For the snail heart, tapping the booster lets you cover more distance than holding it.  3 or 4 separate boosts should get you safely onto or on the front edge of that platform, at least that's how I remember it feeling recently.

Friggin X3 Sigma, man, what a pain cuz the hitbox on his head is so damn small!  I picked up X4 PS1 copy recently, tried playing it on PS3 but there was so much input lag that I stopped on the intro stage and haven't picked it back up.  Want to try to find a solution to that, but I don't know if there is one.

Are there any players willing to help me breed a perfect foreign Honedge?

I'd definitely be up for it, but too bad I've got an NA copy.  There's a guy on the gamefaqs forums with a japanese version I'm trying to trade dittos with to breed shinies.  If it comes down to that, let me know and I can give you his username over there.

The third pokemon won't show up for anyone else unless you've beaten the elite four and we are both online at the same time.  You only have to both be online once, then the third slot is always unlocked.

If anyone wants their safari checked, post up and I'll check it for you.

Couldn't find a thread on this, and I suppose it's a variant of the 3DS friend code thread, but share your safari type and pokemon here!

I'm upset that I never thought to name my pokemon after Toho monsters.  Such a good, simple idea!

Can NWR just coin and retire the word "obtuse" in the gaming context and move on from it?  EVERY game has something that's obtuse to you guys.

Having only played the first two sonic games, the level design in the second halves of the games has still left a terrible taste in my mouth.  After having Genesis and the Sonics earlier in life, I went back during high school and beat Sonic 2, making me realize how much I actually dislike Sonic.  It's like the designers forgot what their game was about halfway through.

That said, I still kind of hope this makes it here just to go back and see what it's like to replay the first nowadays.

TalkBack / Re: Hacker Reveals Wii U CPU Clock Details

It's a triple core processor, so if things are coded for it well, it seems like it should be more than sufficient.  Boiling a video game down to its numbered rating is about as accurate as boiling down a processor to its clock speed.

Where's Lindemann?  I hear he actually plays his games now and has left us all to suffer in the wake of his spreading epidemic.

Backlog:

Red Dead Redemption
FFXIII
Fable III
Xenoblade
Bit.Trip Runner
Limbo
Dear Esther (stupid steam sales, I don't even know anything about this game)

Handful of other games to finish like Kingdoms of Amalur, Metroid: Other M (post credits section), Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Pushmo, Radiant Historia, I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting.  Currently playing through Radiant Historia.

Well, there's a kind of sort of not-really related clone called demolition inc. for pc.  It's not really a clone but the basic idea is just to blow **** up in clever ways, which I'd love to see a game of right now.  Just a game with a collection of levels that introduce different mechanics for blowing things up.  It'd be pretty fun, especially as a mobile game where you'd pick it up for short play sessions, blow up a couple cities or one city a couple different ways, I think it would work well.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising League!?
« on: May 22, 2012, 11:50:31 AM »
I definitely think it should be team based.  That's where I think a lot of the strategy and fun of this game comes from.  1v1 would be good for improving mechanics and practice, but I don't think it should have a part in the league.

Neal: What aspects of that game would you consider arrogant?  I don't disagree with you because I have an incredibly hard time playing that game anymore.  Something like, the game expects the player to actually play through it and have fun with it for how not-interestingly difficult it is?

14
Sounded more like he was calling Pit almost arrogant, as opposed to the game.  Weird to say that he would have called a game arrogant.

Definitely agree with the camera controls though.  I find it's much easier to play if I rest the bottom right corner of the 3ds on my knee when I'm sitting down.  Hard to find a good way to play it otherwise for me.

Def up for this.  Second place sting left in mouth, lol.

Definitely up for this.  PAX East tourney was too fun, mostly for talking with everyone there, but playing from afar will be great fun.  Have a score that needs settling at some point...  PANDARADOX

Yea, definitely play a female character because the male voice actor just doesn't cut it compared to Jennifer Hale.  There were times where I just couldn't take him seriously and it kind of ruined part of the role-playing part of the game for me.  An adept based class is definitely the way to go for the first game because the engineering skills are basically just mines that have different effects, but they don't feel super fun or anything.  Way better to lift and throw everyone around.

If you continue on to Mass Effect 2, they actually make the engineering skills/classes a lot more fun.  I enjoyed my infiltrator character just as much as my vanguard.  More options you can actually have different kinds of combat fun with.  Inventory problems were also basically removed completely in the second game.  Combat felt a lot smoother also, but I played both on PC, so I wasn't too frustrated to begin with.

Quick question for those that have this game: you can play 007 classic mode to play with health packs and body armor in the single player, but is there a multiplayer mode to play that way with regular health instead of regenerating?

That UK one is great cuz it reminds me of all the action figure commercials from the 80's and early 90's.

Was anybody able to actually redeem this yet?  Or are other people running into the same errors with the website not recognizing your status when you try to redeem the figurine?

GO FLYERS!!! And I love the attempt to evade the jinxing gods, apparently it worked.  Boucher's been playing well, but the loss of Carter and Gagne is gonna hurt, and hopefully Laperriere is fine.  Laminar blood flow coming out of the face is never good.

Caps are gonna be tough, but I thought we played the Pens pretty tight the last two years.  We got some great potential, real potent offense, we just needed to improve on defense, which certainly looks like we have already in the post-season.  Penalty killing's been great too.  Kovalchuk is no Ovechkin, but we did well shutting him down thoroughly.  Let's hope the Habs force a game 6 tonight.

Good to see some hockey fans on here; hockey's gotta have the best post-season of any sport out there.

Right but in the image the portals don't only go from one place in space to another, but also from the time of the first game to the jungle time of the second.  The left goes from first-game time to jungle time, and the second goes the opposite.  Not typical 88mph, 1.21 gigawatt time travelling, but portals from one point in time directly to another and back.

I'd have to second Pikmin, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Metroid Prime, and Wind Waker as essentials on GC.

Tangent: And even though Pikmin 2 improved on Pikmin, I didn't care that much for the dungeon-crawling grottos after a while and I didn't even finish the game.  Keeping the game above ground kept it more enjoyable imo, and kept the pikmin feel to it rather than the impending sense of doom I got after each time I descended and saw this wasn't the last level.  It felt like it became more about the dungeons than exploration later in the game.

Anyhow, I think PoP is a must, and Wind Waker is great if you're familiar with Zelda (maybe play OoT first), Pikmin also because it's a unique kind of game, and Prime is great (but don't be surprised if you play it, then put it down for a year or so and then come back to finish it.  Great game, but that happened with others too and it happened to me with both Prime 1 and 2.  Worth pushing through/coming back to if that happens).

Anyone else think the link that Reggie posted could look like Wind Waker's re-surfaced Hyrule?  Are they concept art or is that the style of the game?

I got excited when I saw this thread and the enthusiasm for actually setting up weekly times to play, until I saw the 4th page here.  Sounds like the demo turned people off of this idea?  Any club-related, demo-informed input from el senor chairman?

I played the demo about a week ago, took down the T-Rex guy just fine but still haven't beaten the goiter-ized avian necromancer.  Could see how multiplayer would be better, it's tough to chase down a monster when he's limping and can just fly away.  I didn't hate it though, thought balancing the timing of the dodging & attacking/item management felt old-school in a good way.  Would be better with 2.5 times the time limit and 4 times the players.  Was playing on a 4:3 TV without 480p, so I didn't see the graphical hitch in its giddy-up others of you saw.  Is it really that terrible looking?
