While advertising was "more of an afterthought" on the Xbox 360, the Xbox One "is going to have advertising in mind," according to a technical account manager StickTwiddlers talked to. "So a lot of the limitations that we have now, hopefully the release of the boundaries will be widened so the opportunities will be a lot greater.”

i love how people are complaining about people who have gyroid basements and nintendo/balloon themed rooms in their streetpass homes

Again with opinions as facts. I rarely post here and not once have I made that statement. I play games on my PC and on Nintendo game consoles. If third parties want my money they have to support the Wii U or PC and if they don't I'm not going to cry about it. My money will go to Nintendo and 3rd parties that do.

considering how utterly absurd some items are to get (getting a functional ABD for your house requires you to store 100,000,000 bells in the bank,) it isn't all bad.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Trademarks May Indicate a New Seaman Game

Considering how cash strapped SEGA is at this point does anyone think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to finance Shenmue 3 as a Wii U exclusive?

Strapped for cash? In 201 they made a profit of $218 million. Not a huge amount, but still profit. Since they have no interest in Seaman though, they might do it for that reason
i didn't know sega has been around for 1,812 years :D

anyways this postgresql thing is obviously going to be the bigger problem....(apparently it isn't widely supported
is it possible to have somebody take the code for one of these mods and optimize it for our forums.

They have to work with our version of the forums and database. I've already tried several karma system mods (those included), but they don't support Postgresql or they're for outdated versions of the forums.
so we are looking to support this Postgresql doohicky and based on your statement these forums are likely running on at least smf v2.0(as I assumed looking at the smf update logs)

it helps that you know the ins and outs of the forums on a technical side while we have to rely on guesswork, anything else we should look for ;)

i would still say go as high end as you can.(futureproofing and all) 4gb storage isn't too bad but i'd go for at least 8 tbh

what are you planning to use it for? thats always important when getting a smartphone.

So, I just did some reading, and the only way to get homes in the HHS are through Streetpass?  I drove around with my 3DS yesterday and picked up a couple, but I thought I got them from adding some FC here (I happened to add two people right before I discovered I had two people in my HHS).  I guess I'll have to drive around with my 3DS some more.

Is there a way to share the houses?  This one I got has a main room that is gorgeous.  I'll try to take a screenshot lately.

in the US/EU they are being released through spotpass as well

NWR Feedback / Re: Ignore option?
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:54:47 PM »
Slow down there, Pokepal. He never once said the ignore option was for him or that he wanted to use it on you. In fact, the original post of the thread shows the reason he asked about it was for other people to use no doubt in hopes that people will make less complaints about other posters if they don't see them and he doesn't have to deal with as many complaints. That's how I took it.

But I'm like you. I don't mind getting different views even if I don't always agree with them. However, I take a different of stance of just not bothering to respond or argue with somebody about them for the most part.
i'm trying to move there as well. isn't always easy.

But it would be better overall to PM the user with complaints(or to integrate the feedback thing i put on the karma thread and utilize that) then to try to outright ignore them. An ignore feature should be seen as a last resort.

my search of the smf database has found me some interesting karma mods.

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3474
if i understand this correctly it move the karma buttons to each individual post and then count what was given for each one

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1129
a full on replacement system.

yeesh am I really that bad?

you know you really are tempting me to take back everything i said about you. :(

but in all seriousness the forums are just so small that ignoring one or two users could cause you to miss out on a huge part of a conversation.

everyone is a part of this forum in some way and everyone has their own ideas to bring to the table.

it is better in my experience to stand strong when faced by a person you don't like then to try to shove them into a corner and look the other way.

in middle school i was bullied relentlessly. the horrors i faced there were downright traumatizing. do i wish i could have not had that experience? yes. but at the same time i know that those experiences have changed me in ways that will follow me to the grave.

for example last year i took a class on sociology(absolutely fascinating area). many of my classmates struggled with understanding some of these ideas and it was when we reached the unit on Social Sanctions i realized why. my classmates were born, raised, and ultimately sheltered, in a small private school system, whereas i had been thrown into the public school system for three years. i had seen two sides of the coin that deals with society and youth.

my point is that running away from a person who you don't like is the wrong answer. If you can face that person and try to cope with whatever you don't like about them(which is much more easy to do when you don't want to hear their voice) then you will be the better man for it. you may even learn something from that person.

the guys seem to have different occupations, is it set up so that each one has different abilitys such as maybe Captain Charlie is better at commanding Pikmin in battle(boosting their stats) Alph the engineer is better at building stuff and destroying obstacles, while Brittany the botanist's group is better at getting more pikmin from the onion ships(and boosts their ability to carry stuff)

i actually enjoy american dad... king of the hill always seemed so slow to me and with family guy the skits were a nice change of pace until they were just overdone. american dad just seems like a much more well developed show then family guy.

“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
― Benjamin Franklin

Before we begin i would like to make two statements,

firstly that i do not want any form of disrespect from either side. i ask that the moderators do not prematurely close this thread and that regular posters do not try to badmouth the moderators. diplomacy is a delicate situation

and second, that the goal of this thread is to brainstorm solutions to this problem that will meet the approval of both sides. this is a form of diplomacy.

the mods do not want a repeat of the Tlon/SUPER mess

And we don't want to lose our ability to edit posts.

i propose a certain comprimise in this area...

Quote
this gane looks very interesting

if a user merely wishes to fix a typo then this could be handled by a system which tracks how much the post can be edited. the previous post has 28 characters, i wish to edit one of them because while i was typing my finger slipped on to the wrong key. if a user wishes to make a small edit like that they should not encounter any problems.
Quote
this game looks very interesting

however perhaps a user wishes to expand on a post of theirs... for example
Quote
this game looks very interesting. i am not quite sure if i will pick it up yet but if everything shapes up well it will be a day one purchase

this could be handled by a system in which after a certain threshold has been reached of how much a post has been changed it would be placed under the scrutiny of moderators, using a system similar to the warning level system already seen on the site in the forum rules.

Quote
At level 1(default) a post that is edited to a certain threshold(such as a character limit or precentage of a post that has been edited) will be placed on a watched list. This means that every post they make will be under the scrutiny of all moderators.

At Level 2 any post that has been edited by a user must be approved by a moderator before it becomes visible on the site. Any user who has misused their ability to edit posts or has been placed on a 25 precent warning level will be automatically placed here.

At level 3 a user will be unable to edit posts altogether. this user has been deemed unable to be trusted with the responsibility of editing a post in any way whatsoever.

now theoretically a user could modify a post multiple times one character at a time in order to allow them to change the post to something less pleasant to the conversation. i could edit my post 11 times(one character each) in order to get this:

Quote
this FREE SUPER game looks very interesting
this could be handled by limiting the number of times a post can be edited.

so what do you guys think, is this feasible on the moderation side, is this acceptable to other posters? please leave any comments you have

@megabyte, in response to your closing post in the last thread, yes it is

1. there is no way to know how the forums react to a statement until you have made it.

2. tell that to the several talkback threads where one of the first posts is somebody pointing out a typo in the article. as a fellow journalist,(yes i am in the School Newspaper and I am a better writer then I am a poster) and especially with your job as an editor you must realize that sometimes people make mistakes and that they don't see them until they are pointed out to them. sometimes a person may after posting something think "oh i should have elaborated on this point or said more about that"

With that in mind I wish to enter a open and RESPECTFUL dialogue.

so we all suffer because of two idiots and their childish pranks...

SUPER should not have had control of that thread... it should have been transferred to unclebob or someone the moment he was relieved of his duties...

and if what I'm hearing about tlon and his actions is correct then that just points to a problem with your thread merging system....(understandable, those things happen)

but the first one is absolutely pure incompetence... and we should not be made to suffer for it...

I think even if in that particular instance he was beating a dead horse he still is hands down the person I feel I can respect and trust the most as a moderator

insano's crazy superstition that karma is a good idea puts him second

crimm is dead last.... when you make a post about mothers having weather effects you have fallen down a very slippery slope... but I suppose that is crimm for you
