Topic: Pixar Worlds a Possibility for Future Kingdom Hearts Games

Tetsuya Nomura believes that Pixar worlds and characters could appear in future titles.

 In an E3 interview, Kingdom Hearts creator and character designer Tetsuya Nomura talked about the possibilities of future Kingdom Hearts games featuring Pixar-based worlds. “I am aware of the fan requests for Pixar characters,” said the Square Enix director. “I will do my best. Maybe one day Pixar characters will be featured in the Kingdom Hearts series.”    

  Recently, Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded was announced for the DS. A remake of the cell phone game, Re: Coded has Sora and friends recollecting their lost memories and hoping to complete Jiminy Cricket's journal. A new Kingdom Hearts game for the recently unveiled Nintendo 3DS was also announced, and was confirmed to be a new game in the series.    

In 2006, Pixar was bought by the Disney Company after struggling to reach a deal with their contract. Such recent successes include Cars, Wall-E, the Academy Award nominated Up, and Toy Story 3, which premiered last weekend and has already earned $109 million at the box office.

You have got to be joking...it's Chain of Memories all over again, and that game wasn't even all that good the first two times they did it!

You have got to be joking...it's Chain of Memories all over again, and that game wasn't even all that good the first two times they did it!   

I know, I rolled my eyes at the idea too... The whole Kingdom Hearts storyline is a disaster. With every new game they add something that wasn't needed and over-complicates things.

To be fair, the only reason Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't out is because the team is tied up in something else.  It would seem squeenix is being "nice" to the original team and waiting for them before the story is truly continued.

As a result, the side teams that make these smaller games are stuck mucking in the existing timeline.


To the topic at hand, Pixar worlds is pretty damn cool.  It got me thinking, Studio Ghibli is associated with Disney on some level in the states.  It would be pretty awesome if they could work out whatever needs to be worked out in Japan (and the rest of the world) to start including those worlds too.

Also, I still want KH3 on a Nintendo platform with Nintendo worlds mixed in.

I was about to post a really long "NO". I can understand mixing in Ghibli with Disney, but having at the same time these Final Fantasy characters is a big N-O-!

Keep in mind that I like Studio Ghibli products a lot. A LOT!

To the topic at hand, Pixar worlds is pretty damn cool.  It got me thinking, Studio Ghibli is associated with Disney on some level in the states.  It would be pretty awesome if they could work out whatever needs to be worked out in Japan (and the rest of the world) to start including those worlds too.

The problem with Ghibli is that Disney doesn't fully own any of their films. They are just a distributor of their films in North America. In Japan Ghibli still has total control over their franchises, meaning that if they want to license them through merchandise, attractions and the like they can do it. It's why we haven't seen any Ghibli characters around the park nor an attraction based on their films: Disney doesn't own the licensing rights to them. It's why a Ghibli world in Kingdom Hearts would never happen, unless Disney decides to buy them period and have total control of their characters and stories (much like they do now with Pixar).

Speaking of which, I think if they include a Pixar world, Toy Story would be it. Not only is it Pixar's first film, it's very popular and its world would lend itself to the whimsical charm of the Kingdom Hearts franchise (just imagine Sora, Donald and Goofy re-designed to look like toys). Me, though, I would love it if they turned Wall-E or Up into worlds. I think both would fit well in the game. Both movies have settings that meet the game world quote (Wall-E the space level, Up the jungle level) and their stories would fit into Kingdom Hearts' heart heavy narrative well (Wall-E's determination to be with EVE as well as humanity's hope for survival, and Carl's desire to fulfill his wife's wish combined with Charles Muntz's desire to get the bird for his own need would be a good contrast for Kingdom Hearts' light versus dark concepts).

If they make a Toy Story 3 world, I wonder if they could put Totoro in it, since he's in the film after all.  Too complicated with all the figuring out of who owns who and can do what with it.

I agree with this! Also i think that monsters inc. would be good for that because it has that light versus dark concept also plus i am interested in seeing how the characters would look in it.
