Grasshopper behind Decision to Tone-down European No More Heroes
« on: December 12, 2007, 06:00:30 AM »
Suda 51 notes the "broadly growing Wii market" in choosing to deliver the bloodless Japanese version of the Wii exclusive to PAL territories.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14974

The developers behind the forthcoming Wii exclusive No More Heroes have declared that it was their decision to present the game to European audiences in a form significantly toned-down from its planned North American release.

Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda and Marvelous Digital Contents Company president Yashiro Wada issued the following joint statement: "The sales point of the game is action. Both I and Wada san have concentrated on making the best possible action game for the Nintendo Wii. We have chosen to release in Europe the same version as has shipped in Japan considering the broadly growing Wii market."

Though the statement specifies No More Heroes’ European release, it is likely that the game will appear in the same form across all PAL territories where the game will be published by Rising Star Games and its distribution partners.

Asked by Games Radar (prior to Suda’s statement) if the decision to go with the Japanese cut was influenced by the difficulties experienced by Manhunt 2 in being classified by the BBFC, Rising Star answered “maybe." It therefore appears possible that Goichi Suda (widely known as Suda 51), having promised to attempt to make No More Heroes more violent than Rockstar’s aforementioned horror sequel, has continued to use Manhunt 2 as a benchmark for tuning his game’s content - notwithstanding significant stylistic differences – for different regional audiences.

It's impressive that you hate Suda so much you just can't stop talking about him or posting in topics about him.

NMH more violent than Manhunt 2? I'm not sure Suda understands what part of Manhunt people find so abhorrent, NMH looks more like Kill Bill in that it just has large amounts of blood and dismembering, Manhunt was hated for its realistic depictions of torture and brutal murder (not just a quick shot or slash). If Travis was a sadist that disemboweled his still living victims and then strangled them with their own intestines, maybe that would qualify but that's seriously not something you can censor by replacing the blood effects.

Hey Suda, why not go the whole way and make it No More Probotector?

I want no more boobies!

And i mean, lots of them in the game, but covered over with faintly transparent (and carefully positioned!) black boxes. They should be smaller than the item in question it's covering too.

I recall watching a recent video on IGN (insider) and Travis clearly said "Fvck Heads", or at least that's what I think he said. Also, I just watched the intro that's on gametrailers, he's says sh!t, twice I think. I don't know if that's enough swearing or not for you though.

Swearing isn't bad at all anymore. Hell, on comedy central and spike, after 9 p.m. your allowed to say everything except f*ck.

I got this idea from the fact that the GDC trailer had no swearing in it and the trailer Suda showed at GO3 a month or so later in Australia was exactly the same yet featured a lot of swearing. The swearing made the acting seem way less corny, they were actually mad now, not just sounding ridiculous.

I like Rising Star, they sent me a free copy of Rainbow Islands Revolution because I was the only person to buy Bubble Bobble Revolution. I also like Grasshopper. And Marieo Cart. And.

Euro version wasn't broken (gameplay was still rubbish, but you could complete it!) only the American version had that crippling bug. ='D Especially impressive considering the American version came out seven months after the Euro release!

Maybe the American version will have more Steve Jay Blum. His voice for "Your fine words and shining armor won't get you anywhere!" seems to have been replaced since the teaser trailers. Same goes for the lady that contracts Travis.
