Pilotwings Resort...worth it?
« on: May 07, 2016, 02:18:05 PM »
In our glorious "summer of no Nintendo games", I'm looking for a few oddities I never played originally to fill my gaming time. I never picked up the Pilotwings 3DS launch title and it can be found pretty cheaply now.  I know the reviews were mostly mixed, but can anyone confirm or deny that this is worth it (given no Nintendo games for a while)?  I'm hoping the super stable 3D of my New 3DS will also improve the experience that original reviewers had.

I'm not a big fan of the series, but enjoyed the game well enough.  It's something I played with for a while, then traded away.  If I could find it cheap now (say, under $15) I'd re-buy.

So I guess that's a cautious recommendation?  The game doesn't really have story or strong goals, but is still enjoyable in small bursts.

Most of the mediocre reviews were because it's fairly light on content, but what's there is really good. If you can get it cheap I'd definitely recommend it.

I agree with Insanolord. It's light on content, but it's worth it for a lesser price than MSRP. I didn't mind it, but I didn't have a 3DS on launch (got in during the Ambassador window after the initial price cut), so I had other games after Pilotwings to play, so I didn't go after high scores on every mission. Doing that will definitely make the game even more worth it, if you're so inclined.

The game was once clearanced out of stores for $5, so if you can find it for about that then I'd say it's worth it. It's a game that never should have been $39.99.

Well, I found it this weekend at my go-to used game store for $6.  It's been pretty fun so far (relaxing, actually).  I may get more mileage out of it going for 3 stars on each challenge.

I really hope Nintendo revisits Wuhu Island in a future game.  I thought I read somewhere once that Miyamoto wanted the island to develop a certain mystique over a series of games reminiscent of Hyrule, or some other Zelda land.

I agree that Wuhu Island as a shared location that can be explored developed could be an interesting idea.

How many games use the island as their setting now?  A couple of Wii Fit game, Pilotwings Resort, and Wii Sports Resort?  Is there anything else using it as a notable set piece?

Mario Kart 7 has two courses based on Wuhu Island. :)
