Ghost Recon Online Postponed Indefinitely on Wii U

Development for the Wii U has been put "on hold" while Ubisoft puts all efforts into the PC launch.

Free-to-play multiplayer shooter, Ghost Recon Online, has ceased production on Wii U, Ubisoft has announced.

Unveiled and demoed during E3 2011, the Wii U version is no longer in development so that the team at Ubisoft Shanghai can concentrate on the PC version, which launched in August. Although this does not necessarily mean it will never be released for Nintendo's new system, the game's future on home consoles is currently undecided.

"As of right now, the entire Ghost Recon team is focused on the PC version only. The Wii U version is on hold," said producer Theo Sanders.

"It's not a reaction to anything specific happening to [Wii U]. It was really fun, cool platform to develop for. But you realize once you launch an online service that it's an all-consuming effort, so we really wanted to have all hands on deck."

I'm starting to doubt this will ever come to the WiiU. I want it to, and I will play it and probably drop $60 worth of money into it eventually, but they're feeling the stress of an on-line game. It's always running and always going to have problems. Unlike a disc-game where once you're done, you're done. You can focus on something else.

We'll see though. I'm just not going to hold my breath.
