Thanks to everyone who showed up to watch me embarrass myself. That was the first time I'd played anything online on the Wii. (I've wanted to, but I just know the first time I take my kids online, Greg's friend C**tface will show up... I've already met up with "F*** You" and "USA R GAY" (complete with burning flag avatar) on MarioKart DS. Thanks, guys, for screwing it up for the rest of us with kids.)

Anyhoo, it was great meeting up with you lads and a kick to see the Wii's globe/Mii functionality. How cool to see giant NWR Miis stomping whole cities. Peace Through Kart.™

I-play-guitar-and-you-don't

OK, I do play guitar, and I sincerely love this review. I love that these games are getting people into guitar, and even better that they're getting into *guitars*: body styles, neck widths, etc. Part of the fun of getting into guitar is finding what's right for you and appreciating those differences.

If gamers ever get tired of arguing Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero, they can always get into Fender vs. Gibson arguments instead.

I might buy one of these just 'cause I'm a huge Tele fan.

Do you always face your opponent (like in most fighting games) or are you able to run around and look anyway you want (like in Smash Bros)?

That leather-and-chain clad Simon Belmont looks like he could be taken from behind without too much effort.

The kids these days, they love that crazy 3D and motion control!

And peripherals! Quick, someone develop plastic fangs with motion sensors in them!

Lest Greg worry that his maidenhood is at risk, rest assured that I'm happily married, safely ensconced on another continent, and quite certain that the closest I'll come to buggery is a rousing game of Bugdom 2 on the Mac.

I am a great and sincere fan, though, of Mr. Leahy's keen gaming insight and vast vocabulary; anyone who can work "interregnum" and "meritocratic" into a gaming podcast has my respect. (Just for reference, the clerk at my local Target store nearly had to be hospitalized after trying to pronounce "Madagascan vanilla" for a price check last week.)

I remember making character models for half-life there was a 1000 polygon limit per character, 256 color textures only.

Wow, I remember making character models on my old TI-99/4A computer: 1 color and an 8 x 8 pixel grid, a la Space Invaders or Berserk. And WE LIKED IT that way.

You kids get off my lawn!

Haha, I don't think I'll be able to find a pole long enough to touch this with.

I think MadCatz is coming out with a white plastic 20-foot pole peripheral just for this game.

Ouch.

I've been trying to teach my 9-year-old some guitar, and 100 percent of the satisfaction for him is rising to the challenge and hitting the right notes at the right time (like playing the piano in Brain Age). I just do not see the appeal of this at all.

I would consider buying Wii Music if they'd change the title to Wii Clusterf***.

And the DS spinoff could be My Clusterf*** Training.

« on: July 17, 2008, 09:52:08 AM »
Hasn't Pikmin always had a more casual side to it?

I dunno... that final boss in Pikmin 2 kicked my scrawny behind like few others have. So many dead Pikmin littering the battlefield... the horror... Not to mention those levels where the tripods/gun turrets send you crouching behind those few metal barriers for cover.

My daughter won't play it... the second a red bulborb starts chowing down on even one of her cute little Pikmin, she leaps for the Reset button. (She's 13...and complained that Burton's Sweeny Todd "wasn't bloody enough.")

I still don't own a Wii, but Pikmin 3 might push me over the edge; the only game that's come as close in the hype department for me is Brawl.

His man-beam's gonna be offline for hours.

What the hell's going on at 23:06?

At first it sounded like an old impact printer, then a squeaky chair, and then someone beating to death a giant fly that landed on the microphone.

Is everyone OK?

Something about hearing that "1, 2, 3, Clap" sync technique really disturbs me... it's like listening in on some sort of pitiful drum circle.

I, for one, REFUSE to believe that Metroids are extinct. The Universe is a big place.

Well, they could go "Jurassic Park" on us and have someone (maybe the Galactic Federation this time) splice some Metroid DNA with a bigass jellyfish to revive the species for weaponization purposes (a la Aliens). Samus could then come out of retirement to hop around the ruins of said park and lay waste to the Jellytroids.

Is there anyone here who hasn't watched Johnny Chung Lee's Wii head tracking video yet?

I heard "3D space" and got a little, uh, prematurely excited that this might be the enhanced controller.
