TalkBack / Re: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Review
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:25:19 PM »
I bought the game not knowing it supported circle pad pro, and have been playing through it (I just got to The End) without the CPP, and I haven't found any real problems. Perhaps the only time I found myself furiously pining for controls tighter than what could be offered by default, was when I screwed up something awful and tons of enemy soldiers were mobbing me, but that should be a thing you don't want to encounter in the game anyway, so I don't really see the problem.

That being said, based on this review, I think I'll go pick up a CPP.

EDIT: Upon reading thesignpainter's post, I feel he really sums up my feelings everything better than I did

I'm not sure that I would agree that there are no games worth buying for 3DS coming out for two months. Bit.Trip is just a couple days out, and Cave Story 3D is right around the corner. Both ports, but at least they aren't from the N64 era, and they do add something.

Trying to decide between Saga or Cave Story 3D for my first 3DS cartridge. (though Zelda is only $30 on Amazon right now) Any suggestions?

So the Club Nintendo pouches really are worth getting? Red or Blue?

After a day of having mine, I started to get nervous about scratching the outside of it (my old SP just looks horrible) and stuck it in an old Pikachu Gameboy Color case, in which it fits perfectly. Here's a photo I found with google of the case.

I got my 3DS with the price drop on the 11th at Wal Mart, rushing home, knowing that due to the time difference where I live, I only had 20 minutes to connect to the eShop to be eligible. I booted up the 3DS to find that it didn't come with current firmware, and I needed to update. I tried, but it kept failing. My time was up. The next morning I booted it up to try again, just for kicks. I found that I set the clock wrong (didn't convert to military) and that was the problem. I updated and got the eShop, but it was a bittersweet victory, I didn't meet the August 12th deadline. I sent an email to NOA customer support to see if they could throw me a bone, and got an email back saying that they were working with things and I'd get a reply by the end of the week. A day after this Serial Checker surfaced, I got 2(from different reps, not sure why, both form letters) saying I should check out my code to see if I'm eligible, and somehow, I made it. So yeah, I'm getting the 20 free games and I got the discount, which I probably would have never thought to do unless it had been mentioned on RFN.

After seeing the part of the presentation with the stylus, all I want is Photoshop on Wii U. It does support USB Externals and sd cards.

I've been playing more Radiant Historia since listening to this episode, I'm around 10 hours in and I finally understand James' aching over the character and his arm parts. I really couldn't  agree about how little use he is in battle. But the game is still incredible.

I'm thinking that this may have been planned for the future, but was perhaps done now due to the Wii 2 stuff that's been floating about.

Place your bets! What comes first;
The announcement of the winners
or
The delayed Pokemon Global Link (http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/25794) launches.

Also, if we go to the Funhouse for judging/ridicule, we are admitting defeat. That is the last option.

Well, I'll give it to NWR, not announcing the winner yet does keep me coming back to the site every hour. Oh . . . oh no . . . this wasn't a contest at all, just a stunt to bring viewers coming back to the site! I've been duped!

I've hit about level 60 with my Emboar, and frankly, I'm finding it to be a real grind. They seem to think that having a doctor near the important parts of areas makes it okay to have a ton of trainers (which I feel bad for skipping even one) and a wild pokemon rate that is shocking compared to the older games.
It's also a little weird having to do something in each town before challenging the gym. But, I feel that I'm still just blowing through all these towns at rocket speed. When I got "Fly", I was just like "Well, I guess I can get this fossil vitalized . . . and then fly back".
But! This seems to be the best pokemon game in recent memory, and I am so happy that it's all original, brand new pokemon. I was dreading having to dredge through catching/finding 400 some pokemon. That was the worst part of playing Diamond, especially when I was so close to  unlocking the Pal Park.
Also, what's up with Nintendo recently and bringing their online functions up later than the game. I want to trade some pokemons without friend codes, but the service doesn't start until the 30th. I'm extra pissed because I had to hassle with killing my router's security just so my DS Phat could connect to WiFi, only to find that
1) No WiFi services besides friend code based stuff
and
2) My code could be found by just looking in the Pal Pad, which was my main purpose for going online.

Pokemon is so close to getting the formula right, soooooo close.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Friend Codes: One Per System, Works for All Games
« on: January 19, 2011, 02:50:45 PM »
That's pretty sweet that there's only one friend code, but it's still a bit depressing that it is a code. Everyone knows their Gamertag, but who is going to go through the trouble of memorizing a code? It is nice that you can just trade codes locally, but that seems like Nintendo is just admitting that nobody will go to the trouble of memorizing their code. Will it be possible to link your freind codes for NDS games? Will you still be able to see if your friend is playing a NDS game?

I'm pretty happy that at least the DSi and 3DS share a charger. It's been a little bit irritating how Nintendo couldn't just choose one charger and stick with it. I'm also really impressed with how nice that screenshot looks. Looks a little like the Sony Eyepet thing, maybe a little less on the cartoonish side.

I had tried this game before, but the craziness of the two screen battle thing turned me off. I've just ended up setting it to auto play from the beginning, has anyone else done this? I'm afraid this might come back and bite me in the butt. I really wish that you could chain battles earlier, especially after I learned you could, died, and then had to go through the whole "grind until you get certain pins" again. I hate also how you had to talk to someone before you could polish Hachiko, I found myself just tapping the hell out of the screen thinking my original DS touchscreen had finally broken after years of Elite Beat Agents.
I thought that the game was going to be incredibly short until I saw your posts about week 2 and 3. Also, I really hate every last bit of audio in this game, I just can't get used to the voice acting during battles, the general soundtrack, and the  weird laughs of the characters that just pop up sometimes into the endless talking.
But despite my gripes with the game, it is a lot of fun. I really like the mechanic of leveling up while you don't play it. It made me think about the  discussion about how games are easier to play when you come back. I gotta play some more though, I just finished Day 4 Week 1.

Did anyone else notice a person when scanning whose thought bubble says "Oendon!" and then goes on to talk about how their school needs some sweet cheer leading outfits? I got a kick out of that.

When I was listening to the discussion about remakes, re-imaginings, etc., I couldn't help but think of Resident Evil 4 for the Wii. From what I've heard of it, while being the same game, it had the bonus "Ada" missions and new controls. I think thats a pretty good example of a game showing up again in a new form.

Hi. This is my first post here but I've been listening to RFN for years. Anyway, I just finished Mother 3 (though I feel like I'm missing out, I still need to play Earthbound). Here's what I thought of the game:
I understand that I needed to pull the needles to save the world, but why did I need to pull the last needle? Didn't the one other person who could pull the needle just die? I'm also going to have to agree with most others that Leder's speech was boring and the worst way that the loose ends could have been tied in the story. I probably should have played Earthbound before playing this game, being that it is a sequel, but everything concerning Porky was somewhat confusing. Did he travel through time? Is this game supposed to be set in the same world as Earthbound? Having Claus as the final bad guy would have been satisfying for me. I don't think Porky was really necessary. Chapter 8 seems to be the main problem and the point where things went downhill. My brother, who has been watching me play the game, said what I had been thinking at the whole darkness scene at the end, "This is stupid."
Though I had problems with the end of the game, I enjoyed most all of the rest . . . excluding Duster's chapter and the volcano portion where everything destroyed me until I saw that you could buy an item for fire protection. Some parts of the game were hilarious. Like when Boney walks on two legs and everyone comments how he smells like a dog. The Pigmasks were awesome, and enemy design in general was great. The battle music was better than most games (ugh, Golden Sun) and I found myself whisting along to some of it. On a side note, I read on Starmen.net that the soundtrack for one of the Mother games is on the US iTunes. I found that combos in battle became easier when I used a wired 360 gamepad to play. Anyway, I really enjoyed the 30 hours I spent playing Mother 3.
