With the NWR staff still recovering from E3 (all of the Es are for "Exhaustion" apparently) and Jonny away at Bonnaroo fighting Courteney Cox for the title of Bruce Springsteen's no.1 fan, things were looking grim for RFN until the glorious return of the newlywed Jon Lindemann lit our darkest hour. Joined by Radio Trivia host and ex-expat Michael "TYP" Cole, the guys catch-up with some belated reactions to E3, share experiences of pummelling national stereotypes in Punch-Out!!, and much more during a jam-packed New Business.

E3 generated plenty of interesting questions and comments for us to take on in Listener Mail, including the prospect of custom levels for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the impact of Project Natal on the console cycle, and whether The Conduit's bubble has been burst just before its release. The show concludes with the second part of our RetroActive feature on Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, wherein Jon sets aside his culinary suggestions for the controversial sequel to help us look at its development history, the latter stages, and more of your forum comments.

RFN will celebrate its 150th episode next week, so if you have any memories or favourite moments you'd like to hear discussed during the show, let us know now!     Credits:

Yay!  My suggestion got picked this week, along with a whole bunch of other cool picks!
 ;D

Great show guys.  I always enjoy hearing the old-school tunes, especially when I recognize them, and listening to you chat about games in between songs is a blast.

I agree with TYP about this being the best version ever, although the answer to the question was probably the worst ever... lol.  Good timing for the episode though, since the game recently had a front-page article on CNN celebrating it's anniversary.

As Jonny's said before, 150 won't be some three hour double episode extravaganza like 100, but I've been working on an idea that hopefully will make for a very fun look back at our RFN history.

All your talk about Punch Out makes me want to go get it. The same thing happened with Geometry Wars Galaxies and Wario Land Shake It and I loved those games. I just have other games I want more than Punch Out right now.

Get it.  It's really good.  The motion controls work really well for it.

When did I say that?  I don't remember saying that at all.  I remember on one of our podcasts I said that the punching feels really satisfying when you really cream an opponent.

IGN's Nintendo Podcast said they where bad I know. I would rather play with the 1 and 2 buttons myself...

Not you specifically, but I got the impression that most of you all on the 'cast were not satisfied with them. I think you were referring to using them in place of NES style for playing the hard tournaments.

I haven't listened to any IGN 'casts since my computer died so I can't have mixed it up. Maybe I just heard James make a crack about it and assumed he was knocking it. I actually do remember you saying that it was satisfying now. Someone on the 'cast didn't like them, though.

I played catchup on episode 147-150 over the course of two graveyard hour shifts when I got my iPod working on another computer so something may have gotten scrammbled in my memory of it all.

For my part, I said that I tried the motion controls for a short while, and from that experience they seemed to work well. I then went on to explain that my personal preference was to stick with the NES controls primarily because they're what I'm used to when playing Punch-Out!!, and I felt that they could get tiring for me if playing for an extended period when getting beaten repeatedly by the harder opponents.

So to be clear, that's not to say I don't like the motion controls, rather the NES controls just suit me better. Also, being the editor of the show, I can say with pretty good authority that I don't think anyone has said anything directly disparaging about the motion controls, so Stratos you have likely been under the wrong impression somehow. What's important here is that Punch-Out!! is an outstanding game, and if the basic gameplay appeals to you, you should find the Wii version very satisfying indeed.

I think I read people's preference as one being good and the other being bad. Sorry for the confusion.

That's me! ;D

If I write in to the 'cast then I'd better hope you don't read my letter. I'll get grilled for spreading nonsense, lies and misinformation.
