Nintendo Gaming / RE:Game Market is Nintendos for the taking

If Nintendo can produce a kick ass show tomorrow, I will deem this E3, and the PS3, the biggest misstep in video games console history.  Worse than the SNES choosing philips over the Sony cd add on that became the Playstation, and worse than the sticking with cartridges with the N64.  Worse than the Saturn and Dreamcast combined.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is almost like everyone wants Nintendo to step up and take over the world. I can't believe the $600 price tag on the real PS3. Terrible move on Sony's part. Let's just pray that Nintendo rocks our socks off in less than 2 hours.

As I said before, only one word can describe Sony's entire E3 Presentation, Embarassing. They managed to rip off Nintendo and then drop the price bomb about the PS3.

Did anybody else see the pricing, $499.99 for the base system and it has only a 20 GB HDD. Not to mention it lacks support for Memory Sticks, SD and Compact Flash cards, no built-in Wi-Fi and the HDMI output is also removed. I guess that means the only PS3 package worth buying is the fully functional system at a whopping $599.99. OUCH! That is a full $200 more than the Xbox 360. How does Sony intend on being a) profitable and b) competitive?

I think this may be it my friends, Nintendo's golden opportunity to grab hold of the market they once reigned. I'll keep my fingers crossed for an amazing presentation tomorrow.

Wow, that's embarassing. I almost started to get angry when I realized how unbelievably embarassing that is. For some reason I think Sony may be taking a backseat to Nintendo this generation.

Get pumped people because tomorrow Nintendo is going to show Sony how motion sensing is really done.

This is my last post regarding the name Wii.

I personally do not like the name, but I hope Nintendo markets it effectively and it becomes a staple in the English language sort of like iPod. In addition, I think we should all stop arguing about the whole name issue because nobody is going to unanimously agree that the name is good or bad. I say we all stop whining/fighting, and look forward to the sweetness E3 2006 will be.

TalkBack / RE:EDITORIALS: Wii Will Get Over It, Won’t Wii?
« on: May 03, 2006, 07:10:56 PM »
Thanks Rick, couldn't be put better. Everyone keeps saying, well only the gamers out there are going to really hate the name, well let me tell you a story.

This morning I get into my car and click on the radio. Every morning on my way to work/school I listen to Rover's Morning Glory. They do a little bit called "The Shizzy" where they report news that their audience may find interesting. One of the stories today was how Nintendo renamed their system from Revolution to Wii. All the hosts on the show really aren't gamers with the exception of one who only plays sports games. The immediate reaction after hearing the name was "Oh my God! That is the gayest(sic) name I have ever heard! That would be like Atari calling their next system the flower! That name is terrible. What was wrong with the name Revolution?" The market Nintendo is trying to hit is people like that, and look at the reaction they received. After a couple of minutes of babbling about the name, the ended on the note that the name was terrible and that nobody would buy it because of the name.

Outstanding.

I am just keeping my fingers crossed that come E3 Nintendo is going to be like "LOLZ Wii were just kidding!11!! Viva la Revolution!" But god knows that'll never happen. Damn you Nintendo and your awful marketing department. I swear they actually want this system to fail.

I really don't think we should judge the Wii's graphical power by some screenshots of a single game, of which we have no clue how far into the development cycle it is. Gamecube games really didn't look that bad(RE4), and if the Wii is 2x as powerful or a bit more, these games should look fantastic. Just because the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have a ton of horsepower, doesn't mean the games will look that great. Alot of processing power is often wasted on features that aren't easily seen by the human eye. By cutting these out and taking other shortcuts Wii games have potential to look just about as good. Plus, it isn't about the graphics it's all about the gameplay. Star Fox 64 looks like ass but I'd take that anyday over Star Fox: Assault.

I say Nintendo charges $199 for the Wii and hooks us up with all the attachments and an extra Wii-mote. Quite frankly it could cost $400 and I'd still buy one.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo should partner with Apple
« on: May 03, 2006, 06:15:52 AM »
I personally was a big Apple hater up until about a year ago when I broke down and bought an iBook. Since then I see that Apple really has alot of good ideas and is more centered around making their customers happy over anything else. A partnership with Nintendo always seemed like a good choice to me and I think the Wii would be a success without question if somehow they could integrate iPod support. I don't personally own one(nor do I ever want one), but the iPod market is EXACTLY the market Nintendo is trying to appeal to. Not to mention, it would be pretty cool to have some variant of Mac OS X on the Wii.

Smash_Brother nailed down the exact benefits of this relationship, and I wish the situation would actually happen.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo World Store Showing E3 Press Conference

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous, I'm originally from Brooklyn(NYC) and being out in Rochester is like living in a different country. Rochester/Buffalo is pretty much the furthest point from NYC. Actually 100% of New Jersey is closer than Rochester to NYC, even alot of Massachusetts is closer. But when Nintendo World Store opened I made the trip down there and it was pretty cool. Fun day trip plus I got some cool stuff.

Bah!  I'd go if it were only 6 hours (I assume that's round trip?)  Mapquest says it's about 16 hours - one way - for me.

Actually 6 hours one way assuming traffic isn't bad. Plus I'm broke :-(.

Best.E3.Ever.

I can't imagine what Nintendo is going to drop on us with the Wii/Revolution business, not to mention the DS and Twilight Princess. I was talking with my buddy about the possibility of Nintendo dropping the bomb on some Smash Bros. DS game that has some linkage with the Wii version. That would be so hot. 1 week and we will be enlightened!

Great idea! An interactive system game would be awesome. It's one of those things that should've been done so long ago.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: What are the chances?
« on: April 28, 2006, 02:19:39 PM »
I really don't mind things the way they are, but I would really like Nintendo to grab a larger share of the market and be back on top again. I think they were dealt alot of hard lessons and have come a long way since the old days and deserve some recognition. I think the title being Wii may hinder the chances Nintendo has at being number 1 but what do I know. What I do know is that I'm going to buy one without question.

Check out this post over on Kotaku Did Nintendo Punk Us with Wii?.

It appears some analysts think that the whole Wii title announcement is a type of viral marketing because Wii has not been patented in the US, Europe or Japan. All I have to say is interesting but highyl unlikely, worth a read though.
