F-Zero AX Uncovered within GameCube F-Zero GX
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:43:51 AM »

The game you didn't know you already had.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/33515

The Cutting Room Floor, a site dedicated to documenting unused content in games, recently unearthed an entire game hidden in F-Zero GX. Players can use an Action Replay device to input either a NTSC or PAL code and unlock the arcade game F-Zero AX.

The content was a difficult find, as it was hidden for almost a decade. Recent tests have found that the American Action Replay 1.06 considers the code to be invalid and the NTSC unlocked version contains some instances of Japanese text.

F-Zero AX was released in 2003, the same year as GX, and included the option to load content from a player’s GameCube memory card. It featured the usual arcade timed races and exclusive racing tracks.

Here is the NTSC code for North America:
61TA-AXPK-UAV9E
EHJV-6U30-2DTVE
NBCW-U1NV-0JDJG
HK7K-0RFW-FNQ8Y
PF4U-P5D0-862X1

YW2J-AUVE-R79V8
T6UV-03PE-1H26C
R91R-1A6J-ZXN30
1GHM-VQ7W-7HBWW

And for our PAL readers, a somewhat longer code:
Z60V-MZG0-VRAQ2
3DFJ-55T9-J5J7P
NBCW-U1NV-0JDJG
HK7K-0RFW-FNQ8Y

I'm glad to see everyone giving The Cutting Room Floor's F-Zero GX page some love. Never thought anyone would read the page, but I've been happily disproven. I just find it odd that no one else documented the cheat before - it's been out since the end of November 2012. Not long, but still a few months. Anyway, thanks for posting this and any readers going to TCRF, please give the AX article some love! Anyone with knowledge on C and D, should you love F-Zero (GX/AX), there's still stuff hidden in AX. C:

Awesome except I have no idea how I'll find an Action Replay for the Gamecube at this point.  I've only ever played F-Zero AX once as it came out at a time when arcade games were no longer plentiful in North America.

I guess if I ever see a used Cube Action Replay I'll have a reason to buy it.

It's amazing to me that this could go undiscovered for so long. Even if it was found out late last year, that's still 9 years. It makes me want to get an Action Replay now. Well for this, and to unlock The Legend of Zelda in Animal Crossing.

Alternatively, you can enter equivalent codes on a hacked Wii.

Is this a big deal? From my understanding (and some quick searching), you can unlock this content is GX anyways (albeit through difficult matter of beating all the other cups on Master difficulty). So doesnt this just let you bypass the hard work?

I unlocked all the AX stuff by cheating in story mode, so I've already been playing the AX version with GX since 2003 :P

In terms of late unlocks, I'd put this one ahead of the sarcastic announcer in Wave Race Blue Storm, but behind the catchable Mew in Pokemon RBY glitch.

I think you're missing something - this isn't just "stuff from F-Zero AX" - it's the arcade game (although a slightly different version).

Wow, I forgotten how good that game looks and how well it controls despite the pants shitting speeds. The only thing holding it back is HD and extra background nonsense.

I hope Ralf (the creator of this code) manages to crack through to the E3 demo. He's stated in another forum post that the content (menues, I guess?) are still on the disc - which is just another awe this game still holds secret.

Hey, you should update this article's codes! With the amount of attention these codes are getting I went back to see if Ralf updated the code, and he did about 3 weeks ago. It fixes issues with track/backdrop/audio issues on the selection screen. I also revamped that section of the TCRF article with both PAL and NTSC codes (both AR and Gecko/Ocarina), as well as some supplemental information. ;)

After a quick eBay perusal, all the old versions that let you put in your own codes are going for over $100...

Okay, so I went out and got me a used copy of F-Zero GX this weekend (yeah, I didn't have it... shame on me) and tried this out.

It's neat.  It's not the full arcade game, but it's interesting.  I need more time to play around with it.

Of interest, it mentions the ability to link 30 machines together.

I told my wife that I might need 30 GameCubes now.

Well, epic fail.

I tried booting two GCNs with two BBAs in F-Zero AX mode to see if they'd just automatically "see" each other and connect.  Nothing. :(

I didn't really expect it to work... but then, it would have been AWESOME if it had.

If there ever actually is a way found to make 30 GCN F-Zero work, we have to have a mega convention. :D

Hm.  Apparently I read something wrong.  You can only connect up to 4 machines.

Still... how to make it work with GameCubes....

Hm.  The machines have to be put into test mode to set up the Networking data...

http://www.segaarcade.com/sites/default/files/f-zero_ax_dlx_manual.pdf

Page 74.  There's a "test" button on the actual unit.  I wonder if there's some way to trick F-Zero GAX into thinking you're pressing the "test" button (or if that test menu is even present)...

The LAN mode seems to be out of the question. :(

But Ralf has released a new version of this code.  Has all the vehicles unlocked in AX mode and the title screen has the "F-Zero AX" logo on it.
