TalkBack / RE:Koji Igarashi on Castlevania
« on: October 25, 2007, 05:25:18 PM »
So if you read between the lines he is saying the next DS Castlevania game will be 3d.

Point 1, he says it will not follow the anime influence of the Previous 2 DS games,
Point 2 he says he would like to do 3d, something like Metroid...

I dont see a way for the game to be in 2d and not have some sort of anime influence.  The only thing that would break the continuity of the anime would be 3d polygons.

Ick.

I hope Im wrong.  otherwise I will have to buy a PSP and get the new castlevanias for it.

Candles being souls is a cool idea though.

Well I gotta give my props to Splatterhouse.  It was one of the 5 games I ever bought for TG 16.  I love it, it is dark moody and actually spooky the first time around when the enemies *surprise* you.  I find it to be a difficult game past level 5 or so as well, maybe I just suck at games...but the chainsaw guy the rotating mask boss, and even the clones of yourself are pretty hard to beat. I only wish they had allowed us to have the jason mask white like in the japenese version.  I actually want to buy the arcade standup version of this game but the VC title will have to do for now!

Now am I correct in understanding that te only thing that prevents us from downloading other regions Virtual console games is the region of the unit itself? Does this mean that if I buy a second Wii from japan then I can download Neo Geo games? Or would I not be able to use my credit card to buy points off of it?

Also does anyone think that they will release Super Metroid for SNES?  That was a truly great game.

ANd another thing....off topic....Im tired of people complaining about the price of the Virtual Console games, saying that they are cheaper to buy the real thing....

Taken today from ebay....A copy of the much complained about Mario Kart 64 goes for between $20.00 for just a cartridge and $60.00 new in the box.  A Wii download is only $10.00.  Oh and I didnt even mention the shipping price

Even Super Mario World which is cheap due to its immense availibility goes for about $2.99 plus $5.00 shipping, which is the same price as the virtual console release.

Oh and "New adventure island?" for TG-16?  I didn't look up its price on ebay today, but it is so hard to find an american copy I have personally paid $60.00 for a copy and $45 for another copy (after I lost the first one)  so did I complain about having to pay $6.00 to download it now?  I. DONT. THINK. SO.

Vigilante actually plays almost exactly like "Kung-Fu" from the arcade and the NES.  It has an insanely hard difficulty level for something with such easy to learn controls.  The addition of the "Nunchuck" is really the only thing that seperates this from "Kung-Fu" it deserves a better rating than Not reccommended.  It is pretty fun, especially if you grew up with Kung Fu in the arcade.  i just hope that Turbografx releases some more fighters like Splatterhouse!

For me it was the absence of item collecting.  I could have lived with everything else, but I like stockpiling weapons.  I am a "collector" I collect video games I might not ever even play ant I collect items, (as long as they DO something) like weapons.  I love the castlevania series on gba/sp because of this btw.

You are entitled to your opinion KDR, but all im saying is after 10 mins of play it made me wish I had a copy of link to the past.  And now I do, and I can sell my fsa for $3.50 to the used cd store.

Well count me as a sad lonely loser, I only have my wife and daughter but no friends.  Friends get remarkably harder to make as you get older so beware of that comment a little later on in your own life.  I did play it in single player mode, and as you stated, I believe we can both agree that single player mode was pretty terrible. Also I don't usually like multiplayer.  I am more of a classic game collector.  I actually bought my Wii for the virtual console content.  Yes, I did buy the new zelda, but now that link to the past is out I may never play it again.  Also, mad props to nintendo for doing the Wii compliation for all the Metal Slugs.  I love that game.

Four Swords Adventures was more like a game starring link, than an actual Zelda game.  It was also pretty terrible if you ask me.  I went and got that game with the greatest of anticipation (I am a fan of 2d games on next gen consoles with really purty graphics) but the fact that you cant keep weapons in between "adventures" ruins it for me.  I love leveling link up with all his goodies and being a bad ass as he storms thru Hyrule.  I think the moderator forgot FSA because it was , well, forgetable.  And where is Comix Zone anyway?  I love that game and was going to download it today.

It was hailed as the best shooter for dreamcast, even better than Ikaruga so I am definately going to pick it up.  I love the graphical style!  And the fact that I can pop this badboy in my Wii just makes it all the sweeter!

Oh I forgot to say, to the other guy....  R type for turbografx, is near impossible.  I cant beat the first stinkin level.  Its fun, its pretty, but darn is it hard.  Get RTYPE 3 for snes if you want to have a prayer for survival.

As a semi casual shooter fan myself ( i like em but i dont invest enough time in them to get good at them and beat them without infinite continues)  I can wholeheartedly reccomend r type 3 for snes.  I played back on my original snes before I even knew what a schmup was.  Its great fun, great graphics, and seeing all the mode 7 "super cool" graphics mode stuff on the snes is really a treat now.  Its so nostalgic.  It does have a lot of slowdown in some spots, but trust me, thats not a bad thing, the action gets so frantic the slowdown can actually help you survive.

Xevious really and truly sucks tho.  Avoid like the plague.  Galaga was a 10 times better shooter than Xevious and it will surely come out soon on VC.  (If Galaga 90 for turbografx 16 comes out pick that one up)!

And Moto Racer is an illconcieved top down racer.  Wait for the release of Super RC Pro am or something similar.

WHOO HOO my wii is out of the shop, gradius and soldier blade here I come!  Dungeon explorer can still kiss my a$$ tho.  For those that have ben following my plight, Nintendo did NOT put the virtual console games back on the new console they gave me, but they did give me free redownloads of the same games.  My wii appears to be fixed.

Also side note:  I have to get one of these skins for my wii.... check it

Yea I was the one with the VC problem, and I wont know for sure how it turned out until I get it back.   I do know that they repaired my existing Wii instead of replacing it so maybe my games will be intact.

I will be sending my system off tomorrow, and (3 weeks later) when I get it back I will let you guys know how it went.  If they really do gyp me I would love to have something as powerful as N.W.R. to spread the PR on.  And dont get me wrong, im not getting down on nintendo, i still love my wii, its just very disheartening since its so new.

Heres a sad story (for me.)  I have now bought $110.00 worth of virtual console games.  What can I say, I love em.  I bought my wii for this.  Anything else is a bonus to me.  Super castlevania IV and rtype are among my favorite games, but of course I had to get mario as well.  In playing mario I noticed some strange white static in between levels.  "How sloppy!"  I said, that they would release a shoddy port of such a main title.  Of course come to find out when I went to zelda, and wii sports, the dots were there too.  Except 10 fold.  The graphics were completely screwed.  The wii was broken.  1 month and 6 days old.  Now I have to mail to nintendo to get repaired, and they are going to make me pay to redownload my $110.00 worth of virtual console games because they cant be copied to the new system they are going to give me.  Kinda makes even the diehard VC fans like me think twice before paying big bucks.

Off the top of my head I think I've spent... just about $100 on the VC. So don't feel like you're all alone on that one.

But Tony, call Nintendo and tell them your situation. Nintendo has gone ahead and said that they'd help Wii Owners who are in situations like yours, and if their Customer Service is as good as all of us believe it to be, they should work with you so that you don't have to pay an additional $110. Otherwise, this is a very big black mark on their record and will cause internet uproar.

Tell Nintendo this, because you are ENTITLED to those VC games that you already paid for despite your broken Wii.

UMM guys I hate to tell you this but is 2 different people at nintendo that says their policy is to not refund or replace VC games if the console is non repairable.  They wont even give you free wii points.  They asked their "manager" already and he said no.

ALso: Re Castlevania IV for SNES.  You cant beat it in "30 hrs" or so unless you are insanely good at it.  It is a linear game like mario 1 and as such must be completely mastered to be beaten at all.  levels 5upwards feature some extremely intense platforming elements and chances are you will fall in holes and croak so many times (and have to start all the way over at the beginning of the game) that the replay value will be quite high.  I find some of the bosses in castlevania IV to be the best in the franchise.  Also the mode 7 visuals are pretty neat, even today.  It makes you remember why your eyes lit up with joy everytime you put in a snes upgrade to your favorite nes games.  It is as much an improvement over original nes castlevania as mario world for snes was to original mario for nes.

BTW Streetfighter sucks.

Play Fatal Fury Special 2 or King of Fighters 99 or Samurai Shodown IV or V.  Those have good skill/strategy/button mashing/super power balance.  You can do one or all to win, but a good balance is best.
