NW, don't just drop one idea because someone else is doing it.  If this type of game is what you want to do, think about ways of doing that may be unique.  Though it may be difficult to think of something differentiates itself from EA's project, perhaps you can realize something deeper, that will make it much better and a much more valuable of an experience.  Even adding a deep story into what seems like a shallow game might do worlds for it.  But let me say, if you have a unique idea, and someone else confirms they have the same idea, you shouldn't just drop it, especially if you don't want to.  Just work on doing what you think is best, and unless you're insane, like David Jaffe, it will probably work out after time.

Of course, if you were planning this game on the premise that it would be one-of-a-kind, just throw what I said out of the window, and brainstorm some other things.

Actually, it did involve a deep story mode where instead of playing as a kid you play as an adult who (along with a bunch of other adults) takes the recess games seriously. It would've started off innocently enough with games that children play (hide and go seek, four square, off the wall, etc.) then move up to more difficult games that teens would play in High School (such as scavenger hunts or ultimate frisbee.)
There would've been a multiplayer mode too...

As far as I know this is a pretty unique idea. I've seen games where children play sports, but never recess games. It's kind of funny that in my proposition that I wrote for the game I mocked EA releasing edition after edition of the same sports games and then they went and used the same concept as my idea. I'm not claiming that they stole it but it's really a "D'OH" moment when someone else beats you to the punch.

Oh goddamnit. This is exactly the game that I and my friend have been planning on making once we got out of college. Freaking EA taking an awesome idea... back to the drawing board.

If it supports WPA I'd love them forever. I have a linksys 802.11g wireless router that works nearly flawlessly on WPA, but with WEP it constantly crashes. The DS won't work if it's set to WEP either so I have to go buy one of those USB doohingeys. Wii needs to support more than just one type of encryption.

It's like, if I named my child Orange, and my parents and wife and friends hated my child because it was named Orange.  It's stupid, senseless, and immature.

I don't think that'd work. It'd be more like:

"If I named my child Orange, my parents and wife and friends would sympathize for the kid but hate ME for choosing a ridiculous name."

Edit: Although "Orange" does sound like a cool name. The Nintendo Orange... I could dig it.

"We"

I dislike the name. It sounds like they took the f out of wifi and just went with that. For a company that wants to promote themselves to non-gamers and casual gamers, using a name that would be better used for a cartoon character seems to be the wrong choice. I've seen some "at least it's more original than XBox or PS3!" comments around the net, but at least those names didn't sound so...not cool.

There's also the "IT'S JUST A NAME!" crowd. Of course it's just a name, and a name means everything in the market. You're going to buy the Wii because you already know how cool it's going to be. The non-gamers/casual gamers will look at the name and not know what to think.  I'm really hoping that they'll switch it back to the Revolution, or at least some other small name that isn't as out there as Wii. (There's AWESOME out there, and "wtf?" out there. In this case, it's the latter.)

Also as of now, I have dubbed the console the Lil' NW, for it is the Nintendo Wii.

That's a blessing. I'd love to have 70 more hours of Baten Kaitos goodness to tide me over next year. Even though there was so much to do in the first game, I felt sad once it was complete. Yay for BKII!

Originally posted by: Ian Sane<br  I don't like what they're doing with the DS.  There's too much focus on non-gamer stuff and most of their new original ideas are for stuff like Nintendogs and Electroplankton.  It's like the traditional gamers are supposed to be content with sequels like Mario Kart, Advance Wars and Animal Crossing while all the creativity goes to the non-gamers.

See, this is a typical Nintendo fanboy rant.  These past few years, everyone has been drillin Nintendo for not bring Mario Kart and Pokemon online, and to a lesser degree, for Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, and a few other games.  Now Nintendo is coming along and answering our complaints and giving us our fav games online and what do they get?  "It's like the traditional gamers are supposed to be content with sequels like Mario Kart, Advance Wars and Animal Crossing while all the creativity goes to the non-gamers."  Its like Nintendo has to be mind readers and be able to see the future to be able to answer all our complaints.  We complained about a lack of online and now we are getting them applied to our fav franchises.  Yet now there are newer complaints.  Nintendo fanboys are like nagging girlfreinds who no matter what you do, you can't ever please.  Its a lose lose situation.

Well, like a nagging girlfriend, they eventually leave you if you ignore them.
"I think we should get a pool. You know, for the kids. I'll even pay for it." "Why don't we try something different instead?! I know! The kids can cool off in THE BATHTUB! THEY CAN INVITE THREE FRIENDS!"

After one idea after another, the girlfriend finally gets sick and dumps you. Who would want to just stand in a bucket of ice with their three friends instead of swimming in a pool? As time passes, with a lot of hesitation you finally get a pool. You try to find that ex-girlfriend in hopes that you can patch the relationship back together. "Hey baby. I've got a swimming pool now! For the kids! And even more, for us!" Then she declines. What, you'd think she'd come back to you after that? It just isn't that simple. She's found someone else who gave her what she wanted. Why should she go back to you? Because you finally gave in after everyone else has done it? You need to convince her as to why she should come back to you. The pool just isn't enough.

That's pretty much the way it is with Nintendo. The other companies offer online gaming. Nintendo on the other hand offers incarnation after incarnation of Pokemon. Finally they offer online gaming and act as if it was never going to be popular before. "Oh, nobody would buy into it." If the Nintendo fans bought into buying a bunch of GBAs to hook up to the GameCube along with the cable links, the GBA cartridges, and the GC game itself, don't you'd think those Nintendo fans would do anything, including online gaming?  Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Nintendo has finally gone the way of online, but was it really necessary to have all these buckets of ice before we got the pool? Can you really blame the people who buy a GameCube for complaining when they have to sift through a bunch of sequels to find the gems? Where's that next game that will make me love Nintendo all over again? Super Mario 64 dragged me back into Nintendo's clutches, after a certain blue hedgehog had stole my heart long ago.  Make the games really worth my money and don't avoid the situation! That's what those nagging girlfriends want.

Also, a "typical Nintendo fanboy" wouldn't say something like: "It's like the traditional gamers are supposed to be content with sequels like Mario Kart, Advance Wars and Animal Crossing while all the creativity goes to the non-gamers." That's a Nintendo fan who cares. A typical Nintendo fanboy would watch the other kids eat pizza while he has to eat broccoli. Then he'll mutter under his breath: "Yeah well I don't like pizza anyway.

Heh, sorry for getting off topic...but some of us are really sick of seeing one Mario Party after another, and not the next Super Mario Bros/3/World/64 system killer. Then we're given the online gaming, only with the same old franchises that have been milked endlessly... After that, we're told to stop complaining... so basically we're being told what we like.

In a way you can say the problem is with...communication! Whoa. Like an actual relationship! Funny how it comes full circle back to the nagging girlfriend.

Waitaminute. If it's a few decades after Wind Waker (Or Ocarina of Time) wouldn't that mean that the original Link is still alive? So that would mean that there'd be two Links alive at once. :o

Unless of course Link somehow died 17 years before and was reincarnated immediately at such a young age...

Something tells me that that timeline wouldn't make sense. :/

That trailer just made the wait for this game even harder...

If you listen closely during that part where they show the blonde (or is it green?) haired girl with the horse, the song plays a few notes of Zelda's Lullaby. So so sweet!

Super Mario World? Or SSBM...sorta.

If it's any indication from the screenshots of the new SMB game for the DS, the fire flower will be making a return soon.

I think that minimal blood appearance would be good enough. Gannondorf spit some out in OoT (before it was changed to green goo) and it was fine. Nudity and blood shouldn't be in a game just for the sake of being in a game, it should have a reason to be there. I doubt that a Zelda game would need those things to be sold, anyway.

Don't they pack heat already? You know, fire flower power and all... :P

Though technically FLUDD could be considered a gun. Well, more of a super soaker really, but still.

This is rather interesting. Choose your own scripts... So in other words, I could choose to have a bloodfest in the beginning of my production, then end it with a little bit of comedy? Or am I getting the wrong idea?
