Epic Mickey 2 Surfaces Once More

Disney may have accidentally confirmed the game's existence.

Epic Mickey 2 may be in the works for release in 2012, a Disney newsletter may have accidentally revealed.

Disney sent out a newsletter that indirectly confirmed the existence of a direct follow up to Epic Mickey, released in 2010 exclusively for the Wii. Despite images of the source being erased since, Disney website StitchKingdom.com wrote up an article that elaborated on the information presented in the newsletter

The game is said to be in the works for a Fall 2012 release on the Wii as well as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The new game will feature 2-player co-op in which players can take control of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as he controls a helicopter, while Mickey still retains his paintbrush and paint and paint thinner powers.

The full information according to the newsletter is as follows:

"Disney Epic Mickey 2 is the latest game in the critically acclaimed Disney Epic Mickey videogame series. In this all-new action-platforming game available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, Mickey embarks on an epic journey and is pulled back into a world filled with Disney’s forgotten characters. Players can choose to play single-player as Mickey or for the first time players can also choose 2-player split screen mode. In the 2 player mode one person can play as Mickey wielding magic paint and paint thinner to dynamically change the world and the second player can play as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit – Walt Disney’s first cartoon star – with the power to fly like a helicopter and use electricity to fight or friend enemies and solve challenges. Team-up and choose your path to save this forgotten world because the choices you make will alter the story and change the end of the game!"

The rumors about Epic Mickey 2 first surfaced earlier in the year when Disney released a survey which featured preliminary artwork of the game. The original Epic Mickey was a best seller on the Wii despite the mixed critical reception. Junction Point Studios (Warren Spector's development studio), however, laid off several employees once the game was completed and released.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I really enjoyed Epic Mickey. I had a great time exploring the worlds. The camera could be a nightmare, but I bet they address that this time around.

I'm still working on this game but I've really enjoyed what I've played of it so far.  The camera can be a little frustrating at times but I haven't found it as bad as most people made it out to be.  Everything else about the game I've liked and I'd definitely be interested in a sequel.

Well, I'm interested so long as the Wii version is the same exact game but in lower resolution.

If they build a sequel off the backs of Wii gamers and then give us EM2: Party Bash Edition or something totally gimped? that's not cool.

This sounds like the same exact game except with co-op. Until I hear some possibility that they actually improved the game, I'm not going to give it another chance,

Indeed. If they're not going to do the whole morality system thingmajig to a good standard, I'd prefer they didn't do it all and worked on making the game an interesting 3D platformer, which I understand is another failed aspect of the first Epic Mickey.

I enjoyed the first Epic Mickey, in spite of its serious flaws, such as the wonky camera and at time obtuse morality system. One major beef I had with the game would be that occasionally you would be dropped into a situation where you had no clue how to solve, and the game sure as hell wasn't gonna tell you... the room late in the game where you confront the Mad Doctor robot, for instance. I struggled for two hours trying to figure out what the hell the game wanted me to do and I finally had to look it up on GameFAQs... and the solution is NOT obvious or intuitive at all, but incredibly stupid and just reeks of poor design. I know the complaint these days is that there is too much hand-holding in modern games, but I'd prefer that rather than hours of frustration.

Uh, sorry, ranted on there. But yeah, like Jaro says, if they focus on making it more of a polished 3D platformer, rather than some morality play, I would totally dig that. But if it's more of the same, I think I'll pass.

I'm excited, the first game was extremely flawed but still a fun game that I hoped would be given another chance through a sequel. Looks like that is happening!

I'm fairly sure "fly like a helicopter" doesn't mean control an actual helicopter. He probably spins his ears in a classic cartoon manner, like Tails from Sonic and Lori from Jazz Jackrabbit.

Anyways, sounds great! The first features many great ideas and visuals, but also sports serious room for improvement.
