General Gaming / Re: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection for PS3
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:24:02 PM »
The funny thing is this--more than any other game--is what might get me to eventually buy a PS3.

Is it because of the visual improvement of the games, especially Shadow?

Yeah, I've never played either of them, but they're both on my bucket list.  But after all the horrible things I've read about Shadow's frame rate, I think I'd be much better off playing the PS3 version.  Don't really care about up-resing or anything like that.

Yeah with Shadow, I REALLY was enjoying the game both visually and gameplay wise, but as soon as you got into a battle it would chug in places, really ripped me out of the experience.

Besides being ripped out of the experience, it made some of the bosses (or levels, really) harder than they needed to be. The final boss, in particular, required more timed button presses - and that was by far the slowest the frame rate got.

I hate to be double dipped with re-releases, but this is very tempting.

Can we get a title change for the thread?

Also here is some more info that I found.

Hmm...using the brightness of Link's sword to find treasure...limited stamina meter for climbing/running.  Some of this kind of reminds me a little of Shadow of the Colossus.

I thought the same. It'll be interesting to see these elements at work in a more expanded game than Shadow of the Colossus, especially in regards to puzzles. SotC leaves you wanting more - but maybe for the better, when the alternative is to allow the exploration to become tedious.

I'll probably check it out. I wonder if my credit from the Metroid Other M pre-order will be available right away?

I got my credit today. Waiting for a good lightning deal...

And I'm pretty sure Famitsu gave the game a higher score than any of the prime trilogy, though I could be wrong.

Banzai! Banzai! Banzai!

I thought that meant that they would be selecting one winner per day, as there are 10 winners and the 12th through 21st includes 10 days total. Seems intended to reward people who enter early by giving them more chances with one entry. Or it is a typo and I did all that super-hard research for nothing.

A condom, out of necessity.

Also my work uniform: Black everything (cuz we want you to leave your dining/hotel experience emotionally depressed).

All the hatin' on P-burgh. As much as I want to see Fitzgerald get an early title, the Cardinals aren't gonna win this one.

And I'm going to let the douche bag comment slide, on account of Ben's overwhelming douche baggery.

Or am I out for making a pun?

This is a cigar, by the way. All the best tobacco products are shaped like penises, though, right?

This is an ejaculating penis.

B======Ð~~~~ :o

Notice the anatomically descriptive use of the Icelandic 'Eth' character.

At least half of that list is legal in Pennsyl-vania/tucky.

I thought the point of that model was simply to hold the Wiimote at a more comfortable angle. The legitimizing of wearing a suit and leather gloves while playing your Wii is secondary.

It would be on-screen reticle friendly. Looks like you could pistol-waggle with it effectively, also. Might be worth a try for Umbrella Chronicles.

Just looking at the first 20-or-so titles in the list, there's a surprising diversity to the library so far. And not having to buy the Cube component cable for $70 offsets the rebuy of Zelda and RE. Might have to plunge....

I just hope I don't feel too sore when I get DPed by Metal Gear and ICO, needing to justify the 1080p-120Hz-xvColor-etc LCD I finally caved on.

Are you saying that it is? Or that I was saying that it is? I'm not saying that it is. Okami looks bombz. SMG, of course. But is the list much longer than that? I'm sort of (pretty much) echoing BnM's thoughts. Should I stay a hermitic retro-grouch, or embrace the gimmick?

I still haven't played all the way through Twilight Princess. Yes, I win the The-F-Behind-On-Games award. Should I finish it on GC, should I buy a Wii and play that version? Are there really so few must-play games this far into the next gen?

I don't want to buy a PS3 just for Metal Gear. Please make a case for the Wii. Thanks.

General Chat / Re: School

I'm still in school. I started late as hell though, because I just never got my life going till the past couple years. I finally settled on a 'biotech' career, where education=money, so I'll probably never stop attending some form of school. I'm working full-time also, just to have health insurance (USA! USA! USA!). Doing full-time work on top of school is a bitch. I don't have any time to play video games. But when I go to the ER, or have some kind of surgery, I'll only get raped half as hard.

If I'm casually listening I don't notice. And that's probably helped by conditioning from interadio. But listening properly through my amp reveals artifacting.

Radiohead's manager agrees with me. CDs are, like, the most awesomest audio format ever. And should cost $50 a pop.

Her bra would have burned off under that intensity of heat, protecting her mammae in the process and leaving them in perfect condition. Totally unrealistic. Bonus points for The Brick.

I have nothing against the cuisine that fast food attempts to copy, just everything else about it. I'm always down for a burger, and I don't fall for that Charbucks crap either. Viva Italia! I suppose for some it is elitism, but I genuinely loathe the food and ethics of fast food corporations. And really, Starbucks coffee tastes like carbonized arsehole.

I do still find myself eating at fast-food megachains occasionally. There's a general dearth of good restaurants in this city, and even less in my neighborhood. If I can help it I take food with me when I'm going into the danger zone (the mall area). For the same price as fast-food that is edible (such as Arby's) you can get better stuff from a local. There's no excuse if an alternative is availible.
