Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip
« on: November 14, 2008, 11:43:07 PM »
YEEEEEAAAAH ROAD TRIP TIME BABY WOOOOOOOOOO HEEEEEY YEAAAAH WOOOOOOO

I got this brand new big name third party Wii exclusive and it's pretty good. I've only played an hour. Not really revolutionary though I don't think, I didn't really say "wow" when I first stepped on and got the hang of the controls, but the balance board works well and is no doubt a step forward. My neck feels a bit sore from looking left all the time, hopefully i'll get used to it. Graphics are NICE, cool style as well, and the cutscenes and story actually don't make me cringe, it feels pretty natural. While it has a licensed soundtrack, the songs are good. Don't Fear the Reaper is in it!

Mario has it early because he is Australian. Did You hear that I've bought Disaster and I am taking orders?

Eurogame had some less than kind things to say about the Xbox/PS3 version although they do mention that the Wii version feels better to play. Gamerankings seems to agree.

I'M CONVINCED. Picking this up tomorrow, intense creatures from Ganon (Ubisoft) and so forth. I abused my Balance Board by forcing it to experience the terror of The Incredible Maze, it's about time I treat it to something good.

My god this game is confusing and hard. I thought I had the hang of the controls, I was wrong.

EDIT: **** yeah I was stuck on a challenge and just kicked its arse. Game is easy.

Alright I guess a good way to sum up the game is easy to play hard to master. There's so much to think about at once. The biggest reward is when you just stick to a good path and pull tricks consistently, rather than go for amazing single tricks. Having one foot leaning left and the other right, in the air, then getting ready to land straight, then making sure you've lined up the next ramp or grind thing or path, is amazing when done right but hard. I prefer the racing aspect though, leaning forward is heaps cool. Now i've just gotta set up my fan on top of the TV facing me.

Yeah this place is getting pretty boring with only 1-2 people buying games now. I just remembered the game has normal Wii controls with the remote and nunchuck, i'm gonna check those out now.

EDIT: Wow weird, it's Wiimote only, and you hold it in the pointing position. Very unique, makes the game seem so much simpler. I prefer the balance board still though, seems more precise and easier to turn, since you know where the dead zone is (falling off the board).

I'm going to borrow my neighbor's balance board. I will also be getting Skate It later this week. You should check that out too Mario if you like Balance Board controls.

Enjoying this, it's nothing really amazing, but it's fun. And fun is good for the few of us here that actually play video games!

Beat this today, all the main challenges at least, by the end of it I was sweating and cursing and loving it, reminds me of my first week with Wii Sports. Not too much variety and courses though, but it's a solid game, thank you very much Ubisoft for supporting Wii as the number one system for this game, it's a positive sign and nobody will be disappointed in the game. Good for the industry.

Something I think I can recommend is just staying at medium sensitivity on the board. :P  Low makes you have to press real hard for tricks, but makes steering easy. High makes tricks easy, but steering to ridiculously loose. haha
