Pretty sweet numbers for Labo. I wonder if Nintendo will do some kind of promotion in a month or so to get everyone who bought the variety pack to try the robot one. The extra price and time commitment to building the thing might've put some people off buying it in favor of the variety pack.

Alright, be honest, did anyone here actually buy Labo? I will admit to having bought an e-reader and loving every minute of it. However I was skeptical of Labo from the start. I considered if I got any it would be the piano one.

Making #4 in April doesn't exactly equate to selling a lot of games. The Walmart nearby still has every intital Labo kit in stock, minus possibly one variety kit.

Breath of the Wild inches closer to the 1,000,000 mark in Japan. Most likely crosses it in two weeks time which is rare for a Zelda game to do in Japan.

If you add in the Wii U number it's already past it. But yes a million seller on Switch alone in Japan would be well-deserved.

These charts don't show digital for the Switch or Wii U so when you combine it all, it's probably closer to 1.2 million by now. This means it's outsold Link to the Past which did over 1.1 million in Japan. So right now it's probably the 4th best selling Zelda in Japan, behind only Ocarina of Time which did 1.4 million and the NES games which both did 1.6 million.

Depending on the legs these next few years it might have a chance to surpass them all, which is pretty crazy when you think about it. A big reason Nintendo changed the series into a more linear direction with Wind Waker is because they thought the series was too complicated for Japanese audiences, even though most of the games in the series at that time were million sellers already in Japan. The popularity then started to fall in Japan after that and now 20 years later when they go the opposite direction, the series regains its popularity again in Japan and could have a chance of being more popular then ever. All they had to do was literally the opposite of what they had been this whole time.

I would argue that Zelda's complexity is the franchise's hook. This is the series where you play the individual notes on the Ocarina because it's more fun then just selecting a song from a menu. So, yeah, moving away from the core element that makes the series popular in the first place and then watching to sales fall only for them to rise back up when you reintroduce it makes perfect sense. The original Zelda was arguably the most complicated and deep NES game there was at the time of its release. Those that wanted linear gameplay were playing Super Mario Bros and Mega Man.
