Thanks for all the tips, Khushrenada!  I will now try to mount everything I see!  Uh...

Speaking of that, I stumbled onto an enemy that freaked me out, since I had unwittingly already "mounted" it.  I'm glad that wasn't spoiled for me.

I also like being able to solve things multiple ways, Azeke.  Like the traditional 3D Mario games, there is a lot of room to exploit the physics to get nearly anywhere.  I have accidentally solved some shrines the "wrong" way, which made me feel kinda dumb, but it was still cool.

I went off looking for a certain thing that characters were hinting at, only to find that it was gated behind a certain number of heart containers.  This seemed out of character for a game that emphasizes freedom and punishes people who were focusing on stamina upgrades.  Some mechanics in the game, like weapons as durable as plastic sporks, feel strangely malicious toward the player.  I am now focusing on shrines to get up to speed, which is not a bad job.

I fought the Lynel in that first location too and had a lot of fun dying many times.  I had four hearts at the time, but a lot of food.  It was a food fest.  I didn't know about that trick, so I'll try it on the next one.

It was obvious that you were meant to stealth around and get the items instead of fight, but it's cool that they let you just go for it.

I heard from some guy in the game that there was a place to revive dead horses, so you may not be in too much trouble if you lose Epona .  I have only mounted one horse and found it too limiting compared to being able to climb and glide around.  Maybe it will make more sense on another area of the map.

Yeah, after my hands adapted, I prefer split controls for most things.  The sticks aren't bad.  Much better than the 3DS circle pads.

It is just too expensive for now.  When the price drops, I will likely get one.  I have adapted to the JoyCon for Zelda, with the benefit being the ability to hold my hands at different angles.  The main thing I miss is the D-pad.

Great review Neal.

I am curious about the amiibo, specifically the wolf link one. Was the wolf useful or is it a gimmick? Any thoghts on the uses of the other amiibo?

I have been using a lot of the Amiibo, and they surprisingly add a lot to the game.  Wolf Link is a fun companion that makes the game less lonely and actually helps in battle without helping too much.  He distracts enemies, so good for fighting groups.  The negative side is that he tends to make a lot of noise and rush ahead, and will quickly get himself killed with enemies that have projectiles.  Make sure not to use him when stealth is needed.

Oh, and Wolf Link will also sniff out nearby shrines once you get the little radar option for that.  It doesn't help much in the sense that you already have something telling you one is nearby, but it is fun to follow your dog friend as he sniffs.

As for the other Zelda Amiibo, I was afraid that they would be overpowered, but they don't really give you that much of an advantage.  Instead, they give you a regular supply of random ingredients, making cooking more fun.  There are also a lot of costumes from earlier games that are fun to slowly collect.  They don't have high stats or anything, but are fun to use.

My main annoyance now is a lack of inventory slots.  I need to figure out how to expand that.

Ah, that sounds more interesting.

Yeah, I feel the same way.  Very impressive aesthetically, but rogue likes tend to be tedious.

There is now an unofficial Android app with a recipe book function, although it is very new and I think the developer is still tinkering.

Paying more for what will likely be the worst looking/running version of the game seems off, but I do like the physical release.  I might wait for it to have a price drop, although it will likely be a small fraction of the price on PC by then.  Given the price of Bomberman and Tetris, it makes sense that Indies would see a chance to charge more on the Switch.  If they don't sell well, the price will come down.

Mine was just shipped from Walmart and somehow says it will arrive tomorrow (I didn't pay extra for shipping).  Don't give up hope.

Let's move our Porta Potties into the same landfill and play some Switch.  No haters allowed.

Huge home?  Is an 8' room length so big?  I guess it depends on where you're from.  I personally live in a porta potty.

I can see the hand or body blocking the signal in situations where people are curled up or sprawled out on the couch or bed, which the disconnected controllers would be perfect for.  I would be more likely to do this under a blanket when the weather is cold.  Hopefully, it is just an issue with the controllers being in a low power mode or something that can be patched.

I am a little more worried about it because the Pro controller is too expensive to buy for a while.

I don't know the engineering reasons, but I have noticed that some devices use power directly when plugged in (no battery is even needed) and others use the battery for power even when charging.  In both cases, the battery is being charged when plugged in, but the latter could cause issues like this.  I also wonder if it causes more wear on the battery to charge it at the same time as it is being used.  Seems like it could be problematic as the Switch ages.

Seems very similar to the PS4 Pro tradeoffs, which developers are slowly getting better at.  I hope it is just birthing pains with the Switch as well.

Blaster Master looks fun.  I never played the Wii game.

From what I remember of the documentation, the dock mode requires a larger than usual power source (15V/2.6A), but a standard USB-C charger should work for portable use or charging.  The included cable is USB-C and can plug into the dock or directly into the Switch.

It looks like the bundle will make the game essentially free, like Wii Play.  Although, the Joy Con are still so expensive that I might just pick it up separately for now.  If I could afford another controller, it would be the Pro.

UCH has a cool concept.  The main thing I want from Indie games is short local multiplayer experiences, since Steam is generally a better way to play long form or graphically intense stuff.  It would also be nice to see games do silly things with the IR depth camera and motion controls.  Basically, high concept stuff that wouldn't make sense for a full retail game.

I can't decide if the sword in the Master edition looks cheap or nice, but I want it after watching that video.  It looks much bigger next to Aunuma than it did to Reggie.

It's been impossible to get, thankfully.  I don't need to spend more money on Zelda after all the Amiibo.  For those that missed it, Gamexplain did a video covering what they all do.  Nothing too interesting, but I particularly like the fancy Bokoblin clubs.  For some reason, I find the little gremlins adorable.  I can imagine them working really hard during arts and crafts at evil Summer camp making them.

I'm still curious about the new Amiibo functionality.  They might ultimately be more useful than the treasure chests of promotional clothing.  When I first read these items, I thought I would just buy the story part.  Hard mode is only interesting if it is significantly different, as opposed to enemies taking more damage and that sort of thing.  If I want that, I'll just play the whole game naked.

At $20, the extra story content needs to be very substantial.  Since most of us will have beaten the main game and most of the side quests, having the end reward be a special weapon or armor would be meaningless.  It just needs to be fun and compelling for a long time.  If they do that, and it doesn't feel like they just left out content that should have been there to begin with, then I'll be happy with it.
