Upgrading SD cards for 3DS
« on: October 11, 2013, 02:08:59 AM »
Every time I try to do anything requiring tech I constantly mess it up. I need so much help it's not even funny. I followed these steps and I just have no idea where I go wrong.

For your new SD Card:

1. Go to SDCard.org and download and install the SD Card Formatter there. (Accept the terms and conditions on the bottom page to begin download.)
2. Insert your new SD Card into the SD Card slot. Run the SDCard Formatter.
3. Click on the Options and select "Full Format"
4. After your new SD Card has been formatted, remove the new SD card, power down your 3DS, remove the old SD card from in and insert it into your computer.
5. Cut and paste the entire contents of your SD card on to an empty folder on your hard drive.
6. Swap out to the newer SD card and paste the contents of the folder to the root directory of your SD card.
7. Insert this new SD card into your 3DS and power on.

The only thing I don't get really is the "root directory" but I can't imagine when I past the info into the SD card im doing it wrong.

I put the new data in and my 3DS doesn't have anything on it. The machine recognizes the card and does something to it, but it does't see the content with all my games and downloads. I need help please.

I don't know why we need all that formatting and special tools.

When i changed SD cards i unwrapped new bigger SD card, copied all data from old card to new one, put it in and it worked.

Thats the site Nintendo recommends for formatting and man everyone has such an easy time doing this but me, I must be doing something super wrong. It's so frustrating.

How did you copy it? I have it all in one folder, inside it it's like 3 folders. But I just drag it into the appropriate spot and it take a while. But once it's in my DS then nothing.

Open the folder with the copy of your data. The one with three folders.

Open SD Card from "My Computer".

Drag'n'drop three folders onto SD Card.

Well I figured it out. There was extra file within my card from my system transfer and it was messing things up. It took my brother to recognize it and now all is well in the world.
