It's gotten me more better games than I could adbsorb last gen.  But gaming died when the PS2 came out, so it's all relative.

I could agree with both of your points.  The gamecube was a much better machine than the wii to me although the market differs in my opinion.  Although third parties largely ignored the machine, I always felt like I had something worthwhile to play.  Maybe I'm just reaching that age when gaming isn't my thing anymore.  I'm actually a Nintendo fanboy.  I'd just like someone around here to see that Nintendo isn't perfect with their approach to gaming.  But every time I state they could be doing something better, I get $20 billion disagrees with you, or 50 million Wiis sold disagrees with you.  Not exactly thought provoking.

Clarification:  I have more better games this gen than last gen.

You don't have to be a perfect company to be wildly entertaining within gaming and outside gaming.

We all know Nintendo did great this generation, but Sony has done okay in my mind this generation.

Your mind is immaterial to the discussion.  Sony's bled out billions and squandered their ENTIRE Playstation1 and Playstation 2 profits in 3 years.  That is an undisputed catastrophe, period.

Quote
Nintendogs may have been the downfall of the PSP.  But the PSP is most successful console launch of this era.

Err, what?  No.  Wii's had to most successful console launch this "era."

Quote
50 million in sales is nothing to laugh at and the PSP did outsell the DS in it's launch year.

That's just not true.  DS led PSP in Japan for 2004-2005 and the DS was out in America, Europe and Japan in 2004, with the PSP delayed to 2005 in America and Japan.  And 50 millions sales is plenty to "laugh at" when they still bleed out money.

Quote
Your talking games division.  I was talking Sony Consolidated.

I don't think you understand that, if Sony's continues to bleed out money like this, through their games division, and the recession worsens, and this division is seen as a drag on profits (which would be almost a billion without the games division, which would be great for goodnews hungry investors), they WILL spin it out or kill it off.  That's why the division's losses are also important by themselves.

Quote
But every time I state they could be doing something better, I get $20 billion disagrees with you, or 50 million Wiis sold disagrees with you.  Not exactly thought provoking.

And everytime somebody says, rightly, that without a major restructuring or massive cuts to its game division, Sony is basically screwed in the games market for the near future, you say something like "Oh Sony's not in that bad a position, I mean HD graphics will win the day and a $300 redesign of an unpopular system will turn it all around."  That's not exactly intellectually stimulating, either.
It's time you saw the future while you still have human eyes.

Truth is every Nintendo fan thinks Nintendo could be doing better, and every singe gamer on this board probably thinks Nintendo could be doing something better. But then Nintendo shows up with $20Bilion in profit and reminds us that we have no fucking clue as to what the hell we are talking about.

We want things like More Games, more "core" games, more VC games, more downloadable games, better marketing for deserved games, more online games, better online structure, a legit HDD option for Wii, more colors, more options, more Mario, less mario, etc, etc. we all think Nintendo could be doing something better, but what we think doesn't seem to really matter because here we are: Wii next to the TV, DS on the table, dozens of games for either system & there is Nintendo with $20BILLION DOLLARS in the bank while Iwata: (laughs)

most of us are tired of arguing the point. Nintendo will do what Nintendo will do & what Nintendo does will be best for Nintendo. Not you. not me. not us (the vocal minority). Most of us are over it.

BNM has a point, Nintendo has proven over the last decade they know how to make money. They've shown they probably know what they are doing more then Sony or MS.

Probably?  I don't think anyone can argue against the long-term profits Nintendo's generated.  And that's the real judge of any business.  Let me ask you: in 5 years which company (or division) do you think will most likely be no longer?  I'd have to say SCE.  Microsoft seems more likely to support their xbox division, even if unprofitable.  Either way, I'm confident that only one of those two will survive through 2020.  I'm supremely confident that Nintendo will be there, as is there is nothing to suggest they won't be.  And that's essentially my point.

I honestly think Sony is going to make a comeback with their upcoming lineup. It totally kicks Xbox's ass!

Well not for me, but in the mainstream its going to do a lot for Sony.

Uncharted 2 is DA SHATZ!

Grand Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, Team Eco's new game, ect.... Sony has a better exclusive line up than Microsofts which includes... wait for .... Halo.... (Halo SUCKS!)

Just think, some of Sony's biggest franchises haven't even reached the PS3 yet. Also Final Fantasy 14 is exclusive.

The first Uncharted only did OK in sales. The last Gran Turismo game did pretty poorly and really only appeals to Sony diehard fans, the people who already own a PS3. Heavy Rain will be lucky if it doesn't bomb. Team Ico's game will sell OK, but not to casual gamers who don't own a PS3 yet. That line of "their biggest franchises" is what Sony fanboys have been saying since launch, and it hasn't been true. As for Final Fantasy XIV, that is a long way away and it's just gonna be another MMO. Final Fantasy did mediocre sales and I don't see XIV being different.

IOW the PS3 has ALWAYS been JUST before the big breakthrough. By now expecting that to happen is like waiting for Duke Nukem Forever. Unreleased games always sound better than any released game.

As for the Wii game situation, my Wii shelf is about to hit its limit, I can only fit maybe 3 more games on there. Oh, wait, I haven't put Geometry Wars Galaxies and Punch Out on that shelf... While Nintendo's releases are sparse I don't think that's a deliberate choice on their part since they can only make so many games by themselves, they need third parties to fill those gaps and the third parties aren't doing so, only slowly waking up to it.

Holy Barnicles! Just watching Sony go down and down, and Nintendo go up and up is really something! But its so odd. It's like Nintendo found a Genie, and said "we want our wii and system to sell far more than our competitors by a wide margine" but what they forgot to mention was that they wanted allot of great games to go with it it. So the genie gave them amazing sells numbers, but left them to develop games at their own slow but super high standard pace, which is good and bad but you know what I mean.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.
