Topic: What do you guys think of Mario Kart 8?

I'm pretty sure it destroys any item around you including bananas that are on the track (and blue shells).  The problem is this item is so damn hard to get.

...And Keep.  IF I get one it tends to be the 2nd lap and there is a good chance that I'm going to be Lightning bolted between that and the Blue Shell.

Yeah, and lightning isn't something you can see coming either.

Lightning in this game is a little broken.  I think they should have changed to a random 3.  You always spin but it will either:

1) Knock your Item out
2) Shrink you
3) Knock the Coins out of you

Right now it does all of that and isn't dodge-able from what I can tell.  The only thing it has going for it is everyone but the thrower gets hit.

Can you banana peel/oil slick recover in this game? I can't remember how to do it, if you can do it at all.

In MK64 you would just tap the breaks. I've only tried once or twice (come on, how hard is it to avoid banana peels) but haven't been able to, if it is possible at all.

And if you have a star activated, you're immune to the lightning bolt.

I've beaten 50cc, about 3 trophies in on 100cc, and did about 5 attempts at 150cc and I have not gotten a Star yet.  I did get on on the internet play though.

Coins increase your top speed during the race. You max out at 10, but even after 10 are in the bank your speed still goes up, very slightly though.

My first impressions are mixed. The tracks are great and the presentation is excellent, but everything else feels a bit sloppy and unpolished. Some things could be fixed/changed in a patch (and hopefully will be), but others I'm probably just going to have to live with. I'll stick with it and see if my feelings change.

I'm enjoying it. I do wish there were more tracks, I wonder if there will be any DLC. Finally, the super Horn is my new best friend!
