I went into the Wii U eshop to redownload DLC for a game that I lost the save data for. I saw that there was $20 on my balance that I forgot about, so I went ahead an bought three games from my wishlist to zero it out. I picked up DK Jungle Climber, Spellcaster's Assistant, and Knytt Underground.

I think it is great the NES and SNES NSO apps are still getting some new games added. Obviously I prefer the arcade version of Xevious but this version is not bad.

3
I actually fired the Game Boy NSO app up last night for the first time. The different display options are really neat. Then I realized how few of these games I have played or even have access to. I never had a Game Boy and there was no Game Boy classic released like the NES and SNES so other than the few I have on 3DS VC this is it for me. I played a level from Super Mario Land 2 and realized that I could probably get some real enjoyment out of these. I think the NES joy-con would be a good fit as well since they are all two face button games.

I believe Fatal Frame is retail in Japan only.

Donkey Kong 94 is one I might revisit, though I do have it on 3DS virtual console. I would be most interested in the Game Boy Mega Man games. They might get released as a collection, but we already have one Capcom game on NSO (Gargoyle's Quest) so it is a possibility.

Just sell the company to Sony already.  :P

I remember liking DK summit. We haven't had a new driver in a while. Will there be any new kart, wheels, or glider to go with Birdo?

So I haven't been there yet but Akihabara is considered to be the mecca of video game shopping in Japan.

Super Potato is in this district and it has all sort of retro games and consoles like Adrock described.

During my stay in Tokyo, my hotel is actually in Akihabara  :D. Looking at Google Maps, Super Potato is just a couple of blocks away. Thanks for this recommendation!

Which systems are region free (other than switch)
All pre-DSi Nintendo handhelds are region free. Even then, only DSi exclusive physical games are region locked, all five (?) of them. Not sure if you can read/speak/understand Japanese, but either way, you can't change the UI language on any Japanese model of DS to English.

So DS is region free but 3DS is not. Can I play a Japanese DS cart in my US 3DS?

Universal Studios Japan has a Harry Potter area just like the ones in the states so I was thinking that IP was popular there. I wonder how well PSVR 2 will do over in Japan ???

Did they say when the new season starts? I really need to rank up before then.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland is my favorite Kirby game, but I am still not planning to double dip. The game looks good enough on Wii and I still haven't 100% it there. Although, if I see if for under $20 later I might get it as an impulse buy.

It seems weird that they have signed on to making games for an IP that have not yet acquired. I am guessing that if the deal does not go down, Activision has no obligation to make any games for Nintendo?

I am planning to visit Japan this year and will be in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. I am planning to doing some game shopping, visiting arcades, and other video game related tourism. Does anyone have recommendations on the following:
  • Good arcades or used game stores in Tokyo
  • Which systems are region free (other than switch)
  • Some really good Japan-only physical games
  • Must visit video game related places in Japan
Thanks for any suggestions

  • Announced Game - Pikmin 4 is released in summer 2023 and has some cool use of joy-cons
  • NSO - Adds DLC for a game and a new (portable) platform e.g. GameBoy

So far so good. No predictions were flat out wrong with the first direct like last year. The two above are half points already.  :D

For the Splatoon expansion, I am mostly interested in finding out what the "Side Order" part is all about. If I want to go back to Inkopolis, I could just put in Splatoon 2 (or 1 I suppose)

18
I am very interested is these because of them being Monolith Soft developed games.

I am in the same boat, wanting to play Ghost Trick but not having it easily accessible. We can finally find out what the hype is all about.

I will be picking up Bayonetta Origins. Fashion Dreamer looked like a nice Style Savvy successor. I somehow missed the Level-5 announcements when skipping over stuff I did not want spoiled. We will have to wait and see with that Layton Game.

I pre-ordered the physical version of the game and I was glad to see it was only $40 in the US.

I know it's a hassle, but can't you remap buttons at the system level e.g., switching a and b. Then change back when you go to another game?
For folks that played the Mega Man collection on GameCube, you might remember that the reverse button mapping makes it almost unplayable for some.

24
If you look at the list of eligible games, some of them are $50 already  ???

They Live
Eyes Wide Shut
Fletch
Anyways, if anyone does want feedback or a quick review of a movie listed, make a post and I'll answer you on that.

I am curious what you thought of these three movies. For Fletch, any plans to watch the sequel or newer film?
