TalkBack / Re: New Smash Brothers Characters Revealed

I'm with you, Cater. Believe it, I want Ridley playable in Smash 4, too. There's no valid excuse whatsoever as to why he shouldn't make it in the game as playable.

Ridley deserves a character spot on the roster just as much as Bowser, Ganondorf, and King Dedede do.

I wonder if I could start a Kickstarter to raise funds for an investment visa for the UK? ...so that I can finally move my arse "home."

Excellent game. I was 20 minutes behind everyone else...but I kept myself spoiler-free from Twitter. Great job, USMNT.

And now I look forward to Thursday...

54
Splatoon. Totally. Nothing impressed me as much as did its chaotic nature and gameplay mechanics.

I am slightly disappointed that Klonoa isn't Namco's representative for Smash. His magic ring and turning enemies into bubbles to jump off of would be an interesting mechanic in the Smash universe.

I do like how the Man that is Pac looks, though. Glad to see a greatly varied move set coming from him.

I think one of the major questions to be asked is...

Are we going to see the return of Nunchuk & Remote+, or is the game going to heavily use the GamePad for controls? I could definitely see using the GamePad touchscreen for bow/arrow firing - easily allows for pinpoint accuracy, but part of me wants that sweet, sweet pointer control to return for firing off those thin and pointy death sticks.

I don't know. *shrug*

I would totally buy that game. Maybe it has Super Mario Bros. 2 gameplay mechanics?!

So... no one is going to discuss the laser/beam arrow that Link is about to snuff him with?
I paused the frame on "Link" and his horse, and I noticed a few things...

First, he has no sword. His bow and circular shield are strapped on to his horse. Maybe the horse plays more of a pivotal role this time around - obviously in traversing the large landscape. But maybe as in an equipment manager...somehow?

Second, his arrow quiver looks to be a primary part of his overall attire/tunic. If the bow and arrow is indeed his primary weapon this time, I'm completely satisfied with that. It was my favourite weapon to wield in Skyward Sword for taking out baddies, anyhow.

The crazy-looking laser/short staff thing was also being held on the side of his horse. After shooting off two bomb arrows (yay for combo'ing weapons again - loved that in L'sA and SS), he then reached down quickly to grab that laser/staff thing...to which the horse then gave him a boosted jump to fire it off. Colour me intrigued...very intrigued.

So, yeah. Zelda for Wii U. Obviously in the beginning development stages. But good heavens, does it look mind-blowing and brilliant. There were so many small, intricate other things going on during that field scene before the monster attacked. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

But what if they launch it at $39.99? I figure it's unlikely...but they might.

This whole $60 starting price mess has got to stop. It's getting ridiculous.

It's the pits.

Crazy predictions for Wii U:
*everything you said*
Good heavens, I love the way you think. New Icarus, Mario Paintball, true Pokémon MMO for a home console, Mike Jones added to the Smash roster, and a new StarTropics game? Yes, please. A thousand times over, yes.

I would literally wet my pants if this were to happen.

But why would the "new players" even think about hiring "old guys" when the old guys are the ones who messed this entire thing up to begin with?

What we're seeing with indies is the exact thing that occurred with the introduction of NES and Master System - a flourishing of new game ideas with the simple concept of gameplay and solid play control as the foundation to build upon.

I say let the industry, as it is currently, crash and burn. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and Take Two deserve to fall apart after all of this nonsense they've been pushing for in our beloved games industry.

And no way would the industry become just mobile games. Mobile will stay just that...mobile. They can't pierce into the home console market. Not with the types of genres home console gaming can create with tight, twitch-based gameplay. Fight games, platformers, deep action RPGs - these all require one simple premise. A gamepad. A touch screen wouldn't do them justice.

if you havent checked it out yet. Go watch FARGO. Really good, a different plotline than the movie in case you guys were staying away.
I second this. Last night's episode was unreal in terms of story progression. Two weeks ago, unreal in terms of particular scenes involving blind, snowy situations and gunfire. Wow.

I read over at kotaku over a new technique being used by mario kart wii u players called fire hopping which supposedly can keep the drift boost going a little longer.
Yup. I started using the technique after hearing about it, too, and it has helped immensely with 150cc mode.

Yeah, Ceric, I believe there's been two trailers released now that show actual battle mechanics. It's definitely built from the Xenoblade engine. Looks fantastic.

You took my words literally? C'mon, Brandogg. You should know me better than that by now.

And BnM, I definitely wasn't expecting it either. But I'd definitely love to see this game hit the Wii U. I'm such a huge fight game fan, that I wouldn't pass it up if it were on a console I owned. Maybe Steam? Hah, irony, as I could play it using my Pro Controller. :P

Well, after spending 6+ hours with online races, both randoms and tournaments, a 7.5 score is absolutely insane.  Especially in light of a 10 for an interminable cakewalk like Kirby's Epic Yarn.
Well, after spending 6+ hours with online AND offline races, both with randoms and tournaments, a 7.5 score is absolutely justified. Especially in light of a 10 for an incredible gameplay mechanic infused and graphically endearing experience like Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Seriously. Mario Kart 8 is GRAND. It is so buttery smooth, that I can't really express in words how much of a joy this game is to play. Does it bring anything drastically new to the table, though? Nope. The zero-G/anti-gravity stuff is really brilliant, however. Racing along and then having to tilt my head a little to keep up with the action as I go sideways on a wall is a very cool experience. You don't even realise you're doing it, because it just feels natural. And the new U-turn move in battle mode is quite handy. Love that addition.

But is the game an overall polished-to-the-brim, graphically impressive, visually charming experience? Oh, absolutely. 7.5 is an above average score, people. And this is a very above average game. And would I raise Neal's score by .5 if actual Battle Mode arenas were added to the game via DLC? No doubt.

Mario Kart 8. GET IT.
