I will say, although I don't think Microsoft really sold a reason to upgrade to the Xbox One X (ugh), I'm happy they're working on giving me an excuse to keep it plugged in.  There was a diverse set of games shown in their conference, and if robust, their backwards compatibility features might keep me engaged.


This is the benefits of competition and them trailing behind Sony.

Just out of curiosity, is Xbox 2002 backwards compatibility only for the xXxbox Return of Xander Cage, or is it also for the Xbone S model? As someone who's never owned an Xbox I'm admittedly not very interested, but if they handle it well the Xbone S model could amass an interesting critical mass to warrant a purchase at some point way down the line for me.

Like, if they bring Panzer Dragoon Orta, Burnout 3, Psychonauts, Jade Empire, that 3D Oddworld game, MechAssault, Crimson Skies and stuff over, combined with that gorgeous Forza 7 I miiiiiight be ever so slightly interested. Plus they're also BC with X360 right? There's bound to be stuff on there that I would dig too.

Neat link, thanks! Yeah makes sense they'd do it on all the Xbox One consoles. Things like Daytona, NiGHTS Into Dreams, Beyond Good & Evil HD I would all wanna play as well. Presumably these are all on their digital store too right? It's so weird I've almost never used an xbox, let alone see its user interface haha.
Maybe in a couple of years when the One S models are way cheaper I'll spring for one though, there's a lot of cool stuff/potential here. Panzer Dragoon Orta is a must though imo.

I'm intrigued by the backwards compatibility, but I'm still not sold on getting an xXxBoX_OnE_xXx.  I did like MS made it a point to say that you wouldn't need a 4K TV to appreciate the extra horsepower.

The game I'm most interested in from their show, however, is Cup Head.  The others looked fun, but too many always-online FPSes.

So ubisoft was okay except for one thing.. Rabbids and Mario I did like the gameplay. Personality could be better for the Rabbids. Asscreed Origins looks good.  a few other things and then finally.... The Monster Hunter Reddit is going ballistic about the PS/XBox/PC Monster Hunter announcement. And not entirely in a good way.


There was a rumor leaked a week or so ago that predicted this perfectly. The gist is that Capcom signed a deal with Sony and Capcom regrets it after the Switch exploded. So they are making a spin-off on non-Nintendo systems and keeping the "mainline" games on Nintendo systems.

Well, Double Cross/Generations Ultimate was already revealed for Switch, and will include cross-play with the 3DS version. You can port your data from regular Gen too, so that will be a plus.


I expect that to appear in Nintendo's reveal tomorrow.

I liked Sony's press conference.  All trailer, no fluff.  But a few things stuck out.

Number 1:

I just don't get why so many people were drooling over that remake when it was remade last gen.  It's already been in HD.  Is this really that exciting?

Number 2:
Soooo many of those games had vague "2018" dates.  Which is typical for Sony, but still.

All-in-all a good show for Sony, who probably had an easier time since they don't have a new console they need to shell.

So.  If you played the "HD remaster" on PS3.  The visual upgrades were mostly about smoothing out the edges over the PS2 models, as well as getting the game a consistent framerate, which was a real problem on the PS2 version.  It looks nice, but it's clear that it's more shining a polish on the original game.


Without having actual knowledge, the trailer looked pretty likely that it was an actual remake from the ground up.  Everything in that trailer looks so much nicer than the original game AND the PS3 remaster. 

Shadow of the Colossus is a game I revisit every year or so.  And assuming they don't botch something core in the game, the framerate stays solid, and it looks that good?  I'm in. 


Only missed opportunity - I've read before there were additional colossus that were cut from the original game.  It's too bad they didn't have enough inertia to revisit the possibility of adding those in game.

Rocket League is a good get for Nintendo, even if I have stated in other threads that I don't think it's the best platform to play it on.


It's telling how much people have wanted a new Metroid game based on how much fervor is being made about literally just an announcement of its existence.


Zelda Story DLC appears to revolve around the four champions.  Guessing it's going to take place before the events of BotW, maybe the events leading-up to Calamity Ganon.


They did a fantastic job with that Mario Trailer, I was fully expecting it to be Monster hunter, then they pull a bait and switch, then they got totally crazy.


All 3 platforms have games coming out within the next 12 months I want now, so I'm not concerned over "winners/losers".


Some questions I'd like answered by Nintendo:


Virtual Console? - When/If it'll exist, what platforms will be supported, etc.


Indies - A lot of indie games have been announced, curious when some of these will get firm dates or released.  While Rocket League is a BIG get, I would have also liked to maybe see more indie announcements.

I'm afraid not. Just look at your avatar. You saw other people with it and just followed the crowd to keep from standing out. Can't trust your opinion because you'll clearly bow to peer pressure. I like that SM Odyssey had a full out original swing tune for its trailer. I assume the song is or will shortly be available for download? It's a pretty great standalone tune, IMHO.

I reserve judgement til there's some way to try it out.  Spider-Man 2 has ruined the way I think Spider-Man should feel when you're traversing NYC.

Ultimate Spiderman has been my fave so far, but I also really liked Shattered Dimensions and, yes, Amazing Spiderman (I have it on WiiU). There's fun swinging around the city in that last one.

The game looked gorgeous.
But it looked like something I'd rather watch than play... the constant quick-time events do make sure that something cool is constantly happening on screen.


QTE seems like it could be a good and immersive idea, but has so rarely been fun. That hasn't changed since the days of Dragon's Lair.

I liked Spider-Man 2 the best as well, even if the story was kinda poorly done. Ultimate Spider-Man a bit later was better in that regard, as well as visuals, but the city felt smaller and the combat was a lot more limited. Oh and there's some stupid unskippable "hammer the button to open a door" sequences as Venom which are phenomenally awful.

The new game looks very cool, but it's PS4 only huh? Maybe I'll just grab Batman Arkham City for Wii U on the cheap and pretend it's Spidey instead.
