TalkBack / Re: Wii U System Update 4.1.0 Downloadable Now
« on: April 01, 2014, 06:05:17 PM »
I know I should have timed stuff before this update, but it feels like they've improved startup times at least for some digital games. It now takes about 12 seconds for my system to get from Wii U home screen to actually playing a level in Edge.

Why put on a direct when it will do nothing more than underline that the only game they have lined up before E3 is Mario Kart? I guess it makes sense if Iwata secretly loves to apologize for his screw ups over and over and over again on camera.

As of today, the only upcoming retail release from a third party publisher on Wii U in japan is Hyrule Warriors. That's kind of insane, even for a Nintendo console.

Stop doing this you morons! Fill out the platforms you've got before you promise more. Those single release weeks of Brain Age an similar titles will lead to the death of my sanity.

The N64 main failure was the cartridge design.  Clearly he had a hand in that decision, but initially third party support was better for the N64 over the PS1.  Gamecube third party support was equal to Xbox even though it was less than the PS2.  I don't think Iwata took over at a time of disadvantage, but one exists now.  You can blame that on the corporate culture which Yamauchi was a part of, but I don't think you can blame Yamauchi's interactions with third parties directly for the situation we are in.

The PS1 already had more than 300 titles in its library when the N64 finally hit the market in June 1996. The N64 never hit 300 games in any region during the entire life of the console.

It's getting the sales it deserves. I mean, what exactly did they do during this year of awful droughts and apologies? Did they drastically boost the size of the VC library? No. Did they announce a lot of new games and partnerships? No. Did they add tons of new features to the WiiU OS? No. Did they do anything outside of that january Nintendo Direct to get people excited about the present or the future of this console? Of course not. It's the usual silent treatment and "see you at the next game release just a couple of months from now!".

It's kind of funny how the sales of the Vita never stopped japanese developers from supporting it. Here's the number of planned releases (not counting download-only stuff) for each platform in japan.

Vita 128
PS3 108
PSP 74
3DS 63
PS4 40
360 31
WiiU 16

TalkBack / Re: Top 10 Wii U Games: Year One
« on: December 03, 2013, 03:20:39 AM »
1. The Wonderful 101
2. Super Mario 3D World
3. Edge

I had fun with all three games I played for Wii U, but there's really no question which game belongs in the number one spot.

I would probably feel bad for Nintendo if I didn't expect the first six months of 2014 to be a complete joke when it comes to game releases. Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart and yet another awful Mario Sports Spinoff would make it the typical Nintendo spring lineup.

Come on, Shibata. Bring Zangeki no Reginleiv and Takt of Magic to the european eshop so that I can get rid of my japanese Wii. It wouldn't hurt if they were in 720p as well.

Well, it's the least disappointing newcomer so far...

This EA conference is like one big middle finger to the Wii U.

I don't care if this is nothing but 30 minutes of them explaining a mini-game in WiiU Party. I'm just glad they're finally talking about WiiU again.

14
With nothing going on in WiiU land right now, I wish they would just get started with the pre-E3 Nintendo Directs already. One for the launch window stuff this week and another in two weeks covering X, Yoshi and Wind Waker. People will still tune in for the new Mario come E3.

If the argument for bringing the Virtual Console to other platforms is that it's not selling people on the hardware, then I guess they better port NSMBU and Nintendo Land to PS3/360 as well.

16
So Reggie is leaving and they couldn't find a person to replace him on stage? They've announced everything in previous Nintendo Directs and simply want people to go hands-on with the tiny lineup they could scrape together? They've pulled a Wind Waker with one or more of the games and don't want to risk people freaking out over a trailer before the press can give gameplay impressions? Can't wait to find out.

The drawings are messed up on my old ipod touch. I guess they only tested it with retina displays.

I don't know about you guys, but I will definitely check back every week for the next five years to see if the game I'm waiting for is randomly selected for a VC release!

They could have a Super Luigi 3D Land ready for this year, right?

At this point, Sam Fisher is more worthy of a spot in the next Smash Bros. than Snake.

I wonder if Reggie will invite the Armature guys to the E3 press conference for a live demo.

I guess we'll finally find out how good Retro would be without Nintendo.

24
Definitely Sandlot. They made the best motion plus game on the Wii and gave it the best online multiplayer seen on that system as well.

All hope is not lost. If someone at DICE has a kid that likes Smash Bros we might get a BF4 soldier in the roster!
