No thread for E3?

- Quake, Prey and a demo of Doom. Bethesda is having a good conference.

What is everyone seeing?

Prey and Dishonored 2 look great. I'm willing to give Titanfall 2 another chance now that it looks like the devs may be fleshing out the experience a lot more ala Garden Warfare 1 to Garden Warfare 2. Nothing else that was shown today did anything for me.

And Skyrim PS4 can **** off. You can toss all the pretty shaders on that piece of **** all you want. If it's still using the same terrible engine, I'm not touching it. The godawful PS3 version of this game is what made me swear off all Fallout/Elder Scrolls game.

Meh. I've never been less excited about E3.

PS4 and XBone are still massive disappointments to me, and hearing they are doing new hardware revisions that are apparently to support overpriced VR headsets is a complete turn-off.  And Nintendo?  Let's not even get into that mess.

Maybe there will be some cool news come out that is fun to hear... but right now I couldn't give a crap about E3 happening this week.

That's exactly how I feel. I frankly don't even want to remember that E3 is happening since the idea of E3 can still cause unwarranted hype and I don't expect there to be anything to justify any hype I could feel.

Microsoft's approach with Scorpio and the Model S seems rather odd.  So a new model of the XB1 will be out in August but then they officially announced the XB1.5 in the same press conference.  So why would I buy the Model S when I have confirmation that something better is coming along?  Wouldn't I just wait until the better model came out if I wanted an XB1.  Seems like it would be rather shortsighted of me to buy a "regular" XB1 now when I know it will get surpassed in a year or so.

Typically you delay announcing the hot new hardware as long as possible to avoid hurting your current sales.  You certainly don't announce the new hardware at the same time as a new SKU that you're hoping to sell.  The Model S is literally obsolete BEFORE it goes on sale!

So far the one E3 appearance to really get me excited is Mass Effect Andromeda.  We already knew that existed but it's still fun to see a new trailer.

It feels like MS is shooting themselves in the foot with 2 hardware announcements, but I think we can all guess that the XB1.5 will be priced pretty high.  You want the model S now, if you don't care about 4K and VR.  Otherwise, you wait for the more premium model.

Sony had a great conference because they seem to be the first ones to understand that no one likes to hear so many talking head spout PR crap and play awkward demos. The show flowed very well and even the long gameplay segments did not wear out their welcome.

That being said, I'm probably playing more Xbox One games this year than PS4 games. Lotta stuff "in development".

Sony focusing on the games wins them the day again, but a lack of release dates leaves a bad aftertaste.

Xbox: Highest quality pixels anybody has ever seen

LOLOLOLOL

MS pretty much just shat the bed. There is virtually no reason to buy a Bone of any flavour.

Just in case you're not aware, Native 4K gaming wouldn't be real for consoles until the generation after next. There just isn't enough horse power to drive it on a single GPU no matter how much money to pay. GTX1080 levels of power won't be available at console price point for at least 5-8 years, even then a GTX 1080 doesn't have enough power to drive 4K. So if anybody talks about  4K gaming is spewing a pack of lies.

The Resident Evil VII trailer did nothing for me. I still want to see more of it.

God of War doesn't do anything for me either. Kratos got his revenge. How is there more story? I would've preferred a full reboot if Sony was going to bother at all.

I'm not understanding what's so new about the new Xbox One controllers. I read about new control sticks and the customization stuff. I guess that's cool. I still don't know why Microsoft wants to make its consoles annoying to clean. What's with all the indentations in the S model?

Haven't watched all the trailers, but not too impressed so far from what I'm seeing/reading so far. I was probably most interested in whatever Resident Evil VII was going to be, and kudos to them for going a radically different direction, but yikes does that look like an Outlast clone.

The Spiderman game looks impressive, but I've never liked anything Insomniac has produced. Horizon has a cool conceit, but it looks very open-worldy, crafty-RPGy. Sony Zombie game is boring. The ReCore trailer is awful all around, but it's hard to tell what the game is even like outside of some shitty combat.

Here's hoping Zelda is super baller tomorrow.

Edit: Ha, watched the trailer for Inside, the next game from the developers of Limbo, and it's my favorite so far. It showed zero gameplay (I think?) but I have hope in my heart.

Sony's showing just seemed really solid.  I don't care about God of War but potentially making RE good again and a solid release date for Last Guardian and Kojima(!)?  That beats the pants out of Microsoft's pixels.

Nintendo is probably not going to top it because I don't really expect anything truly surprising from them.  New announcements are usually the big hype generators at E3 and I expect there to be none, with everything being saved for the NX debut.  Unless there is some previously unknown detail about the new Zelda that just blows everyone away (no, girl Link would not be enough).

I heartily agree. **** this E3. **** this E3 in particular. Just terrible conferences across the board in terms of variety of content. Every single game was either a shooter, open world, or a zombie game. Sometimes, they were all 3. Sony in particular pissed me off because they have so many games they could have shown, and those are the ones they chose to highlight? Gravity Rush 2? Persona 5? Wild? Bloodstained? Yooka-Laylee? No. **** those. They have color and life in them. Let's put another goddamn Last of Us clone out there instead. Twice.

And in other conferences, even other games I was interested in were ruined by terrible music in their trailers, like Recore. EA could have shown what was coming up in Garden Warfare 2's summer expansion. Did they? No, we need to show 2 stunt men hitting each other with sticks while stock Star Wars music played. We needed a half hour of ****ing FIFA.

I like shooters. I like open world games. Hell, I even like shooting zombies on occasion. But those aren't the only style of games I like, and those were the only style of games shown. Even Zelda is yet another goddamn open world game.If those are the only types of games companies are going to show, just don't even have these conferences.

Maybe Gamescom will be better.
