replayability than D/P.  As for your favorite Pokemon, they can be found in all three versions.  Krabby comes in swarms, Heracross can be found on Sweet Honey Trees, and Geodudes are all over the place.

Uranium.

It'll be out next year.

Too true. :P

It's a place that opens up after beating the elite four.  Basically it consists of a bunch of gym like buildings where you battle under certain conditions.  It is known to be pretty challenging.  This page has some more info on it.

I was actually kind of peeved that they didn't include it in D/P as it was introduced in Emerald.

Battle Frontier sounds pretty cool.  I'll definitely have to wait for platinum now.  It always annoyed me how there was very little to do after you beat the elite 4.

thanks for the info.

In D/P it was restricted to wi-fi battles and trading.  :(  I'm pretty sure it's the same with Platinum but I'm not 100% sure how it's new wi-fi modes are going to work.

I just got back from Target, where they had Platinum out on the shelf... I guess they think "street date" is some sort of retro 2D fighter.

Diamon and Pearl no all the Wi-Fi features besides trading is strictly with people in your FC list, I don't know about Platinum.

That'd be cool if it does in Platinum.

No big deal though, i'll join a community or something if I feel battle starved.

As someone who has Diamond and is buying Platinum, I think you should pick up Platinum. I got back into Pokemon by picking up Emerald a few months before Diamond came out. I found Emerald much more interesting than Sapphire or Ruby because of the Battle Frontier and all the extras.

If you ever need someone to battle, trade, or get advice from, feel free to pm me.

So far, Platinum is awesome.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

I promised my little sister I would get this so I could trade her pokemon on her Diamond version. We were at Toys R Us for the Regigigas D/L but they didn't have the game.
Big bummer. I'll have to try and find it tomorrow.

I'll be sure to drop my FC for the game when I get it this week. I'll especially need to trade with Pearl players because my sister only has Diamond.
I also have Emerald so if you need something from there I could farm that game as well.

I'm a Pokemon Virgin, would I be terribly confused if I bought Platinum as my first PKMN game? I have been dying to get a real PKMN game...I tried those Dungeon games, but I didn't like them.

I think Platinum would be a good starting one. It has extra features and all the games are good at starting you off easy like it is your first one.

There's no real fundamental difference between any of the games so you could start with any one and still be fine. Treat each new installment like a remake, because that is basically what they are. There's no ongoing story that you'll be missing out on, and all of the concepts of the game are still explained in each game so you don't having to worry about not knowing something.
