Project Cars didn't even chart! Were the bulk of their sales in Europe?

It probably did sell a lot in Europe, given the popularity of the genre there, but I'd say it's also pretty likely that a lot of the sales it got were digital downloads, which wouldn't show up in the NPDs.

The pie factory reported that Cars was within shouting distance of FFX/X-2 PS4 (the HD remake of an HD remake) at roughly 60k. Between PC and Europe, that's probably your difference.

What is this madness? Does Rhythm Heaven cause this much of a boost? Splatoon is still boosting Wii U sales, but that's because it's selling like hot damn hotcakes in Japan (I would know, I've been frequenting retail spaces)

New 3DS LL – 19,620
Wii U – 16,413
PS4 – 10,822
Vita – 10,797
New 3DS – 4,329
PS3 – 2,633
3DS – 943
3DS LL – 880
Vita TV – 566
Xbox One – 100

Software charts:

1. [3DS] Rhythm Heaven: The Best Plus – 157,591 / NEW
2. [3DS] Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden – 74,660 / NEW
3. [WIU] Splatoon – 53,198 / 266,929
4. [PSV] The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC Evolution – 20,484 / NEW

Splatoon numbers are just insane :().  Japanese gamers tend to avoid shooters like the plague but this one might hit the 1/2 million mark.

Wonder what the NA sales are, Nintendo has a quarterly report due in a few days so we might actual get those numbers for MAY.

Recent Call of Duty and Battlefield games regularly sale for 100k.

Resident Evil 5 and 6 were million sellers.

Judging by abundance of japanese names in online population, western sales aren't that good.

I don't see why they feel the need to dub all of the songs into like 6 different languages, if it's not economical to do so just release it with Japanese songs. I will be disgusted if this FIRST PARTY project was green lit with no intention of ever localising it. I shall wait with bated breath for the next Nintendo Direct...

I really wanted Fire Emblem to bomb due to that "pay" per arc crap they are pulling.  Also Nintendo only printed a very small amount of special editions (they were sold out weeks ago).

Capcom was called all kinds of names with Street Fighter X Tekken but it looks like Disc locked content is going become more of a norm now.

White/Black arcs are on the same cart/physical download (files sizes are the same), not sure about the 3rd Arc since it's not available yet.

Not sure why Media Create combined the two versions. Would loved to see how split the two versions were.  Special Edition comes with all three arcs.

It seems kinda weird to me that the default reaction for a lot of people is "I hope this thing bombs" rather than "I hope there's enough content to justify releasing the game this way." If the game bombs in the West (I never thought this would make a significantly negative impact in Japan), that doesn't really accomplish anything other than possibly jeopardizing the series' future here. That's in no way a good thing. If there's two (or three) games worth of content, everybody's happy. Like I said, kinda weird that some people are hoping for the former and not the latter.

I'd get it if it was something super egregious, but I've heard nary a whisper about either version feeling short since it came out. Granted, it's only been a week, but if people are already starting fan translations, I'm sure plenty have gotten through the game(s) as well.

The third arc is set to be released in the middle of July as a download. Cynically, a ploy to discourage used game sales.

I find it odd to want a game to bomb due to an ambitious and questionable offering and pricing structure. At least to say it before it is known how much is at what price. Then again, I never want to be so precious over a game or game series in such a way. If it's over the principle of the matter, then I just want to leave.

Good job to Fire Emblem if. Hope you're worth it.

I'd like Fire Emblem to bomb because the series has taken steps towards being something that isn't fun.

If I really wanted it to bomb, though, I'd just push for a Wii U release. HA!

Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn cinched Fire Emblem as a portable series going forward. The Wii U could've been the second coming of the PS2 and it still wouldn't be touching consoles with a 39.5 foot pole.

Interesting to see that sales number split between the 2 versions; I myself will still go with the conquest version but according to some Japanese gaming friends of mine the conquest storyline is the weaker of the two. They said at the time you were asked to choose path, there is really little reason for you to side with the Black Kingdom in which the story afterwards just doesn’t “feel right”. If that is true it surely is disappointing.
That aside, I too find the “hope it bombs” mentality mind-boggling. The hostility towards this game seems to be mainly associated with 2 issues. The main one is of course the two-version thing, and I have to say the unfair/incorrect/misleading analogy to Pokémon is really stirring a great deal of uninformed hate. No one is forcing anyone to buy both versions, remember? If you don’t find the two versions different enough, why not just buy one? You don’t lose much in that case. If you consider the two versions to be different enough and you really must experience both, you buy the DLC for the other path and you basically pay for about 1.5 games and get 2. Both versions can get everything the other version has by DLC (again, if you feel the need to), there’s absolutely no practical reason to “get tricked by Nintendo/IS and pay $40 * 2”. It is NOTHING like Pokémon. Don’t get me wrong, I myself don’t like the two-version strategy either; I’m just saying it doesn’t deserve that much hate as it is not an unfair value proposition in any case.
Then there are also the overly amine and otaku (which is by the way, started by Awakening) features and content. I too dislike them but as long as they are kept optional or do not affect game play, I’m going to ignore them like they don’t even exist. I just don’t see the “I don’t like the direction this franchise is heading” as a reason to hope FE Fates to bomb. The bottom line is: don’t like the game? Don’t buy it. There is no need to hope it bomb so that the 300k or so people who are actually willing to buy it don’t get to enjoy it.
That said, I will now present you what you actually should be angry or sad upon. Firstly, as more info emerges, it is getting clearer that the 3rd path DLC is likely going to be what I feared, the “best ending” where you don’t have to make the “difficult choice” of which of 2 camps to slaughter, but rather, unite them to fight the “true evil”, making the 2 existing paths pretty much pointless story-wise. Great.
Secondly, to me, great sales number for Fates spells death for any future console installments of the franchise. I have played every single entry of the FE franchise and I love all of them. However, I have to say the console installments generally have way higher production values than the handheld counterparts; it will be sad to see them go because they have way lower sales. I still won’t hope FE Fates to bomb just because of this though.

The overt-anime stylings started with Awakening, true, and I found them annoying and unbearable there too. A series that used to have somewhat decent characters that felt a little bit less centered around one character trait was a nice thing for a strategy game.

This goes to ridiculous lengths, however, as the characters are even separated into more stereotypical archetypes.

Welcome to our forums, Ninferno!

I agree this should not be compared to Pokemon versions. Those ultimately were the same game, just with different monsters available. I would hope these games also have different plots, options, items, and characters (we know there will be different characters).

I hope the 3rd arc is more than a "true ending". I like the idea of allowing you to refuse both sides, strike out on your own, and have opportunities to recruit characters from both sides as you build your own dynasty. More of a "choose your own adventures" style game.

It's the Oracle Zelda games, except you can get a discount on the 2nd game if you own the 1st.
