Episode 43 - NO STRINGS ON US
« on: October 30, 2014, 02:00:00 AM »

Famicast season two begins! Join the crew for a brand new adventure in Japan as good times await!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/famicast/38841/episode-43-no-strings-on-us

Welcome to Famicast season two! That’s right, we’re on our own feed now - the strings have been officially cut from RFN! Thank you to everyone who has subscribed to the new Famicast feed and just remember if you are only subscribed to RFN, you will no longer be getting "the best only Nintendo podcast recorded in Japan in English." That would make us sad pandas.

On to the show! New business starts with our only (tentative) link to Halloween with a classic game only Japanese Famicom / 3DS owners will have played, Devil World. The game that never made it to the west, for obvious reasons, turns out to be a pretty good rival for Pac-man. Listen to Danny’s verdict on whether it beats the pill-muncher at his own game.

JC gives impressions of his newly-acquired New 3DS, which he finally got after a failed attempt at launch. Turns out the new features of the system worked better than he expected leading to his conclusion that it is the DS Lite of the 3DS family of systems in his eyes. Danny also tag-teams some updated Smash impressions after he and JC played the game online with their new systems. Does the new console improve connection speed? This is the only podcast in the world to find out how the game and new hardware fare here in their native country!

Ty wraps things up with a rare N64 fighting game, and no it isn’t Killer Instinct Gold (although that is briefly mentioned). Find out how one of the few of its kind on the N64 fares against the likes of Tekken et al!

Finally the show finishes up with a return of Life in Japan ™, thanks to a barrage of suggestions sent in by a few plucky listeners. Thanks to them for their ideas, but we’d also like to ask you to keep them coming as we always need Japan-flavo(u)red questions and topics to talk about. Anything you’ve ever wondered about what it’s like to live/game in Japan, send it our way – the answer will most likely be entertaining in some way! Email us at famicast@nintendoworldreport.com, hit us up on Twitter at @thefamicast, or sound off in the talk back thread below!

We hope you guys enjoy the first episode of the Famicast that is exclusively on our own feed (you should get on that if you haven't already!). On a side note, while editing, I noticed that the audio for both James and myself is a little bit on the quiet side. I did my best to keep everything as level and listenable as possible, but I'm sorry for any annoyances there!

We have some cool music tracks in between the segments, most of which are familiar enough while some others are slightly remixed! Let us know what you think about that and the episode in general! We're always looking forward to hearing from you guys no matter what! Below you can see the tracks used in the episode! Enjoy!

1 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III : The Manhattan Project (NES) - Scene 2
2 - Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS - Mute City
3 - Metroid Prime - Title Screen Intro Theme
4 - Super Castlevania IV - Simon's Theme (on Guitar, YouTube Guitarwanker90)
5 - The X-Files Theme (Techno Speed Remix)
6 - Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (I am Impact) - Remix Goemon Mystics (YouTube DjthesDotcom)
7 - F-Zero Mute City (Hip-Hop Trap Remix, YouTube ALM5252)

I haven't had a chance to listen to the podcast yet, but it sounds like a great show! Nice to have Minoru back! :)

BTW, Devil World was released in Europe in 1987. No idea if it was popular at all over there. Maybe some of our PAL members have some memories of it.

Well I can't speak for Danny's future on this site ;) , but the rest of us aren't going anywhere!

Just to clarify though, we are every other week (2 a month) but RFN and Connectivity are weekly  :D

Please to enjoy!

Congrats on season 2 and starting your own feed. Been listening since episode 1 and have enjoyed every minute of podcasting you do.

I have a serious question: Do you have a feed for the Zune Marketplace?

Yes i still use a Zune. (commence internet shaming)

Sorry for trying to give you another shot and a different perspective on Smash Run. if you think it's poopy, your'e entitled to that. at the same time, I feel that it's important to try and also look at something for your audience and try and tell folks if it's not just for you or if it's truly awful or if you can't tell.

It's funny, I actually know about Rose and Carmella because you find the .SWF file for the game in La Mulana and run it on your laptop to make certain attacks stronger...!

Clex, sorry if I came across as an asshole on the show about Smash Run. That definitely wasn't my intent. If it were a little bit shorter (2-3 minutes) and if I had some people around to play with me, it would probably be more fun. It really would have been cool to see the ode online assuming they could have gotten it running smoothly.

NEStaticales, we'll look into that. Someone else asked about something similar on Twitter. If we can do it, we will! Anyway, enjoy the show guys!

If it's any consolation, Danny can't help but come off as an asshole!
But yeah, we've both given Smash Run several chaances now, it just aint for us I guess. Luckily, Classic, StreetPass, and regular Smash are hella fun!

I would love the Famicast to be on Zune, does that mean XBone users could shout "XBOX, FAMICAST ME" and then the latest episode would start playing?
