The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Announced
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:29:00 AM »

Three dimensions, three Links.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40476/the-legend-of-zelda-tri-force-heroes-announced

A new, top-down 3D Zelda game has been revealed for Nintendo 3DS.

Tri Force Heroes allows up to three players to work together in a classic Zelda title similar in design to the previous Four Swords titles. Key features in this title are wearable costumes that provide Link with different abilities, such as dodging enemy attacks, and the ability to lift other Links on your shoulders, allowing for a totem pole formation when all three Links are stacked up as one.

It is worthy to note that the developer team at Nintendo attempted a four-player configuration for this game, but found that three worked best.

We'll update with more information as it becomes apparent.

I'm not interested in this game at all. The nice thing about Four Sword Anniversary is that it was free. Triforce Heroes is likely $40 and I'm still left with the conundrum of rounding up two other people for multiplayer because if this is anything like Four Swords, it's probably mediocre by yourself.

It's a shame. I really liked Link Between Worlds. Triforce Heroes just doesn't do it for me.

Looks like fun but it makes the 7th-9th Zelda game this gen depending on how you count.

Seemed more like an eShop game to me but if it's a $40 full release than I'm out also.

Weird how they didn't do four players, but oh well. It's got online play so I'm hyped for this, should be lotsa fun!

Nope. No, no, no. Not worth it. Didn't like Four Swords that much. Not going to like this.

Four Swords Adventure was awesome and this game is basically the sequel I've been waiting for.  Not sure what the complaints about price are for since Four Swords Adventure shows this style of Zelda can easily fit a full game.  Comparing it to Four Swords Anniversary are silly since that was just a port of the tiny Four Sword section of the GBA LttP port that was never a full fledged game in itself like Four Sword Adventure was.

Four Sword Adventure was the real deal and if this game is anything like it it'll easily be worth a $40 price tag.

Watching this live, it's giving major Lara Croft: Guardian of Light vibes.

While it has online, these kind of games are much better with a bud sitting nearby...

I think every multiplayer game is better in local than online, but online is way easier to play, especially on 3DS where every player needs to have the system and (most often) their own copy of the game.

I don't think the comparison is silly. I wasn't commenting on Four Sword Anniversary's quality. I had fun with both Adventure and Anniversary, but I had to jump through hurdles to have that fun. Anniversary just had the benefit of being free, something Triforce Heroes likely does not share. Considering Four Sword Adventure and Four Sword Anniversary are only fun multiplayer, I have doubts there's enough in Triforce Heroes to justify a $40 price tag for me. Like azeke said, even with online, these kinds of games benefit by having someone nearby. I'm not paying a premium for a game that isn't fun single player and I'd have trouble gathering enough people to play multiplayer.

We felt we could only make this work with three players... even though we did four players in previous games.

I'm sorry but this excuse just sounds so DUMB.  Maybe we'll play it and agree that it wouldn't work with four players but it better be REALLY obvious that it needs to be that way.  Otherwise it just looks like they're going backwards.  Can you imagine the shitstorm if the next SSB or Mario Kart supported LESS players than before?

Four Swords Adventure was one of my favourite Cube games and I played it mostly two players.  But I lived with my brother at the time so he was readily available to play with.  Multiplayer doesn't fit my lifestyle as much these days and I don't want to play with strangers.

The Treehouse segment made it look really fun, although I suspect single-player is going to be a pale shadow of that experience.

I loved Four Swords Adventure and glad they un-shelved the game after finishing Link Between Worlds but 3 Links? Come on Nintendo, the story is about people pretending/trying to be the hero. Let us play as Link's sister or Malon too!

Is it true that this game has download play so only one cart is needed across three 3DSes?

This makes it MUCH more appealing. Still questionable as a purchase because I so rarely play anything multiplayer on my 3DS...  but knowing that I wouldn't need multiple copies of the game to enjoy playing with friends is a pretty big selling point.

I wonder if the download play experience is very limited compared to the full game?

Whoa, this download play totally changes things.  Now I'm actually pretty interested.  As I said I don't want to play with strangers but getting my brother and I each to get a copy was a big requirement.  I didn't need to do that with Four Swords Adventures.  We each already had a GBA and I already had a cable so the cable that came with the game gave me the two needed for us to play together.

I know two other 3DS owners, my brother and a friend of ours.  This friend pretty much buys every Nintendo first party release.  He will almost certainly buy this and then he'll need two people to play with and that will naturally be my brother and I since he doesn't know any other 3DS owners either.  So I'll get to play this for free!  Ha!  This download feature just completely flipped my interest in this title!

By the way, they should also make it possible to play as just two players with third Link being a doll or something, in both local and online.

So far it's either 1 or 3, but no 2 players.
