NWR Feedback / RE: New Forum Poll - Please Participate!
« on: June 10, 2004, 12:49:44 PM »
i voted the last option... "The downloads do not work for me."

i'm using Firefox 0.8 on a Win XP Pro machine, and upon clicking on the download link, i get a save download to save the actual PHP file. Same with the latest Mozilla. Sure, i *could* use IE, but i've gotten to the point now where if i won't open in Firefox, i won't open it, unless it's something like my bank, which works well with Firefox. i usually know of a couple of places to get videos from, so i check them first since PGC's downloads don't work well with Firefox. Of course, it's nothing personal. i just don't have the time, patience, or interests to switch browsers for one site, unless it's something *really* good or exclusive (like PGC interviews or rumors).

On the plus side, another congratulations on PGC Pocket. i haven't used it in about a month (i moved again...) but last i used it it works great. i use Plucker (www.plkr.org) to sync and it works great. If it wasn't for PGC Pocket, i'd hardly be browsing the main site anymore.

Got my Xblaster. Games look great on monitor, though some are a bit too sharp (cel-shaded).

Games played so far:

MGS:TT
Waverace: BS
SMS
Naruto 2
Viewtiful Joe
Smash Bros. Melee

Further impressions with pictures tonight (hopefully).

The Xblaster converts a component signal to VGA, and has a pass-through so you don't have to reconnect your monitor when you're done. You'll still need a component cable though. i should have my cable later this week, and i'll post impressions after i get a chance to use it.

Check www.copperbox.com. Price should be around $49-$69.

Filezilla -- An excellent FTP client with lots of features. i've been using it for the past month and it's much more complete than EFTP, which i may have originally recommended.

General Gaming / RE: Pro Logic II on Gamecube FAQ
« on: December 13, 2003, 07:38:24 AM »
i don't have the Z-680 set but i'd recommend downloading the setup guide on Logitech's support page for the Z-680:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=support/products/details&CRID=322&CONTENTID=5048&countryid=19&languageid=1

On page 7 of the guide, read the paragraph about analog connections in the "Video game consoles" section. Since i don't know what type of adapter the Digital SoundTouch Control Center uses, take it as well as your Gamecube AV cable to Radio Shack, Best Buy, or any other store that sells audio equipment, and ask someone that works there.

After you have your adapter, use it to connect the Gamecube AV cable to the Digital SoundTouch Control Center, and select Dolby Pro Logic II Movie on the Digital SoundTouch Control Center. Also make sure Pro Logic II is selected in your game. It's sometimes referred to as surround in some games. If you're not sure if your game supports Pro Logic II, check the back of the box.

Again, not having the Z-680 or experience with one i can't say for sure, but this should work.

i just got another PDA (Sony's UX-50) and while i can browse the main site in NetFront, the default browser well enough, PGC Pocket fits better on the screen. Glad to see you didn't abandon it for the .01% of PGC readers who use it.

PSO only here, although i'll need to reactivate my Hunter's License as i haven't played online in months. i'll likely get Mario Kart when i get 1080 next week, although having recently moved i've only got my 5" LCD screen to play on, so i don't know how proficient in either i'll get before i get to play online.

Not to mention that you are "seeing" things with your eyes closed...

i just liken it to rendering an image to hard drive as opposed to screen. Different output device, that's all.

i used to have my webcam recording me while sleeping. i think i'll start doing that again to see if i say/do anything in my sleep, and try and tie that in with any dreams i might have. i'd love to have an infrared cam, because i really can't see much until morning.

General Chat / RE:Okay, so what is your PHOBIA?
« on: October 23, 2003, 06:51:43 PM »
i have a phobia of babies. i don't know if "phobia" is the right word though. i'm not afraid of them in the sense that they may hurt me, but in the sense that i might hurt them. Fathers of newborn babies sometimes have this fear, that they might "break it". Not sure why i have it.

Most of my dreams (at least the few i remember) are related to sex, and so, i can't discuss them here. But it leads me to wonder: If sex dreams aren't strictly about sex, why am i having them? i'm not complaining about having them, nor am i complaining about my lucidity, but it just bugs me. i want to know why things happen and dreams are still an enigma to me.

Yeah, the ones right by the door as you enter the house. It looks like one of those homes where the husband is cheating with the babysitter and eventually kills his wife.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Pro Logic II is pretty damn fun if you ask me.
« on: September 29, 2003, 02:35:53 AM »
i picked up an Onkyo HTIB with an HT-R500 receiver. The speakers are huge, and while they have generally good output, speakers are usually the weaker component in HTIBs. My uncle was playing Rogue Leader, and he forgot to turn the volume down when he got through. When i switched the receiver to another input so that i could listen to MP3s through my PC, it blasted music at defeaning volume. It's a problem with my tv; the sound output is much weaker than just about any other device i've hooked up to the receiver, and so i've had to adjust levels between devices. i've got all my levels pretty well set now, but i still occasionally turn my tv up.

In any case, it's a good excuse to get better speakers.

And if you haven't already, you *must* play Metroid Prime on your receiver. Once you hear it through your receiver, it'll be dead to you without it. Make sure to select "Dolby" in sound options.

Great stereo effects I never knew existed, and who knew the NES had bass?

Unless you have an NES with stereo output, there's no stereo sound on NES. Pro Logic II won't change that. Also, for your MP3s, Google up Enhancer 0.17 (latest version). It should be on Winamp 2.x's plugins page. It makes those 128kbps MP3s sound more like 192kbps. Best DSP plugin i've heard, it's easy to use, and it's free.

Its fun unless your speakers blew out wich happen to me and there went alot of money.

My uncle did this to mine playing Rogue Leader. They're not quite blown but there's a lot of static on highs and lows.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Billy Hatcher high-res commercial capture
« on: September 26, 2003, 12:54:31 PM »
The song and vocals match the theme of the game. i could be mistaken but the song sounds like it's from the soundtrack. Lyrics aside, it sounds like a lighter version of an early 90s alternative rock song (Belly, Letters to Cleo, etc.). Good stuff.

i don't see what's wrong with the commercial. It doesn't follow the edginess of the F-Zero commercial, or the geeky-coolness of the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance commercial, but i really like it. Most of it is actually from the game, which is always a plus for me.

Parasite Eve and Xenogears just seemed uninspired to ME!

i don't see how considering  both soundtracks are major departures from the classic Square/Nobuo Uematsu stuff. Parasite Eve mixes haunting opera singing with some an amazingly reverberous piano, rock guitar, and some electronic beats. i can't quite explain Xenogears's music. Yasunori has more "worldly" sound than Nobuo, and you can hear celtic and mideastern influences. Even the standard orchestrated themes sound more grand and bold than Uematsu's work.

Grey Ninja, have you heard the PE Remixes? There's a remix of Somnia Memorias that's in English. i'm not sure if the lyrics are translated from the version in-game, but it's beautiful.

i also need to add the Panzer Dragoon Saga OST. Saori Kobayashi and Mariko Nanba are musical goddesses. If you've never heard the end theme to the game ("Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu"), consider yourself deprived.

Termin8, the first Nintendo console to go online was the Famicom. Sorry, just correcting ya.  The only Nintendo console to NOT go online was the N64.

i suppose it depends on your definition of "online". Personally i feel that an online console is able to connect to a remote network, not another console. The Super Famicom was the first online console to me. Also, the 64DD had Randnet, which shut down last year if i remember correctly.

Perhaps it's because i simply don't own Soul Calibur II, but i've listened extensively to the soundtrack and find it lacking compared to Soul Calibur. i own the Soul Calibur OST and listen to it from time to time. The themes for Maxi, Taki, Xianhua (hey, it's catchy!), and the beautiful intro are my faves on that disc.

The Khan Super Session CD (Soul Edge/Blade remix tracks) is beautiful. Hagakure, Yellow Sands, and Another Castaway are my favorites. One of these days i've got to pick up the disc. i've had the MP3s for years and for some reason it's one of the few game soundtracks i haven't actually bought.

Also, a plug for the Strider OST. It's on an 8cm CD that comes with the Strider 2 OST. For those of you who've played it (arcade or Genesis versions), you know how much it rocks.

Do you have this disc yourself? Any disc with PARANOiA on it is deemed good by all.

There's way too many tracks for me to list in my favorites list, although having recently bought F-Zero, i'd say the Firefield BGM is my favorite. i've had the MP3 for a while, but listening to it direct from the game is even better. The opening bass when played through my home theater system made my heart skip a beat. Last time i experienced that whas when i broke the sound barrier in Extreme G 3.

The song you're thinking of is from episode 13 (can't remember the title off hand). It's called "Space Lion". "Ballad of Fallen Angels" was the fifth episode.
