Do we think Dragon Quest XI will ever release on switch?

It was the first game officially announced for the NX and Square Enix even set up their own switch division, but given that they are in no rush to even talk about their brand-defining, genre-defining, mainline RPG series on switch; I have to wonder if it's been cancelled due to technical reasons. Why else would it be on ice for so long?

I think it will come. Late 2019.

However, I don't think we are ever getting a western release of Dragon Quest Heroes.

At E3 2018, I asked director Takeshi Uchikawa and producers Hokuto Okamoto and Hikari Kubota for an update on the Switch version. What was the holdup?

“We’re making it,” said Okamoto. “We’re still making it. I can’t say anything more.”

Yuji Horii also said development on the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI was going well earlier this month and hinted at news possibly coming at TGS in September. It has been a bizarre saga, but after the huge success of Octopath Traveler (and RPGs in general) on Switch, I think Square Enix will find a way to make it work on the system one way or another.

In general Square Enix likes to take their time with their big two series with newer titles. FF and DQ for those at home.  They tend to take the longest with those two since with FF they are all new settings or the gameplay is different from the previous title.  DQ is usually worth the wait and are pretty outstanding titles.

Kingdom Hearts must be their biggest series since that seems to have the longest wait between actual number installments judging by the time taken from 2 to 3.
