Lifespeed for the 3DS. The game looks great and runs super smooth, but the game just lacks an IT factor that made me want to keep going back. Ran through story mode and a championship series or two and was done with it.

Welcome to TNP episode 20! Perry has officially handed the Capcom torch to Casey as he fired up his NES Classic to subject himself to Ghost n Goblins. He didn’t make it very far, but did he enjoy what he played or did it just cause him to have an aneurysm? Perry having been relieved of his Capcom duties gets to finally enjoy something other than Firebrand, his game of choice? Mario Party Star Rush for the 3DS! He’s gotten to play some extensive co-op party action, but how does it stack up to previous installments in the series? After seeing Lifespeed in the eShop Round Up last week, Casey knew he had to give this futuristic racer a go. It had some interesting mechanics, but ultimately left much to be desired. Rounding out What We’ve Been Playing is … Craiglist Round up? You better believe it because you’re not going to believe what Perry found. Some might call it the find of a lifetime!

Nintendo was kind to the boys and dropped the big News stories before recording this week! We go over Zelda Breath of the Wild themes coming to the 3DS and of course the Season Pass. Oh, and how about that Splatoon 2 Testfire! And a Miyamoto Quality of Life Cat Hammock? The boys wrap up the show with Developer Dive. This is a new segment where the guys look back at the history of a developer, the games they’ve made and talk about their personal experiences with the company. To kick off the series, Casey and Perry started off with Intelligent System, the makers of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and Paper Mario.

All the more reason for me to pick up the first. Been meaning to get around to it, but this means I'll have to jump on board soon :p. Glad it did well enough to warrant localizing the second.

Pokken Tournament has sold more than Street Fighter V at retail....

I was super shocked to hear this. Pretty amazing news. I wonder if this could possibly lead to some DLC to bolster the roster. I know I'd throw down for that.

Callie and Marie are amazing, but those Inkling re-colors feel fairly pointless. I would've preferred to get amiibo of Cap'n Cuttlefish, Spike, the Octolings, etc.

Yeah would have been cool to see some other characters show up, but I guess its nice and easy to just change the colors for Nintendo.

Like Evan I'm also playing Mutant Mudds Super Challenge and man what a super fun game. It is a difficult title and you'll die a lot (don't worry it reminds you exactly how many times with the death counter), but I'm still having a lot of fun. Most of the challenge is tough, but fair although the one boss I've encountered so far was the only thing that has really gotten me frustrated so far.

I just wrapped up Conquest yesterday afternoon and enjoyed it a fair bit more then I did Birthright. Going to give myself a week or two, time to jump into Hyrule Warriors Legends before coming back to wrap up Revelations. Then I'll likely ping pong between Revelations and Legends and hopefully wrap them both up for the release of Bravely Second.

Also been jamming out on some Pokken Tournament and liking it a lot. I said in another thread, I'm shocked at how much my sister and GF are loving the game despite not being very big into gaming at all. Hopefully I can practice up and play some other forum users! If you do read this and want to battle hit me up! Prob respond quicker on twitter @case_jets.

Phew. I sure am glad I got out of the amiibo game relatively early. II still have a **** ton of them and I enjoy them, but I was getting characters I don't even particularity like that much just for the sake of getting them. Now I'm more selective and try to get amiibo I really love or if I can get 'em on sale.

Been really enjoying Pokken more than I thought I would. Was on the fence, but with some amazon gift cards I figured for $25 I couldn't go wrong. What's most surprising is how much my girlfriend and sister loved playing too (GF not a gamer and sister a light gamer).

I feel like its pretty accessible for anyone, but has a level of depth with combos that could get you to sink some serious time and strategy into it. I'm hoping it sells well and we can see some DLC because the roster is a little light and with so many pokemon to choose from I think could add even more diversity into the game.

Although I don't think we'll be seeing any DLC, but if we did what would you guys like to see added? I'd love to see Alakazam =D.

Gotta love the Virtual Boy, I bought one off ebay when I was in HS which was probably around 2005. I pop it out every once in a while to play for a bit. Last time I did my dad ended up playing Golf for like an hour and was loving everything about it :P.

I know you're a collector, how many games do you have?

I've got: Galactice Pinball, Golf, Mario Clash, Mario's Tennis, Panic Bomber, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, Vertical Force and Wario Land.

Hey everyone, been playing a few games. SMT Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker and Rhythm Heaven. Both first games I've played in their respective series.

I'm really enjoying Devil Survivor 2, put about 22 hours into it so far and enjoying the gameplay and the story. Although there are times when it can get frustrating because you just get dominated and have to restart a level. Its has the famous demons and fusing systems in the game, but this time you summon them through your cell phone. The 3D is pretty much useless because the top screen is mostly just stats for the demons and the action takes place on the touch screen, yet ironically enough you can't use the stylus to navigate the map during battles. The sound track is pretty great and the voice acting isn't bad, but the overall volume of the game seems to be a little low to me. Overall though, I'm really enjoying it.

After hearing a lot of talk about the new Rhythm Heaven game, I decided it was time for me to pony up and get the original for the DS. This game is so whacky and fun I absoutely adore it. I haven't gotten to far, just wrapped up the third remix and looking forward to getting more time into it this weekend. My favorite game so far is BlueBirds, that little duck giving the commands with the voice is so great.

Podcast Discussion / Re: RFN RetroActive (Jr.) #33: Blaster Master
« on: July 30, 2015, 12:24:48 AM »
Downloaded on my 3DS the other day and got to playing it for a little while. I had previously thought I had never played this, but turns out after watching the amazing opening cut scene that I have played this back in the day with my friend. Thought I didn't really remember any of the gameplay aside from there being a tank and that opening scene.

So after jumping down the hole you are thrown into a tank and set on your way. My first thoughts were how the controls are pretty floaty, much more than I thought they'd be. The tank has some momentum after you stop moving in one direction which takes some getting used to. I don't love it, but after playing I got the hang of platforming and dealing with enemies.

What's interesting is when your in the tank its a 2D platformer and your tank has some weapons to deal with enemies, but you can jump out of the tank and control Jason, the protagonist of the game. By jumping out of the tank you can deal with smaller enemies that your tank can't shoot (because it goes over their heads) and thought this was a pretty cool wrinkle in the gameplay, it does get annoying jumping in and out of the tank constantly, especially god forbid you jump down a ledge and just get owned by fall damage.

Jason can also enter doors that your tank can't get through and when you do the game turns into a top down shooter. These are where you find upgrades to your gun and ultimately these are where the bosses are located. Navigating these rooms are far easier then dealing with some of the enemies in the tank. I thought the mix of the two styles of gameplay kept the game fresh and fun so you weren't too burnt out of just platforming.

The enemies and bosses (beat the first three of four bosses) are pretty fun and challenging. With upgraded gun the bosses become much easier, but losing life also knocks down your firepower. The worst part of the game is the noticeable slow down when multiple enemies are on screen and this tends to happen quite a bit if you avoid the smaller enemies that require you to pop out of the tank. Also with the most upgraded gun while fighting a boss a lot is going on that causes quiet a bit of slow down as well.

For a game that came out in 1988 I really enjoyed the non linear style of play. While the game does have different areas that you'll progress through, theres a good amount of exploring to do and from what I've read there will be times when you have to go back to previous areas to advance further into the game. The music is also a great pleasure to listen to, I'm still amazed at how much they were able to do with so little back in NES era.

Overall I've enjoyed my time with Blaster Master thus far and hope to continue playing when I have time (altho tough when playing Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker and I just picked up Rhythm Heaven). The gameplay is fun and challenging and sure it has its flaws such as the slow down and some annoying enemies, but every game has its problems. I'd recommend for the $4.99 to check it out if your a fan of retro games or just want to experience a bit of gaming history.

I'm guessing 9.7

Well the obvious choice might be smash for both, but watching the tree house for Bayonetta 2, I think it snuck ahead for my game of e3 (altho every game shown for Nintendo looked great). I'm really excited about Steam for 3ds. Overall a great showing for Nintendo :).
