Nintendo Gaming / Re: Nintendo Switch Forum Favorites

Alright, not a lot of love for Sega games, but how about...

What are your favorite platformers on Switch?

Thanks to insanolord for the suggestion!

I played Hollow Knight on Switch, so there's that.  Won't elaborate since it's widely lauded and known.

Nine Sols is the metroidvania/Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice cross-over I didn't know I needed.  Rivals Hollow Knight in quality IMO.

Sonic Mania is a special game to me, and I'm glad they at least did one go-around of classic sonic gameplay.  Beautiful reimagining of some classic levels too.

Pepper Grinder is a pretty fun if short time, but I didn't feel like I needed more once the credits hit.

I know The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa got some buzz, but the same independent dev's Fading Afternoon felt like a big jump in their beat-em-up system with its refinements coupled with what is a life management sim of a character slowly losing time from terminal illness.  It's a high pressure experience that felt like his most complete work.

Disney's Illusion Island is one of the most approachable 2D platformers in the metroidvania style and a lot of fun to play with family & friends.  Lots of features to make the game easier for individual players too.

Okinawa Rush is a bit unweildy but the arcade 2D brawler is such a cool experience, and the kung fu movie sensibility is a lot of fun.

Nintendo Gaming / Any idea?

When you buy a Wii game on the eShop, it downloads to the Wii U memory. But does it also save there, or does it save to the Wii Mode memory like a disc-based Wii game would? I'm asking because I want to be able to move my save games to the SD card so I can continue a Skyward Sword game on a Wii after starting it on my Wii U with the eShop version.

Yes!

It's a long story (the two videos tell it best), but we successfully got the full 16 player mode working after much work.

I understand the desire to compare Switch 2 to Wii U, but I think the much better comparison in this case would be Switch 2 to 3DS. A largely iterative follow-up to extremely successful hardware where the biggest issue early on seems to be a higher than expected price.

I see your point and you're not the first one to mention this.  You're right in that direct 1-1 compare/contrast, but I think there's enough value in seeing it from the console perspective because of how same, but different they are and how that might affect their level of success this go-around.

This is just a well written piece. Enjoyable to read your prose, a well articulated reflection on Nintendo's changing and unchanging approach to sequels. Thanks!

I appreciate it  :D

The ability to pick which worm to use at the start of the match has been dropped.  This feature is really critical.  It can mean the difference between a close match and getting completely creamed due to a bad starting location.  There was no reason not to include this standard Worms feature.  It's been in every other version.  Cycling through all your worms also gives you a quick close up look at your situation.  Now you have to scroll around with the d-pad, or settle for the mini-map view as to who's in the most danger (not that there's much you can do about it since you can't pick your worm).
Was this possible in the first Open Warfare game?

How is the single card local multiplayer unreliable? (where was this opined before?)
Was is it also unreliable in the first game? I wonder why the first game had 4-player single-card option, and this game only 2-players (and 4-players with multi-cards)

I saw someone playing this and DK's movement options look so fun! The trailer didn't really convey exactly what I saw recently at one of the Nintendo events. Maybe because most of the shots showed DK smashing and bashing but I saw other footage of DK running, jumping and climbing in long strides along with his smashing abilities. It looks so good!

There are other classic characters here too. Cranky and Rambi are confirmed. Naughty's are referenced as fossils and I believe Professor Chops as well. Not to mention the Crocoid skeletons look straight up like DK64 Kremlings in skeletal form. There is a lot of neat little nods that point to even more classic characters appearing including Expresso and K Rool and I just can't wait!

Man I hope Diddy and Dixie can be apart of this gameplay! Dixie is generally viewed as having more raw strength than Diddy because of that amazing hair so I could see this gameplay justified with her in it. Diddy might be a little harder to justify but he's always been strong but just not as strong! Ripping smaller chunks from walls and maybe takes a few more hits to smash things might be all that's needed.
Usually the intro should be the most engaging, but it just doesn't do it.
