Hardware sales for 3DS also see an uptick.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/38800/super-smash-bros-for-3ds-sells-big-in-north-america

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS managed to sell over 705,000 copies in its first two days on North American shelves.

Despite launching on October 3, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS managed to push enough copies to become the fourth best-selling SKU in September's NPD sales chart. 135,000 of those copies were sold digitally through Nintendo's eShop, which accounts for over 19% of the sales.

The lead-up to the launch also saw a jump in 3DS hardware sales. Between the three different versions of the system, over 140,000 units were sold during the month of September, which is a 55% increase over August.

That's it?  Considering the difference in the market size between here and Japan.  That is sort of disappointing.

I'd wager a lot more people in the west have been holding off for the Wii U game. Since handhelds are king there, the 3DS version's the main one there.

I'd say it is pretty clear the free demo for the game hurt sales. People were able to see the game wasn't worth buying or else they are happy with the characters provided in the demo and didn't feel the need to pay $40.00 for a bunch of clone characters. Hopefully, Nintendo learns from this and prevents such demos from happening in the future.

i normally buy box copies, but Smash bros 3ds i bought digital, its a game that you always want ready and i don't see trading it in or lending it.
So i'm one of the 139,000 on day one.   ;D

You're probably joking, but the demo actually did convince me to skip buying the game, at least for now. I'll probably get it when it goes on sale though.

How can I be joking when that's what actually happened? I'm clearly stating fact and that isn't humorous at all.

Funny thing is, some people paid that just for the demo.

Isn't it obvious?  Smash is on handheld is a HORRIBLE idea.  Not to mention people know that the online is laggy as hell, might break your 3DS, screen is too small unless you're using an XL, and even then it's still not very good.

I think this was a horrible idea to release smash on a 3DS.   Hell and even now they're gonna bring Xenoblade to their new 3DS ****, which is also a game that is gonna go to the **** on a portable. not to mention you have to buy a all new handheld that does pretty much the same thing as the regular 3DS to play it.

How?  Unless you're playing one on one, preferably with friends the crap's unplayable.  I know it's not my fault cause I can play League of Legends and Kid Icarus online just fine, my ping is only like 20m, and it still can't play smash online without lagging heavily.

Really disappointed with that.  I wish I could take the game back, I can't even use it for what I wanted it for.
This is the second time they fudk'ed up with the online, Brawl was borderline unusable, and Smash 3DS isn't much better to be honest.   Hopefully they get it right with the Wii U version, but I highly doubt it, I can tell it'll suck by how they're advertising us to buy an adapter for it.

Honestly it isn't that bad.

*gasp* an RPG on a Nintendo handheld? What a crazy idea. I don't see how that could possibly go well I mean what a crazy idea.

How do you 'do the ****' I do not understand that analogy.

I doubt the new 3DS version of xenoblade will be as good as the Wii version just because of the 3ds screen messing with your visual quality but people will actually be able to obtain the 3DS version at a decent price.

To each his own, as someone who still has a launch 3DS I see a New 3DS XL as a fairly nice upgrade.

No man, the shoulder buttons WILL break with overuse, especially if you're a big person with large hands.  It's  not worth it to upgrade to a bigger model that's far less portable just for one game.
