Nintendo Gaming / Re: Watch_Dogs officially announced for the Wii U
« on: February 21, 2013, 05:31:06 AM »
It looks like Assasin Creed in modern urban environment. I'm game for that.

Story is kinda confusing (predicting crimes Minority Report style? Why are cops going after him then?), but who cares.

This is actually what I keep seeing in it. I think Assassin's Creed was probably the foundation (big cities, lots of roaming around if you want, not necessarily rushed to do things in the cities).

This seems to be an Assassin's Creed, of the FUTURE. Which is odd knowing the Assassin's Creed storyline somewhat.

I really try my best not to get hyped over stuff, and I'm actually wondering how well the Wii U version will run (I want to see how well LEGO City is first).

TalkBack / Re: Interview - ZombiU's Florent Sacré and Guillaume Brunier
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:09:09 PM »
"The first handful of reviews for ZombiU scored the game lower than the now average on Metacritic and seemed to pan the game for being less action-packed than most first-person shooters. "

Actually, I can name you 2 out of 3 "lower" scoring "reviews" with "reviewers" that apparently didn't finish the game. I can name you one site that "reviewed" it with a high score, that didn't finish, but they did have a full page ZombiU ad running at the same time. After the editors/staffers knew the game was not finished before it got a review, did they pull the review? Nope. They deleted comments from the "review" showing it had not been completed, then threatened a user with (another) ban if he "undermined" the review. Yes, asking questions such as, "Was the review completed? How many hours did it take? How many survivors?" and stating things like, "The review has incorrect information" or "The review has bad information" is "undermining".

So, you have three large sites (one site/magazine) that apparently didn't complete the game, but we're supposed to trust them for their "reviews"? Gamez journalizm is a joke. I feel sorry for developers these days, sending out copies to sites/reviewers and the "reviewers" don't even finish the game before slapping a score on it. Developers spend 1-2 years making a game, and a reviewer can't spend 10-20 hours to finish a game?

So, if Florent and Guillaume are reading the comments, I really hope they realize (they probably know) that the early reviewers (some negative, one good) didn't even finish the game, and wanted to complain to complain apparently. Or, they realized their audience may want to hear something a little different and that the site they were reviewing it for had a full page ad for the game running, which is no fault of Ubisoft, but the site itself.

I have it. Took me 30+ hours to "finish" the story. This game has set the standard for 2D platforming/puzzle games in the graphical department for me.

I enjoyed the story-telling aspect and humor in the game, and the puzzles made me think. I got stuck quite often, but I enjoyed the slower paced setting of the game. It's a great way to "end" the day, relaxing and playing through a level or two.

I'm just waiting on the U.S. to get the voice-chat update, to give the online another try. I'm actually going to be playing it here in a bit, trying to collect everything in the levels already played.

Probably twice as long as any issue of Game Informer or Nintendo Power.

You must not subscribe to GameInformer. Latest issue is 100 pages, with about 10 ads. That's 90 pages of content.

I bought the digital copy of NF, but at $5 a copy, it won't happen again. There was only one piece I was interested in, and it didn't change the fact I was already buying the game. Neal, while the PHYSICAL copy price isn't really in your control, why not make the digital copy A LOT less? I can get a year's subscription to most magazines for $20, for physical copies. Many offer digital versions now though, at lower costs.

Also, what charity is getting the money?

« on: January 08, 2013, 06:59:57 PM »
I don't even like mentioning one part of the game mentioned in the piece, as I hope it's a "surprise" to many new players of it.

I usually refer to it as "Bacon", and if you have played it you may know why.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with ZombiU, and fortunately I didn't hit/experience any "game breaking" bugs or glitches in, that being said though I do hope Ubisoft releases a patch to fix some of the glitches. I think a patch fixing the issues would help new players not get frustrated with it, and I could take out my default, "It's not perfect, you may experience glitches that cause you to have to start over..." lines here and there, but I'm very glad to see ZombiU see the light of day, and I do hope we get more of it in the future...in some fashion.

Beat the game and somehow survived the difficult ending! While the plot is fairly ho-hum, I'm impressed with the gameplay and difficulty.

For those who have beaten the game, which ending did you get? I got the good one.

I honestly have no idea which ending I got (does it tell you?), but I am going to attempt to beat the game again and hope I can tell a difference at the end.

I did really enjoy it though, and I think it's a real shame that there are so many "reviewers" of the game that apparently didn't even finish it...and instead of answering simple questions about it, they ignore/block you and won't answer a question like, "Did you finish the game?"

The graphics and music are wonderful, and the off screen play is such an awesome feature- the game looks great on the gamepad alone.

Yes it does! As a matter of fact, we use a SD TV, and the game looks better on the GamePad (brighter, crisper, better coloring) than on our TV...which is one reason why we are looking for a HD TV now.

When a Wii U game being played on the GamePad looks better than your TV, I think that says something about the TV!

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U Demo Station Impressions (Stated on 10/17)
« on: November 04, 2012, 02:30:35 AM »
I went to target today and tried it out, sadly NOT A SINGLE PLAYABLE GAME. I looked and everything was not marked out so I can't try out.

Some people were around it and seemed interested but when no games were playable they thought it was broken and walked off. The kid actually tried to find a playable demo but nothing.

Way to go Nintendo have a new console and it can only play videos and not play ANY GAMES.

I thought the L/R buttons were supposed to be clicky like Gamecube/360 . Outside of not being to play ANYTHING i did like the feel of the controller and the design of the console.

Wow, glad to know Target, at least of now, doesn't have a playable demo on it...so I don't attempt to make a trip there. It really doesn't make any sense to me, that they don't have a "demo" that will walk people through the features of the system and GamePad built into the stations.
Like a, "Want to see the features of the Wii U and GamePad? TOUCH HERE!" and it starts on a demo of Nintendo TVii, and other things like the touch/motion controls on the GamePad, the streaming features, etc....seriously, what have they been doing? It makes no sense to me.

Remember, this is the game that was shown off at E3 2011 as Killer Freaks from Outer Space. I doubt any third party Wii U game has had more development time than this one, and based on what I played it shows. They seemed to have better ideas and uses for the GamePad than anything else outside of Nintendo Land.

I'm a massive Pikmin fan, have been looking forward to Pikmin 3 for the better part of a decade and played its demo at E3 five times, but Zombi U beat that game out for my favorite game of the show. This really blew me away.

I do understand the change of game from Killer Freaks to this, but I just hope that in the change it works out for the best. A recent developer interview said ZombiU (current form I guess) has about a year of production time.

As for the part I emboldened, it's one reason I'm really interested in Rabbids LAND. Knowing how well they used the Wii Remote/Nunchuk/Balance Board attempting new ideas in the Rabbids Wii games, makes me think Rabbids LAND may make better use of the GamePad in FUN and FUNNY ways, than Nintendo Land will.

I haven't looked at any footage or read anything about this game since E3. My time with it there sold me the game.

Awesome! I'm glad to know an experience at E3, basically when we first learned of this game, was solid enough to help sell you on the game.

My only concern has been the short development time on the game, and it being rushed. I really do hope the single-player campaign is 10+ hours...

That gamesradar playthrough was the hawtness.
Indeed. I was tense just watching.

I am currently in a semi self-imposed blackout of the game. I don't want to see much more, or know much more, before I play it. Right now, it's a day one buy.

Yes, and I try to make sure to never quote anything as "sales" data, unless it's the Virtual Console and WiiWare titles, because then it's easy to do the math on the reported numbers and how much has possibly been made... but even then it's never stated as ALL sold.
Thanks for the site and your work!

Just went through your reports about VC games:

Not bad for a bunch of roms, eh?

Haha! Glad you found it interesting, and those are just the PUBLISHED reports. Not counting my NCD folder of around 150gbs of video and screenshots of games over the last 3 years.  :Q

If I want to run a Wii U on an older non-HDTV, can I just use a Wii component cable?

I believe this has been confirmed yes, with pictures of the back of the units shown.

Okay - so let's be honest - no, the Nintendo Channel data isn't even a remote indicator of how well the game sold.

(Question though - do you have to open the Nintendo Channel on a regular basis to send the data?  I thought it did that automatically via the WiFi Connection....)

That's why you can't really compare this number to raw sales data of other games.

But what you CAN do is compare it to the play data from other games.  To me, the results of this are quite interesting.

I do it more for the hours reported, and provided the number of players as extra information, just like the "professional" and user reviews in the pieces, as well as trying to find trailers/videos for them.

Hey, that's my post(s)! Haha.

I always clarify the "Nintendo Channel" information, but it's definitely not reflective of all Wii players... well, unless ALL Wii owners report the data, which usually isn't the case. So, it's hard to know for sure, but you can get a rough guestimate with a lot of the information for total sales.

"Microsoft has turned their Xbox into far more than a gaming console, it’s a multimedia center. Nintendo TVii is a good start, but it feels like a drop in the pond compared to what Microsoft has been doing for years."

I owned the original Xbox, and enjoyed gaming on it. I don't own a 360 though. It's the only "current gen" system I don't own. I'm don't really understand the "multimedia center" stuff when I hear it about the 360, and it's probably because I don't have one....but how much of that "stuff" requires and Xbox Live subscription?

Also, providing examples of what Microsoft "has been doing for years" might help me understand the comparison there, as I don't really have anything to base it off of.

The only thing I have seen critics be right on so far, is a lack of information...but even that is okay with me, as long as they address the remaining big issue(s) before launch. Online.

"online co-op"
Ohhhhh really....

I gotta say, sure, the graphics look dated (thought so when I saw it at E3 in the trailer), but the gameplay for some reason reminds me of EDF. Any idea if they're comparable and perhaps TTT starts to offer more when you get further in it?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U in Review (News & Rumor Consolidation)
« on: September 23, 2012, 03:11:06 AM »
Say one has a Nintendo Wii Points Card since launch, purchased, but still unopened.... what are the chances that it will work with the store interface (if any) of the Wii U?  Has there been word of how the points will transition.  The VC titles?

I'm worried this card may not even work simply due to age, but I'd rather not dump it into a system when the successor is only a few months away.  Nintendo didn't really have an account system, so I can see transitioning being tricky.

Yeah, the online stuff is what I'm waiting to hear from Nintendo, and not addressing it at the main conference seemed really odd to me. I mean, they were pitching Nintendo TVii for nearly 1/3rd of the conference, but failed to address the eShop, Virtual Console and WiiWare transfers, prices, purchases, online multiplayer, etc. I really hope they blow the lid off on it before the console releases, because if not it might be a reason I don't get the system.

As for your Wii Points Card, do you still have a Wii that works? A Nintendo rep when interviewed after the conference said the Virtual Console (and WiiWare) purchases will transfer from the Wii consoles to the Wii U consoles, but you will need both consoles to make it work.

So, if you have your Wii still, you can use the points on Virtual Console/WiiWare titles, and then just transfer them over when/if you get the Wii U...I just hope it's an easy transition.

"However, it never reaches its true potential as the system's capabilities are a lot better than just a 2.5D format. It doesn't make the game any bad or worse, but it is something that should certainly be addressed with the next portable outing."

Hmmm, this is what an initial concern I had with the 3DS was, that developers wouldn't spend time finding ways to make the 3D effects interesting and/or not even applicable in some games.
Overall though, it sounds like a pretty solid Sonic game.  Thanks for covering it!
