TalkBack / Re: Mario Party: The Top 100 Coming to 3DS
« on: September 14, 2017, 02:48:12 AM »
I almost wish this was a Switch game. Though I think Khushrenada's idea for a Mario Kart mixture of new and retro boards/games would be the way to go for future Switch Mario Party games.

TalkBack / Re: Minecraft Releasing On New 3DS Today
« on: September 14, 2017, 02:43:45 AM »
Wow! They really are porting this to every system they can! The mention of a retail release for the New 3DS version makes me wonder when they will do the same for the Switch version. Seems like a huge, missed opportunity not to have the Switch version in stores for the holiday season.

The graphics on Skyrim look well done. I don't know how it compares to the PS4 version of the game, but it seems like they are pushing the Switch to its limits. At least, it'll have years of bugfixes compared to the original versions!

Great to see Doom and Wolfenstein II coming. I do wonder how the lag time from the other versions will affect sales. Hopefully, the portable nature of the Switch versions will counteract lost sales from releasing late.

TalkBack / Re: Zelda Champion Amiibo Receive Release Date
« on: September 14, 2017, 02:23:06 AM »
Surpirsed they didn't announce the release date of the DLC along with the amiibo. One would assume they would be the same. That may still be the case, but it's odd that wasn't confirmed even if no details of the actual DLC were discussed.

Would love to play the original Punch-Out! I guess Hamster did such a good job/found such success with the NeoGeo titles, that Nintendo wanted some of that action.

TalkBack / Re: Fire Emblem Warriors Adds Fan Favorite Character

When I saw the hem of her dress, I thought "Lyn!" My favorite Fire Emblem character. :) Surpised me as I thought they were only using characters from the most recent games.

Good Lord, is Nintendo ever releasing games this year that will take ages to complete?! It might take James Jones only two weeks, but for us mortals, some of these games will take months to fully explore, espcially if you like to take your time.

The game world looks great. So much variety! I was somewhat turned off by the art-style at E3, but I'm starting to like it after this extended look. The Xenoblade games keep getting bigger and bigger. You begin to wonder what the limits will be at some point. Just thinking about all the hard work it took to create the huge amount of art makes me tired!

When they were about to announce the release date, I was crossing my fingers that Xenoblade 2 would make 2017. I could hear all the doubters saying "No way!" all at once! :)

333
I agree with Khushrenada that this artstyle has great potential for remakes as well as new games. The game looks like something you'd dream would one day be possible in 2D games, back in the early/mid 1990s.

The preview was confusing however. In some ways it made it seem like the game was close to release (such as having a demo). In other ways, the working title aspect (despite having a trademark!) and the survey, make it seem like the game has a good ways to go. I would like to think early 2018, no later than March, but maybe there's still a ton of development ahead.

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 538: Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot
« on: September 11, 2017, 03:16:53 AM »
I realize I didn't give my Stallone Sprirt Role. I'd have to say Rocky Balboa, in the first Rocky film. When he's sort warring with himself on whether he can achieve his goals or not.

Nintendo has had a shortage of good sports games for awhile. Maybe create a Pele's Victory Soccer with Stallone and Michael Caine as players. That could have Game of E3 2018 potential, gentlemen!

When another slow mail episode comes along, I hope you'll be able to use the email I sent a couple of weeks ago. But I can't decide what would make a better conversation piece: Choaniki or Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland next to Donatello's David. It makes one ponder.

Thanks to Greg for his music selection. Brought back many good memories. Am I the only one that would go into first-person view to look at the Moon and the Christmas lights? I notice that I looked at the Moon alot in games during the Nintendo 64 era. Still do that with games sometimes.

I appreciated the Sonic talk. I need to play more of the Sonic games. Thanks to ClexYoshi for his informative Sonic post! :)

I'm still wondering what working with DeNA has done for Nintendo. Obviously, they help with the cellphone games, but they were also meant to help with the NX (now Switch). Is the voice app really the best they could do? It feels like Nintendo said, "We need online. We need online! Oh no, scary!!" and backed away awkwardly.

They've had online success in the past. But when it comes to online, it seems they have little to no institutional memory and have to start at square one every time a console/handheld launches. Sometimes they go backward and can't even do it as well as the previous system. At least ,not until after years of updates, just to get back to where they were.

If people are skeptical, it's because of numerous examples in Nintendo's past. Nintendo's current attitude does nothing to help matters. So little communication makes it seem like they don't have a real plan, or at least, not a good one. Especially when they delays things for months and still have little to nothing to say and don't address the problems people have with their current service.

There is no defending the current voice app. Is it Splatoon 2 only, or will other games come use it? Not even a hint of an answer. There are so many things wrong with the app from a design and functionality point of view, it feels like they threw it together in a couple of months. And yet, they had as long as Splatoon 2's dev cycle to come up with a quality product and failed.

To James: A Jet Force Gemini RetroActive shouldn't make you sick. It should be the cure for your ills. Sunshine on a cloudy day! I think a JFG RetroActive in January to start off 2018 right, is the way to go. I'm sure many people would agree with me! :)

Neat. I've played Rocket League on the PS4. Can't wait to try it out on the Switch. It could be one of the bigger hits of the Fall for the system. Minecraft would be another, if they ever get around to announcing a physical release.

Very unexpected. I wonder if this is meant to drum up more excitement for Super Mario Odyssesy closer to its release date.

Hope it's as good or better than the one held at E3 2015.

I resent the description of the stream as unfortunate! I was very fortunate to have so many people come in and have an interesting time experimenting with different scenarios, even if many of them involved 3v1 against James!

Was the stream archived and linkable like the one you did with James and Jon (in April I believe)?

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 534: Demonstrably False
« on: August 07, 2017, 03:54:39 AM »
I'm glad you guys brought back 20 Questions and I hope you'll play it again in the future. I loved the agony and the ecstasy of guessing Jon's game. About halfway through the questions I had an idea about what the game would be after consulting the JLA (Jon Lindemann Archives aka my memories). After the licensing question, I was 99% certain. After the publishing question, I was 100% and Greg came in at the last minute to confirm!

For VR game ideas, I say have a version of the SNES game Uniracers. Imaging popping wheelies in virtual reality in that game! Or Geist VR. Hmm, hmmm?

When James said there may be something released to the RFN feed next week that isn't a normal epsiode, I immediately thought of one thing. I won't say it, because I don't think it will happen and I don't want to jinx it if it is on the table.

I noticed that two weeks in a row, the episode clocked in at under 2 hours. When will Gui's reign of terror end? ;)

I like how the RFN Crew picked the next RetroActive game, yet do not seem that anxious to play it. "Clean is better than dirty" boys, as me old mother used to say. Or maybe that was a magazine ad. The mud in the game always looked like chocolate pudding to me. So just pretend Mario is having the time of his live gorging on dessert. The Shadow Mario is really just Luigi trying to steal someone's cherries. Why wasn't he invited on the plane trip to paradise?  It may make for a more enjoyable experience.

I really should get around to playing SMS. I got about two-thirds through it during the mid 2000s, but gave up, not having the requisite amount of "git gud" at the time.

Gui's a good guy. I believe bon homme is the term. But if this episode is the typical result, maybe he should take an episode off every few months. You don't need any guests or fill-ins. Just these three guys. This episode was "off the chain" as the cool kids say.

I loved how James went into Jon right away, no rhyme or reason. I suppose Jon provided the rhyme, but I digress. I had to turn up the volume to hear Greg at first. I thought he was sick, but I guess he ws just marveling at how fast the show went off the rails before he was even introduced. Then James not transitioing properly, so Greg was caught off guard that his segment had come up.

Then James not getting that Jon was refering to the three E3 RFN episodes. Admittedly Jon did say he hosted three episodes when he only did two, but James knew what he meant!

On the subject of scarves, I'll just repost I what I suggested earlier:

Maybe use the cartoon heads from the t-shirts on each end/both sides of the scarf. That way, even on the coldest days, the scarf and the thought of RFN will warm the cockles of my heart! Depending on how you wear it, it can match your mood! Do I feel like Jon Lindemann or James Jones today?

Remember, the Hyrule Warriors scarf was limited to 300 copies in the US and I assume commands premium prices on the collector's market. Just think how much more valuable an even more limited edition RFN scarf would be. It could be a sound investment as well as a fashion statement and a philosophy of life.

Brisket versus Prime Rib. Calling Prime Rib, deli meat? You've gone too far mr. joooooonnnneeesssss (channeling that egg guy here). I'm with Team Jon on this one. Both meat choices are great, but with prime rib being slandered, I'll have to have an extra helping during Independence Day activities.

The return of Joanna. Sean Connery. I suggest someone write a script for Jon and Greg. Jon would play Sean Connery., starting with a Russian accent then quickly going Scottish to be true to life. Greg returning as Joanna. I'll write it myself if there's interest. It'll be challenging to make all of Joanna's dialogue a question. The scribes at Rare set a high bar.

Even Charlie Rose makes an appearance in this episode! If a rash of 5 star reviews don't appear on iTunes as a result, then people just don't know what's good.

TalkBack / Re: Core Pokemon Game in Development for Nintendo Switch
« on: June 13, 2017, 01:24:51 PM »
Well, they obviously had nothing to show of the new game. This was more just to reassure the people that feared Pokemon would remain on the 3DS forever.

Plus, Pokken had something of a following, so it doesn't hurt to remind people. Not like it took up that much time.

I suppose this puts the nail in the coffin of the Pokemon Stars rumor once and for all.

TalkBack / Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch) Release Date and Info
« on: June 13, 2017, 01:10:41 PM »
The October date for Super Mario Odyssey makes it seem more likely to me that Xenoblade 2 will make 2017. Otherwise, what would be the big November/December release?

Sometimes the game feels a bit too anime though. The girl that was nominally dressed in red was interesting. :p I always wonder how the Treehouse crew reacts when they're localizing something that is almost too stereotypically Japanese.

I missed that this was a 2018 game. Too bad. Looks neat.

I know the focus was on 2017, but we got more 2018 games than I thought we would. Maybe even 2019, going by Metroid Prime 4. ;p

There's something poetic about James posting this news article. :)

The announcement almost makes it seem like they just started development. I hope that isn't so, otherwise what the heck have they been doing since Tropical Freeze?

Ah! Didn't know there was going to be an RFN this week. I guess it'll be next week that RFN takes off (though not really since we'll have Tuesday's episode).

Sign me up for the RFN scarf.

Jon turning his physical games into digital? Is my Switchmas Carol story coming true? Mixed feelings if so. Computer/Game museums are all the rage these days, so one way to go would have been to bequeath his collection to the city to establish The Memorial Jon Lindemann Museum of Play. The centerpeice would have been the Halo Cat Helmet inside a glass case with a spotlight on it, like Srooge McDuck's Number One Dime! Hey, I can suspend my disbelief with the best of them!

Nice to hear Gui talk about Oracle of Ages. Who would have thought back then that one of the main developers on those games at Flagship, would come to Nintendo and make Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild?

TalkBack / Re: Skyrim Switch To Add Amiibo Support, Motion Controls
« on: June 12, 2017, 01:03:34 AM »
For some reason, when I read the headline on another site, I thought it was saying that you could use the Link amiibo in the new Skylanders game (note: there'll be no Skylanders game this year or ever?). I thought, "How would that work?"

Considering the tone/theme of Skyrim, I wonder how weird it'll be to play as Link.

Thanks for reading my email, though I personally think you left out the best part, so I'll post it below:

Jon, if at all possible, get a photo of yourself arm wrestling with Reggie at E3. It may go viral, inspiring Nintendo to remake the Arm Wrestling arcade game that used the Punch-Out! characters. You could be the Lincoln Hawk of a new generation. Remember, it's "Winner Takes It All" and "Mind Over Matter."

-----------------------

Maybe I should have predicted a sequel to Disaster: Day of Crisis. Since the first game stole from "The Rock", perhaps the sequel could ripoff "Con-Air". Being the loose cannon that he is, Ray goes too far in the name of justice and through legal technicalities, winds up in jail. Maybe throw in a little from "The Shawshank Redemption" while we're at it.

Ray wil have to face crooked guards, kingpins, and rabid badgers and prarie dogs in order to escape, prove his innocence and once again, save the hot seismologist sister. It writes itself really. Monolithsoft can put the Xenoblade X engine to further good use.
