NES Classic To Re-Release June 29
« on: May 13, 2018, 02:14:58 PM »

With availability for far longer.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/47217/nes-classic-to-re-release-june-29

Nintendo promised a restock of the NES Classic in 2018, and they are delivering.

The first of the Classic Mini series of systems will return to stores on June 29, after being originally shelved in April of last year. Both it and the SNES Classic are expected to be in regular supply through the end of the year at minimum.

All of the 30 original games from the first printing will return, unlike Japan who have substituted most of the games on the Famicom Classic reissue for games to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Shonen Jump magazine.

Apparently, the Shonen Jump Famicom Mini was just a special edition that will release July 7th. They announced restockings of the regular Famicom Mini that will start June 28th. I haven't heard of any game lineup changes for that.

I think that I'm excited?
Not entirely sure... but probably?

If I can get a wireless receiver for my 8bitdo N30 Pro controller, and still hack in a bunch of different games, then this should be a go for me.

After I ended up enjoying the SNES Classic more than I thought, I had considered getting this when it restocked. But now seeing NES games as part of the Switch online service, I'll probably just stick with that.

Wonder is these will be as easy to mod as the first production run

Considering that the info was quite prevalent about how easy the NES Mini was to mod on the first run, Nintendo could have made changes with the SNES Mini to try and prevent easy modding or at least require a different method to mod it. Yet, they didn't seem to care and modding the SNES Mini was pretty much the same and as easy as the NES Mini. Therefore, I doubt they are going to take the time to go back and try to change up how the NES Mini works to make it harder to mod at this point. Most likely, they're just spending money on another production run instead of redesigning it since there are already a few million of these in the market and its just about reaching some of the other consumers who had an interest in it but weren't able to acquire it in the first go around. From a business profit standpoint, I don't think they want to put more money into this second round of production than they have to especially since they might still be unsure how much of the market will want it after the larger SNES Mini run seemed to satisfy the majority looking for it.

I'm sure this is true, but as a single data point I've never seen either system in person (at stores or through friends/family) and every second-hand copy I've seen has been marked up at least $50 - usually more.

I have seen several counterfeit copies that friends purchased because they couldn't get the real things - although feedback about the quality of those units has been consistently poor, with people saying that emulators on a Raspberry Pi would be better.

The big question for me is whether to get a NES or SNES unit. NES has more nostalgia for me, but likely includes fewer games that I will actually want to play. Very unlikely that I need both.

I'd be a lot more interested in this if they were also increasing the cord length on the NES Classics controller to match the SNES Classic's.

Are you going to play it or display it?

Play: SNES
Display: NES

8bitdo’s wireless SN30 controllers are excellent and reasonably priced at $25. I know it’s an extra expense, but the future is now. It’s difficult to go back to being tethered to a console.

That surprises me. A couple months ago in late February or early March, I was looking for a copy of Lady Layton 3DS. I had a feeling the game might have a limited run and copies were suddenly no longer available with online retailers so I headed out to check some stores and see if there was a copy on their shelf still before it became to hard to find physically. When I stopped in at Wal-Mart and Toys R' Us I saw they had a bunch of the SNES classics in stock. I took it as proof that Nintendo did commit to making sure the supply would be met after all and now stores had this extra stock that wasn't selling. I guess I can check and see if they're still around in these stores but I thought demand had petered out by the evidence of this stock not being sold out right away.

I somehow was able to snag an NES classic on the original run, but was only able to get a 3rd party controller that was kind of garbage.  Was hoping they'd also announce they were doing another loose controller production run.

Chat friends, are the 8bitdo controllers legit?  I rarely can find controllers that actually feel good.

Yes, 8bitdo controllers are legit. The ones for the SNES Classic feel exactly like first party ones except, you know, wireless.

The controllers from the SNES Classic work with this, right? If so, I'd use those.
