Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 445: I Made a Stage with Boos in It
« on: September 23, 2015, 08:45:21 AM »
Hi!

Am I the only one who is having problems with the forwarding function in the last few episodes?

I use "Pocketcasts" on Android 5.1 and all the other podcasts work just fine as usual. I set the forward button to "forward 10 seconds" and the rewind button to "rewind 30 seconds".

Problem is, that if I press forward, it sets me BACK to last section. I could imagine that you have a new setup for  chapter marks.
If I listen in my car and get out of it, the next time my phone connects via bluetooth the podcast does not start from where I left, but again from the start of the last chapter mark.

Even if I press somewhere on the time line it jumps right to the closest chapter mark.
This is very annyoing and makes it impossible for me enjoy your greatly appriciated podcast at the time.

Does anyone else have the same problems or maybe even a solution?

Cheers,

Christoph

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 362: The Day the Music Died
« on: December 17, 2013, 04:37:25 PM »
Great show once again guys!

To comment the first part of the show:

I think the day the music died was actually when Nintendo first teasered the WiiU on E3.
Everyone knew it was way to weak to compete with the comming console generation and even would be worse then the ps360 when it comes to ports - as always with Nintendo hardware.

When the final specs were out and the gamepad did clearly not come with a game to showcase what it would be worse, really everyone should have gotten it.

There are at least 5 hardcore Nintendo fans in my friendcircle and not a single one of them has a WiiU (a lot of them have 3DSs). I baught Gamecube and Wii on launchday and was not really sure to buy a WiiU.
What f*ed me up in the end was my experience with ZombiU at the Vienna "Gamecity" fair.
Bad graphics, unprecise motion controlls and the second screen on a TV based system sucked - even ZombiU making the most of it.
The only person I know that owns a WiiU writes reviews for a german internetcommunity and he will of course get a PS4.

As a hardcore Nintendo fan I feel like everyone who still bought a WiiU did not think about it twice. It is way overpriced (whatever Nintendo says it costs them to build it), was old when it launched and the promised 3rd party support is the same old Nintendo bullshit as always since the N64.

I will now go back to play awsome games on my 3DS - yeah there is a Nintendosystem with GAMES out there people!

Nice engine, but I think RE:R still looks better overall.

@OP:

I really do share your experience with Zelda. I really tried to like TLP but it just felt too stretched and I have not even finished SS because it just is not enjoyable for me.

I still own an old NES and sometimes set it up (what is a PITA on modern TVs) to play games like North&South, Ikari Warriors, Gauntlet, Castlevania etc.
It is not that I miss just the games, it is the overall nostalgia feeling. Getting games just for events like birthday and Christmas, playing with my brother for hours or trade games with friends.

Today I am so oversaturated with games (especially on steam) and can't even finish most of the pearls. Xenoblade is still waiting with another awsome 40 hours I guess but it seems impossible for me to find the time to give it a go.

Awsome games to come back to are the RPGs/ARPGs from the golden SNES era like FF, ChronoTrigger, SoM, SoE, Lufia and so on.
Also there are a lot of DS games that bring back the feelings of my childhood. Check out the 3 Castlevania games on DS. You can get the PAL versions on Amazon still new for unter 20 Euros.

Sadly enough I kind of broke up with the Mario series. I did not like NSMB on the DS and also 3DLand.
My brother on the other hand, who had played the same games as I did in the past, loves 3DLand.

TalkBack / Re: How Do Wii U's Sales Compare to Nintendo's Past Consoles?
« on: November 06, 2013, 04:05:47 AM »
As someone owning almost every Nintendo console and handheld - and none of MSs or Sonys - I think Nintendo deserves bad sales for building shitty hardware and making mistakes people could not even understand in the Gamecube era.

BUG DESTROYS PKMN Y/X SAVEFILES

Your collection of pocket monsters is potentially at risk.
A small number of Pokémon X and Y gamers are reporting that saving in a certain area of the world causes the game to freeze, and rebooting the 3DS does not fix the issue. After the initial bug, the game loads the save and then immediately freezes again.
We’ve reached out to Nintendo to confirm if this glitch is real and if it plans to release a bug-fixing patch. We’ll update this post with any new information.
The Pokémon trainers reporting this bug claim that it happens when saving in the outside streets area of Lumiose City, one of the major hubs. The error causes Pokémon X or Y to hard-lock, and the player can only regain control of the system by holding down the power button. You can see how the game freezes even after loading the save in a video uploaded to YouTube:

A few gamers reported the issue in a thread on gaming message board Gamefaqs. The glitch seems to affect both digital and physical copies of both X and Y. Until Nintendo issues a patch, it is probably wise to avoid saving in Lumiose City.source: venturebeat.com

beeing just 40 hours into xenoblade i feel so sorry for monolith. maybe they have the best game (at least top 10 if it is as good as xenoblade but in HD) of the current and coming console generation and they bringing it to wiiU.

i am a nintendo fanboy but damn - ps4 for 50 $ more? just bayonetta and X can't be the reason to spend so much money on a technically 6 year old console with nothing else in the pipe.

Brief but deplorable representation of female figures.  Can you clarify this?  I'm getting a bit tired of this kind of thing and it's a huge turn-off for me nowadays.

Near the end of Simon's section, there's a boss fight that involves some scantily clad enemies with stupidly disproportionate female form. Their "thing" is that they essentially try to seduce Simon. During the fight, they regain health by kissing each other.

I really did not like the demo but ... BEST GAME EVER! ^^

no, really, as mentioned those biatchez do just what the are supposed to do.

not a rumor but a fact:
wii games will be upscaled to HD if you play them on wiiU, altough nintendo said they would not be.
this happens after installing the first 1GB firmware update.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Nintendo & Amazon
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:28:09 PM »
I posted this in another thread:

Nintendo has to deal with a lot of stuff being both a publisher and a console manufacturer. If you live in the UK and went inside a GAME store did you ever notice how Nintendo products are always near the back of the store or some hidden away corner?

This is because Nintendo refuses to pay GAME for "premium" space, they have a weird antagonistic business relationship with each other. When GAME were starting to go bankrupt Nintendo were the first to refuse them stock of new games because they knew GAME wouldn't be able to pay for them at a later date, then Capcom did the same.

Here's how I imagine it

Nintendo: We're launching a new console and I was thinking if we could make a deal, I'll pay you x amount of money and for x amount of time you give preferential treatment by helping advertise the Wii U on your website.
Amazon: Everyones products get equal treatment, I'm sorry we can't cut a deal
Nintendo: So we can't work anything out? At all?
Amazon: Nope
Nintendo: Well if you're not going to help me sell the Wii U then you're not going to sell any of my stuff. NEVER EVER EVER!! and your website sucks because its trying to recommend me anger management books when I obviously don't need them

@5kytar
my brothers owns this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41yowQLfBQL._SS500_.jpg DSlite and it looks awsome but my black one is definitely more comfortable for your eyes during longer sessions. imho that is nintendos intention.

i also did not like the colours of the 3ds (silver, blue, red here in europe) but then my brother got the red one and it looks way better then on the pics i have seen.
it is a metalic colour and has a matt finish so you won't have fingerprints all over it like on your DS lite.

well fitting covers are also an option http://my.opera.com/Nplus/blog/2012/02/08/custom-3ds-fatal-frame-4?prevpoll=2 or if money does not matter, just get it airbrushed or mod it. check this out: http://www.zeldaeurope.de/fanbereich/mod.php

true story bro, but when you look at ninja gaiden, there are also a lot of characters on the screen. the enemy models are quite good and the game should also have a high fps rate, as i can tell from gameplay trailers.
