New black/plat gamecubes superior to indigo systems?
« on: January 01, 2006, 11:46:33 AM »
Im looking to buy a used gamecube off of ebay, and I see alot of indigo systems.  Are the new systems superior in hardware, or do either one have something over the other?

Some did tell me that the old indigo systems has a connection for new hi def tvs, but I could never find any info to back this up.

Older systems have a inputs for progressive scan cables where as the brand new ones do not.  There is no difference in hardware, indigo is probably in abundance just because it is the ugliest color.  Yeah, I went there.

Is their a reason why they did away with the progressive scan connection?

ALSO, how well do gamecubes hold up?  Its hard to tell what the condition is when buying off of ebay.

They only cut it to save themselves some chump change in manufacturing them. I would say buy a somewhat new one so it lasts as long as possible... but it won't matter since you'll be buying a Revolution in 11 months anyways 8)

Probably not.  Im one of those people who arent hardcore gamers, but like to play a good game every now and then.  I usually stick with PC Games, since the last console system I had was a Dreamcase (and I bought that about 2yrs ago, yrs after they stopped making them).  Previously, I owned all Nintendo systems, so I am a fan.

I read the Revolution will be able to play Gamecube games, so thats a plus.  The main reason I want a Gamecube now is for Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, and Zelda games.  Metroid and Zelda were my fav games back in NES/SNES days.

You should know that in order to take advantage of the component outlet, you need component cables, which are hard to come by - you would have to import them or get them from eBay too..

You should ALSO know that the Revolution doesn't only play GameCube games, you can also download NES/SNES/N64 games and play those as well. So if you've missed out on some gems, you'll be able to play them, or you could just play A Link to the Past and Super Metroid [/salesman]

Yea, but the reason I wait to buy a "new" system is the price.  I can never see myself paying $300-500 for a sonsole system (lke some people are doing for the xbox360).

Hehe... you may be in luck again.  Developers have speculated that the Revolution could feasibly launch at around 99-150 USD.  It is all good though since gamecube games and accessories can plug into the revolution - it is not like you are wasting money if you can get a gamecube for ~35 dollars.

Yea. I found a Indigo system. The seller rates it in terms of condition as a 4 out of 5. He is selling it with:

(1) OEM wired controller
(1) Wavebird wireless controller
(2) Memory cards
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil 4
Mario Sunshine
Soul Calibur 2
Harvets Moon
and
Metroid Prime

Hes asking $135 plus $20 s/h OR Best offer.

Go for it! That's quite a nice collection - all you would need would be 2 more controllers (if you like multiplayer) and some new games. See the "What Game Should I Get" thread at the top of the board. Not influencing you or anything, but *cough* Smash Bros *cough* Eternal Darkness *cough* F-Zero GX *cough* Zelda: Wind Waker *cough* TimeSplitters

Ahem..

Even if they weren't, I know you wouldn't think about getting an indigo one anyway, right?

lol, there is no good reason, some people just dont like the indigo color, they just dont want to admit that they are secretly in love with the little purple machine.

Edit: seriously, there is no real difference in the hadware, other than the fact that the older cubes have the progressive scan hookups, I have had my indigo gamecube since launch, and the only problem I have ever had with it is that the "open" button sticks sometimes.

Platinum looks tacky (I know, I just said tacky) and indigo is queer.  Black is cool.  Spice is just fun because it looks ridiculous.  Get one of the two (they don't even sell spice in North America, do they?).

No, they don't.

I heard a rumor that the newer GC's and all the platinum ones can't run the Freeloader to play import games. Don't know if it was ever proven or not.

Bah, indigo is the only good color. Platinum looks tacky, as kirby killer said. Black just doesn't look good up against the shiny black circular GameCube logo. And spice is the officially the worst color ever created. But indigo...mmm. And I HATE bright purple. But indigo is just the right shade....so deep....so luscious.....oh yes. All you insecure people can pretend to like your bland black cubes all you want.....you know indigo is where it's really at.

Word. Indigo is slick. Platinum is tacky and black is predictable. Spice is hawt though. One other difference with the new version of the GameCube is the lack of a proper 'nameplate assembly', as Nintendo calls it. Meaning the shiny, black, circular GameCube logo on the top. It can no longer be modified or replaced as you could with the older GameCube. So... get an old one already.

The only downside to Indigo is that they released the GBPlayer in Black only in the US and it doesn't look nearly as slick as an all indigo combo would've.

Of course I like contrarian looking colors... spice would be good as far as I'm concerned... hell, I'd have bought a Hello Kitty branded system in pink just to be different and have visitors say "what the hell is that?"

I like communism. Thanks to communism, we have James Bond. And Dr. Strangelove. And Doctor Zhivago. And don't forget M*A*S*H. I'm sure ther's some other things we can thank communism for. There's also a lot we could curse communism for. (Stalin) But it doesn't matter because the Gamecube doesn't come in red.

But the Revolution will! (If Nintendo goes with the colors they've been showing, like red).
