Inertial dampening, huh.  You know, a lot of people would get noticeably steadier handycam performance by just tucking their elbows into their torso.  It's not SteadyCam steady, but you don't have to make anything.

And it improves your understanding of stillness to become a better sniper.

I can't drink the water from the Nile anymore like I use to, so that bottle would be a money saver.

From the Comments section:  "It's too damn expensive. The poor people who needed the most cannot afford this bottle."

The product looks nice for the first-world country folks who are travelling.  But as a filter, it will eventually saturate and need to be discarded.  Filled with toxins, it becomes a hazardous waste product on top of being an expensive "solution" inadequate for real populations.

If you noticed he was asking for 20 Billion dollars. That may sound expensive, but for what it provides, it's really not.

And though you have to discard of a filter, your implication that it's a bio hazard is laughable. They are, after all, getting these toxins from the water itself.

I don't have sound at work, so I couldn't listen.

As for the toxins, in water, it's dilluted.  Captured, it's concentrated AND takes up physical space that isn't simply dumped back into the water sytem.  Whether it's used bandaids, direct human wastewater, or industrial wastewater, it's hazardous, so my definition is broad enough.  Because all that funk is already in the water, it's already not laughable.  This isn't some coffee filter or Brita filter that mostly deals with treated USA tap water, it's pulling an insanely high concentration of suspended solids from funky water.

To utilize this technology in a sizable capacity that could service a community is a steep initial cost.  To manage the solid waste of accumulated filter media is an additional problem and cost.  Incinerate/bury/pile it?  Countries have a enough trouble maintaining their existing water treatment facilities to any standard for whatever geographical reach they can afford.

So far it just looks like a neat product to pickup at Wal-Mart.

This is for crisis situations and other types of emergencies only. It's not a means to permanent replace water treatment facilities. It's meant to stop refugee camps from forming.

He also said in the comments that it was mostly intended for use in third world countries where the water is dangerous because of diseases, not industrial pollutants.

To argue that this product is bad for the environment is laughable. The larger container could filter enough previously undrinkable water for a family of 4 to drink for 3 years. That's 4,380 cups of clean water. That's water for a village of 100 for over 40 days.

To say this is creating new concentrated waste is also laughable. This is not creating anything. It's simply filtering out the waste that is already there and collecting it in a way that is easy to dispose of.

To say this is to too expensive for the "3rd worlders" to afford to make it a practical solution obviously didn't pay attention to the presentation. It's not for the "3rd worlders" to afford. It's for the Relief aid to afford to give out to those that need it. The US & EUR spend billions every year on foreign relief and that is who is supposed to be buying this product. If the "3rd worlders" could afford this bottle, they wouldn't need it as they could already afford to buy bottled drinking water of their own or just build a plant to filter their own water.

Stem Cell Breakthrough!! Stem Cells now harvested from Belly & Thigh fat. ::throws away P90X discs::

Liposuction leftovers make easy stem cells: study
Quote
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fat sucked out of chunky thighs or flabby bellies might provide an easy source of stem cells made using new and promising technology, U.S. researchers reported on Tuesday.

They found immature fat cells in the material removed during liposuction were easy to transform into cells called induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells.

They were easier to work with than the skin cells usually used to make iPS cells, the team at Stanford University's School of Medicine in California reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

IPS cells are made using genes that take them back in time to a more immature and pliable state. They can then be re-directed to form heart cells, bone cells, brain cells or any other type of desired cell.

"They are more embryonic-like than fibroblasts, which take more effort to reprogram."

"Not only can we start with a lot of cells, we can reprogram them much more efficiently," said Dr. Joseph Wu, who worked on the study.

"Fibroblasts, or skin cells, must be grown in the lab for three weeks or more before they can be reprogrammed. But these stem cells from fat are ready to go right away."

We just took 2 steps forward.

1 step towards a slimmer nation

1 step towards the fountain of youth

And one step back

....being fat could now be seen as a financial benefit.
