Bit.Trip Fate Revealed
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:57:06 AM »

The next Bit.Trip game has a name and we know a few other bits of info.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/23880

Tucked away in Nintendo's recent release date press release was the official name for Gaijin Games' next Bit.Trip game, which is Bit.Trip Fate.

The development team recently teased the name of the title on their Facebook page, revealing that it was Bit.Trip F_ _ _.

Gaijin's Alex Neuse also gave another hint on their Facebook page: "I just got my first legitimate PERFECT in an entire BIT.TRIP level! It was Level 1 of BIT.TRIP F_ _ _! My key to success? The Wii Zapper."

This also follows earlier discussion that labeled the fifth Bit.Trip title as "the Empire Strikes Back of the series." Bit.Trip Fate is the second-to-last game in the series, with only one more game planned after it.

It sounds like the next Bit Trip is a rail shooter, perhaps inspired by the old Atari-era Star Wars game.  How fitting for the Wii.

Interesting theory. The Bit.Trip games have been so intensely timing-orientated, so if you apply that to a rail shooter, I can only imagine there will be a very narrow window of opportunity to shoot every target, probably to the beat of a chiptune.

The Bit.Trip games are also based on rhythm games.  I wouldn't mind seeing a new take on Rez.  ;D
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Considering what I've seen of Child of Eden, I think you're onto something with that.

More stuff for Greg to talk about on a future episode of RFN perhaps?
This is where I would write something witty or funny if I had any ideas.

UPDATE:

Now that the Penny Arcade Expo is in full swing, there is confirmation of what Bit.Trip Fate actually is. Turns out it will be a bullet storm side-scrolling shoot 'em up with Commander Video acting as the "ship".

Trailer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb9TI0iwcPQ&feature

From the looks of it, Commander Video is attached to a rail, but the player has full control of how he moves along this rail. I couldn't really work out how the combos and the rhythm of the music would play into it, like they do in Bit.Trip 1-4.
