All the games look good this time around, so it's really tough to vote.

I really am interested to play Orge Battle, but don't know if I have enough time for another SRPG title (still working through Fire Emblem on the GBA).

Super Mario RPG would be full of win because I never finished that game back in the day, but I'm also trying to get through an old GameCube RPG right now and don't have time for both.

In the end I voted for Mystical Ninja because it's fast and silly, and has decent two-player options.  Not the best game on the list, but I think there could be some decent discussion around it.

Regardless of what game gets picked, I think I'll try to actually play along and discuss this time.

Oh, and for the record I voted Bonk last time.  Probably the most underrated system mascot ever!  Ninja Spirit didn't appeal to me at all...  ;)

Mystical Ninja I do have already but got frustrated with it and never finished it. I wouldn't mind returning as I can't remember what made me quit and never return. Having said that I'm reluctant to vote for it as I'd rather waste my own time finding out what annoyed me rather than vote that people shell out money on a game that frustrated me to the point of no return!

I feel as though this is going to be a 3 way contest between SMRPG, SMW and Mystical Ninja, and I think I'm going to vote for SMRPG which I've never played before. Actually can anyone tell me, roughly how long will it take a first timer (though I have played the subsequent Paper Mario games) to complete SMRPG?

Super Mario World is one of my least favourite Mario games but everyone seems to love it so I would be entirely unsurprised if that won it.

I'd say SMRPG takes about 30 hours, give or take for sidequests and exploration. But I don't remember there being all that many sidequeststs....I'm bad at finding sidequests, though.

There aren't very many sidequests, just a few side things you can do here and there but the game is pretty straightforward. 30 hours seems a bit high of an estimation though; the game seems somewhat short to me, even for a Super NES RPG. Though it's been too long since my first play though and the game doesn't have a timer so I've never timed it.

SMW losing isn't the end of the world, since that means SMB3 is more likely to be part of a RetroActive poll.

I just replayed it about a week ago, and I'd be shocked if it took me more than 10-15 hours or so and I did all the sidequests (hell, Culex alone probably took me at least 30 minutes -> an hour to beat, and I had the Lazy Shell armor and everything.  I also went through Bowser's Keep twice to get all the items.).  It's not as long a game as we all remember, though still awesome.

That's a replay though, I think TheYoungerPlumber's quote was for one's first time through. I'd think a first run would be around 20-25 hours depending on whether or not you like to take your time.

I beat it in a week borrowing it from a friend. This was a school week so I had limited time per day to play. I'll say 20-hours tops for doing everything 100% Because I probably got 15 hours tops in those 7 days of playing it to finish the story.

'Course, I also got to the final dungeon of Link to the Past in a very similar time frame as I borrowed that from the same friend the week before or after Mario RPG. So how may hours does it take to finish ALttP?

There's not really an over-world that you can explore.  It's setup a lot like M&L: Partners in Time.  When you complete one area you open up a new one on a selectable map.

It's impossible to get lost, so I don't think playing it for the first time would dramatically increase the time it takes to beat it.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Like I said, it depends on the type of player you are. If you're trying to rush through it then it'd probably be around 15 hours for your first time. If you take your time and enjoy the sights then it would take a lot longer. It also depends on your skill.

Really I hate the question of "How long will this take?" because there are too many variables.

Ok thanks guys, I only asked as my playtime is going to be quite limited in the next month, but thankfully SMRPG doesn't sound too epic as far as RPGs go, especially as I don't tend to overly take my time.

ActRaiser is interesting in that none of its parts by themselves are horribly good but it is the whole package that makes it unique.

SUPER MARIO WORLD

Best game on that list and one that every Mario fan or platformer fan should play. IMO it is THE best 2D Mario game. I think everyone should play the game. I have beat the game 100% many times, but would love a reason to play it again. I think this would also provide for a big discussion here.

I'm praying for DKC2, because it was the second game I ever beat. If it wins I'll definitely break out the SNES and cartridge. DKC2, probably partly due to nostalgia, is one of my top ten games ever.

Actually, I think it would have been interesting to see an all Mario-game poll.  If SMW doesn't win, I'd like to see it up against SMB3, just to see which one would win out. :P

I'll be satisfied regardless of which game wins this poll.  It's a shame that only two runners up will appear in a future poll.

Actraiser rocks, even if it doesn't win you should still play it. I played it for the first time a couple years ago and I was blown away by how unique and interesting it was, especially when you consider its age.
