So I've been using Firefox since it first came out on beta and have loved it. Each version just keeps getting better and with the addition of addons, I could surf the internet without the concern of being hijacked or seeing annoying pop-ups and ads.

Everything was great....until now.

With the newest version being released, Firefox seems to have lost all of it's speed and most annoyingly, it's seemlessness. My videos play choppy, the speed at which sites load varies greatly (even the same site), and form actions and text take forever to load sometimes.

So I decided to switch to chrome. Low and behold my internet experience is back to it's old speedy self. My videos aren't choppy and my sites load as fast as ever. But there are some problems. For one, I can't block any ads or scripts and all those loveable addons I had that boosted my productivity are gone.

But still, as an experiment I'm going to completely delete firefox and download version 2 and run them side by side with chrome to see which one is ultimately better.

I'll come back with the results sometime when I feel like, so for now, please feel free to way in!

I still prefer Firefox, Chrome just feels different, i have both and use them both on various occasions, but i am still a firefox fan.

I only use Chrome. It does have its bugs once in a while, but I'm more than happy with it. I'm a internet browser user that doesn't use add-ons of any sort, I like it clean and simple.

Chrome is impressive, but I still prefer Firefox overall. The one thing that I really like about Chrome is that each tab and window is a separate process so if you have bloated script slowing down one page, it won't affect your browsing speed on another page.

If you want the FireFox without the StupidFox of most recent versions, use the monkey, SeaMonkey (also Mozilla). Simpler and faster than FireBadger and Google Chrome.

I am just not used to the setup in Chrome, I am going to do an experiment. From now on I am going to use Chrome only for a few days and see if I like it more.

I've been having a problem Fifeox for a while now, but I finally un-installed it today because an error occurred that I couldn't overlook.
Previously firefox would never automatically log me back in after a restart like it used to. Not a big deal, more of a minor inconvenience.

Today, in the middle of watching a Neflix movie (watch it now), it just stopped working. after erasing cookies, history and restarting the computer, I can't get to the main page of Netflix to log back in and continue my movie. It works in IE & works in FF on the other computer, so I decided to just wipe my computer clean of FF (restart)and try out Chrome.

CHROME HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!!!! WTF!!!

NEW RECORD! I managed to crash Firefox SIX TIMES consecutively. Crash. Restart. Reload Tabs. Crash. Restart. Reload Tabs. Etc.

I found the dodgy link and put it into Chrome. Chrome crashes for about a minute, then comes out of its hangover and says that its the Firefox Flash Plugin that's not working, do i want to quit it.

Chrome is more crash resistant luckily.

Just got back home and did a fresh install of FF and its working perfectly now.

But damn did Chrome make me realize how slow FF has become.
I think I need to do a fresh install on chrome too to get rid of the Netflix issue though.

edit: I was just about to re-do Google Chrome, and the netflix site just loaded to the main log-in page before I clicked to close the browser. Weird.

I've been using Chrome exclusively on a laptop for almost a month now. It's a nice program and all, but if I could switch back to FF I would(the laptop needs to be reset too often with FF).

Chrome is quick most of the time, but I constantly have load errors where the page starts to load and it just sits there until I refresh it. The page this happens with most, and you would think this would be an optimized browser for that page, is Youtube. Videos just refuse to load about 50% of the time, I end up loading them up in Safari (also giving that browser a small test run <its a little slow at times>). Is there a quick fix for this problem? I can't go back to mu browser of choice on this laptop, but is there any other browsers worth checking out?

FF has memory dumping issues
I think Mozilla has another browser right?
Safari..... ok to use, just not preferred.

This quickest fix is Sea Monkey, also by Mozilla. It works cuz fame hasn't gotten to its head yet, cuz it has none.

As long as you're not using XP 64-bit, it should be fine.

Yes, it does. Well-known add-ons like Ad-block and No-script script work; the rare ones that don't work don't follow Mozilla's standard install specs correctly.

I can't get Youtube (which is made by Google) to work with Chrome (which is made by Google) about 30-50% of the time. How is it better for video? please explain.

Chrome also isn't compatible with Netflix, so I automatically have to fire up IE, so thats another negative.

I have no problems with youtube, but I was talking about divx. I stream a lot of HDTV and it's almost always divx. Firefox plays it back choppy as hell while chrome is nice and smooth.

Chrome has it's faults though. For one, it likes to crash and scripts die often. It's annoying, but that's why I only use it for video.

YT works fine on Chrome for me. On my computer, Chrome is faster, cleaner, far less pop ups, and crashes less. Me like it.

The main problem is this laptop I'm on, it's old. My computer, at my house is a C2Q and runs everything perfectly, but I need a browser that is gonna run smooth on this computer.

FF was good until you run out memory every other hour.
Safari is kinda slow, but atleast loads everything the first time(98% of the time).
IE is riddled with small annoyances (but is needed if I don't have FF <ie tab ftw>)
Chrome is quick, but sometimes pages just don't load until you refresh. Youtube might not fully load at all on some videos, just a black video box.

I might try out Opera & I wanna see how bad sea monkey looks, but I might end up just dealing with FF and find an extension that fixes the problem. Or find an old version of FF before v3

Funny thing is that IE tab was causing the problem of memory leaks. No IE tab

(ie view lite instead - no it's not the same) but the computer works fine now.

yes sure google Chrome is the best browser, when i first downloaded it, my internet was running at a lighting speed, i even checked my speed http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/ and it was normal too, hitherto i used firefox which chocked my browsing capabilities .
But the only one advantage with firefox is that it has more add ons, which makes things much easier

but Netflix is streaming directly through Chrome with no need for IE tab.

this is a big deal for the laptop that I am on.
Only problem I am having right now is that the ad blocker I'm using (<AdThwart>i have to test the other 2) won't block "ads by google" on certain sites.

I'm trying to recall since I haven't used firefox in a while. I think it updates when you reach a new page. Say you are on page 4 and you go to page 5 it updates any posts that were made while you were reading page 4.

yeah. it only updates to the latest post at the time the page was loaded. But if you have a lot of post to catch up on, then Autopager/AutoPagerize is the way to go.

It also works on things like google searches, which is especially handy if you are looking up images, since you can infinitely scroll until you reach the last page if necessary.

But I'm glad AutoPager isn't working with this site anymore since it wasn't working properly anyway. But AutoPagerize fixed some of the issues I was having with AutoPager on other sites as well, since it would keep loading screens so fast, that I could never make it back to the original page I was on sometimes and would have to close the window and start over again.
I couldn't even find the original page if I went up to the arrow and tried to click directly on it. I like to keep the 1st page as the bottom back page so that there aren't too many pages loaded in the memory.

Ok. I'm switching back to Firefox after 5 days of Chrome.

It looks nice and sometimes it runs quick, but after awhile things just lag, some things don't load, and ad blocking doesn't work like I want it to.

The ad blocker lets the ads load but then doesn't show them and that is what is causing most of the problems. The browser is waiting on the ads to load before loading almost everything else. It's very frustrating since eventually the browser starts to chuuuuuuuug along slooooowly and requires that I close all of it and restart it all.

FF is fine as long as I run a PC doctor like program to clear the cache and free up memory before before running a netflix/hulu video if I've been surfing extensively before hand. As a browser FF runs great, but videos can chop if I don't clear up the mem first.

Bump!

So I recently made the switch to Chrome. I like it! It's a hell of a lot faster than Fire Fox.

What are some good extensions? I've already got AdBlock, IE tab and a Wikipedia companion (which is fantastic because it lets me do a quick Wikipedia search in a floating window). I also have a G-Mail and Google Reader checker which is quite handy. What else is great that I don't know about?

Also, does anyone know how to make videos appear in Google Reader? YouTube and other videos won't appear show up in Reader so if I want to view them I have to navigate to the original site and view them there (and that's assuming I even know they're there--unless the text specifically mentions the video I generally won't even realize there is one). I don't know if this is a limitation of Reader, RSS feeds in general, or if it's AdBlock.

I had another Chrome update today, wasn't sure what it was for, but I just now put a Netflix movie up on the bigscreen and it asked me if I wanted to always keep Netflix in fullscreen mode even while interacting with another window.

It's about freaking time. I don't know if Firefox has the same option, but F11 wasn't really cutting it for me anymore.

Just made the switch yesterday. The only thing that's really lacking for me in Chrome is the ability to customize button positions. I had gotten used to that. And the stupid "other bookmarks" folder that needs to die.

But I can't beat the speed of Chrome and just the light weight efficient "feel" of the whole thing. Plus it let me double my score in Robot Unicorn Attack since Firefox slowed to a crawl every time I played a flash game, so that's a plus.

Chrome: Canary build is the developers version for beta testing. It's what I use because it allows for features that Chrome doesn't.

For example, if you got to "about:labs" in Canary, you can turn on Google Instant for the search bar. It makes Chrome soooooooooooo much better. Seriously, it's the fastest i've ever search the internet. My favorite sites load with the press of a single letter. So all I have to do is type "g" and gmail will pop up and log in.

Ever since I updated my Chrome browser about a week or so ago I've been having nothing but problems.

My add-ons stopped working properly;
Ad block lets the ad load and display, then takes it away a split second later, leaving a space where it was at.
some grease monkey apps aren't working at all
random failure on all tabs from time to time
youtube videos won't load - forcing me to load up Firefox
web pages lag.... could just be the sites, as some seem to load a hell of a lot faster than others at times
using up 3-4GB of RAM sometimes on nothing. But it was doing that before I updated....

WTF is up with my Chrome?

No idea. Mine runs great. Both versions. (I use the Canary Build)

I might switch back to firefox (or use both in tandem). It's suppose to help with loading heavy visual sites by off-loading the weight to the GPU.

Firefox4 is noticeably faster than previous versions. Of course, for my tastes, you have to turn off the dumb tab animations and move the tabs away from the top edge.

Chrome runs well, but is minimalist at best. It's fine for a netbook or something, but isn't full-featured enough to be my daily browser. Besides, the UI is so stripped down that it's painful to navigate through all of the sub-directories. Hiding options in the attempt to make things seem "user-friendly" is a design philosophy that should stay with Apple.

What features are you looking for that Chrome lacks? I used to use Firefox, but it became painfully slow so I went to Chrome, and I haven't run into anything I can't do (aside from lousy Silverlight implementation in the Mac version, but that's on Microsoft).

I like that FF does that automatically as sometimes I need to close the browser and it picks up exactly where I left off if I was scrolling down a page.

Chrome only does that if the computer shuts off without warning.

I just fixed my Chrome problem.

I went in an disabled all of my extensions, closed Chrome, reopened Chrome, enabled all my extension, closed Chrome again and then opened it again and all is good again.

You should try the Canary build. It updates with beta and though it can cause more problems, it mostly fixes annoyances (like youtube not working) way before a stable launches.

oh, I didn't even try youtube again.

It's weird because some videos would work without a problem and others would never load regardless of how many times you reload.
Chrome would be the one browser you would never expect to have problems watching youtube with.

I just installed Firefox 4 and now I'm gonna test run it for a week.

I think the disabling and re-enabling of the extensions in Chrome solved my ram eating problem, but the Ad Blocker is still acting up, so Firefox get's it's turn back in the limelight for now.

edit: I just discovered something else that Firefox has solved.
I can use my mouse wheel click in Firefox but it doesn't work in chrome. All this time I thought my mouse was incompatible with the software that Logitech made for it, but it's just that chrome isn't. Now I can click the button and move teh mouse up and down to do a quick scroll in all available directions. How weird is that?

Is there an extension for Chrome that will allow me to reopen tabs I had open before my computer restarts itself? My work PC is set to automatically download and install Windows updates and I can't turn that "feature" off. I means that once or twice a month I wake up to find that I've lost all the tabs I had been saving for a rainy day. I tend to keep a lot of tabs open for stuff I plan to read later but don't have time for at the moment.

When my computer resets itself, my tabs sometimes offer to come back, most times it doesn't.

But my Chrome also has issues with loading Youtube. Flash & HTML5. I usually have to hit the IE Tab just to watch a video, so my Chrome is half-retarded and probably shouldn't be compared to anyone elses.

Sometimes I accidentally click ads that take you to a page that will 'scan your computer for viruses'. I try to close out but a stupid popup shouts "Don't go!". So I Ctrl + Alt + Delete and close firefox. But when I reopen the damn browser it drags the bloody ad page back up like a puppy bringing back a lit stick of dynamite his owner threw. After doing this three or four times finally the browser goes 'uh-oh, we had an error, do you want to restore the last session?' Then I can start all over.

Vudu, the only way to have chrome save your session is to end its process through the task manager. It's fail safe will save your session, so next time you open Chrome, you'll have the option to re-open your tabs.

Or more easily, you can search through your recent history and open them from their.

Anytime Chrome closes for me, whether intentionally or due to crash, it either automatically opens all the tabs I had or asks me if I want to open them. Recently I accidentally closed my browser window, but when I opened a new one, the first option on the list of sites I'd recently visited was XX Tabs (it was the number of them, I just don't remember the specific one), and when I clicked that it opened everything back up to the way I had it.

I frankly don't even really see a difference and the details are so small that they really don't matter. They both allow all kinds of plugins and customization.

If you don't see a difference you're really not paying attention, and beyond that, this thread hasn't really seen arguments. It's called Chrome vs. Firefox, but that's not what the thread's about, at least not recently. It's more just "Web Browser Discussion," and Chrome and Firefox are the two legitimate options.

That's the way it is for me when I manually close Chrome. But if Windows restarts itself then I don't have that option.
