With availability for far longer.

Nintendo promised a restock of the NES Classic in 2018, and they are delivering.
The first of the Classic Mini series of systems will return to stores on June 29, after being originally shelved in April of last year. Both it and the SNES Classic are expected to be in regular supply through the end of the year at minimum.
All of the 30 original games from the first printing will return, unlike Japan who have substituted most of the games on the Famicom Classic reissue for games to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Shonen Jump magazine.

... the larger SNES Mini run seemed to satisfy the majority looking for it.
The big question for me is whether to get a NES or SNES unit. NES has more nostalgia for me, but likely includes fewer games that I will actually want to play. Very unlikely that I need both. Are you going to play it or display it?
I'd be a lot more interested in this if they were also increasing the cord length on the NES Classics controller to match the SNES Classic's.8bitdo’s wireless SN30 controllers are excellent and reasonably priced at $25. I know it’s an extra expense, but the future is now. It’s difficult to go back to being tethered to a console.
I'm sure this is true, but as a single data point I've never seen either system in person (at stores or through friends/family) and every second-hand copy I've seen has been marked up at least $50 - usually more.
Chat friends, are the 8bitdo controllers legit? I rarely can find controllers that actually feel good.Yes, 8bitdo controllers are legit. The ones for the SNES Classic feel exactly like first party ones except, you know, wireless.
