They haven't even gotten around to N64 games yet, so I have to figure it's going to be a long time before we see GameCube.

Did Nintendo ever *say* they were going to waste their time with the Gamecube VC? Or was this some sort of groupthink assumption that just sprung up after E3 one year? I completely forgot.

Because we should have realized remasters in an attempt to make these games not suck were going to be the way to go before Project Cafe was a thing simply because they can charge $50-$60 for them.

These people will probably be playing the game on a CRT instead of a modern television as well.

Hm.  Nintendo-branded, Smash-Bros logo'd 32" HD CRT TVs.

I'll make millions.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

I'm fairly certain they did mention it at one point. Probably in the same statement where they talked about how you'd be able to browse the eShop on the web.

I'm pretty confident that Iwata announced this in the January 2013 Nintendo Direct.

The only VCs announced in that Direct were N64 and GBA, and that's the one where they announced Wind Waker HD so why would they say they're doing ROM dumps?

While I wouldn't bemoan a GameCube Virtual Console, I hope Nintendo continues with the HD remakes.

I think Nintendo are focusing more on bringing new VC games rather than converting the old systems from Wii VC. DS games have also been announced for Wii U so I wouldn't be surprised if we see systems like DS and GCN, and then systems like N64 and Genesis and others remain available only in Wii mode. Since those games can technically still be purchased on a Wii U then Nintendo probably don't see them as a priority.

Not that they focus on the VC in general, but when they do throw it a bone, it's something like GBA stuff or Earthbound.

I was never fond of the D-pad, C-stick, and Z button on the Gamecube controller. I could give or take the button layout.
Yeah, I did think it was strange how the C-stick didn't have a grip on it like the left stick, but it wasn't too big a deal. I never had an issue with the D-pad or Z button though, and I don't recall the button layout hindering any of the games I played either. I think it works better than the diamond layout because when my thumb rests on the A button then the other three buttons are right next to it, whereas with the diamond there will always be one button far away from whichever button I'm using. And the controller does feel perfect for Smash Brothers, though the N64 one was pretty good too.

I noticed it when I played Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance the Game Cube pad was terrible for that game. There were others but it was so bad made the game nearly unplayable took major adjustments to get used to it. When I got it on PS2 it was like playing the game for the first time.

I'm especially curious because I never did the system transfer from my Wii to the Wii U for various reasons and I heard that since it wasn't transferable I would receive an eShop credit for DKC3.

I don't know to what you referring with the e-shop credit but if you have transferred your Wii data to Wii U, the e-shop will recognize you have already downloaded the title on Wii and the price will automatically be discounted to the "upgrade" price In the cases of the DKC games, the upgrade price is $1.50. But since you have not done a system transfer yet, you will not see this discount for the Wii U version.

I've noticed a trend here that is a little strange.  Every week now the Wii U sales are higher than the sales of the same week in the prior year.  However the YTD sales remain lower than last year's.  So the Wii U is selling better on a weekly basis but still doesn't yet look like it will sell more than it did last year.  So was there some big splurge in sales last year that puts it over the top or a really weak period earlier this year?

In a couple of weeks we'll hit the point that new bundles were released for the Wii U. That and the holiday are the big difference.

Also, the Xbone is sub-1k... and truth be told, I don't see anything that'll bring it back up.
