Official 'I'm Watching G4 E3 live" Thread
« on: July 10, 2007, 03:12:11 PM »
I have to say the pre-show is...interesting. Adam Sessler and whomever his co-host guy is (I haven't seen Mogran Webb yet) are dressed in suits and discussing what's coming up and talking about previous E3's and what microsofts previous E3 showings had to offer.

It's got a somewhat "classy" feel to it so far and very professional. At least for this segment haha.

So is anyone else watching?

Update: DO NOT WATCH THE NINTENDO CONFERENCE VIA G4 Later today. Watch it on a web site or something, the commercials cut into what were many of the 'best' parts of the MS conference.

Fine be that way =P

I'll give Factor 5 credit, seeing Lair on an actual TV screen was pretty awesome, looks fantastic.

  • Microsoft Xbox Live person just finished mocking the PS3 price drop stating "did they really drop the price? or did they just pile more stuff on it". Hehe let the trash talkin' begin!

  • MS says Wifi isn't in the cards for Xbox 360.

  • MS spokesperson says "Peter Moore will be playing an instrument" when asked if he could share with G4 anything that hasn't been said yet.

    -------------------------------------------------------

  • Guitar Hero III being shown. One of the game creators is battling one of the hosts.

  • Game host losses and smashes a wired version of the GHIII guitar into the ground and storms off stage. (Probably scripted but still...poor guitar).

    -------------------------------------------------------

  • Microsoft is letting people into the  press conference area and MS music is playing. The conference is said to start soon.

  • Awkward moment of camera not cutting away from the hosts. Peter Moore will be taking a stage in "half an hour".

  • Discussion of "what to expect" from the press conference which is said to air in 20 minutes. Wii is already being talked about and compared to Xbox 360 sales, the hosts say how Xbox 360 sales are nearly the same as the original Xbox and that Wii is selling at a higher rate. They wonder if MS is going to show games more along the lines of the unique Wii titles.

  • Wii is being discussed now for the "what to expect segment". They say to expect more "big games for gamers" and that gamers are looking to see something more serious from Nintendo. They go on to say they expect to see improved third party support. Adam says that the 3rd party games that don't sell well really haven't been made all too well and that he hopes 3rd party support inproves in terms of quality. Adam finishes saying he wishes to see a new Ice Climbers game.

*another awkward moment of not going to commercial right away . . . they say they will continue to discuss Nintendo when they get back*

  • Morgan has joined Adam and the other guy at the press conference. Xbox 360 red ring issue being discussed as well as the warranty. Adam Sessler has a horrible habit of cutting people off. . .10 minutes till the press conference. Nintendo not being talked about any further.

  • They point out that on the stage are 4 podium. 3 have Xbox models on them and the 4th is empty. They wonder if Peter Moore will have a new tattoo (lol) Morgan says it will be of Metal Gear. Less than 10 minutes till the conference.

  • Microsoft press conference is about to begin.

  • Live shots of the stage being shown. A band is setting up on the stage.

  • E3 2007 HAS BEGUN

  • "Please welcome 5 Halo Fans from Liberty Hills Illinois", the group of 5 are the band and I guess they are playing a Halo song.

    *band is still playing . . .*

  • "Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome Peter Moore". Peter Moore has taken the stage. Applause is seemingly weak. Peter Moore thanks them for coming.

  • Discussing the new E3 format. States that EVERY demo and EVERY game will be available this year. States they have the best video game holiday line up in history.

  • Xbox 360 Logo shows. Audience goes crazy. Peter Moore has taken up a Guitar and and is about to play Rock Band. Audience cheers as Peter and 3 others rock out.

  • (Lol) Peter Moore trying to sing is quite a sight. Song has finished.

  • Just kidding . . . Peter apparently paused the game. G4 is going to commercial break as they continue to sing.

    *extremely long commercial break . . .*

  • Mass Effect has just been unveiled. GOOD JOB G4 the entire presentation was missed. The title will be available this November.

  • Yay we are treated to a boring chart of sales. Peter says Xbox 360 is in a close race with the Wii in terms of sales but is putting a beating on PS3. Shows 3rd party top 10 games for 360, displays 0's across the board for Wii and PS3. More boring numbers. . . claims Xbox 360 is leading the industry (yeah right).

  • Discussing how Halo 3, GTA 4 and Madden 08 will drive holiday sales and be a "perfect storm" for the season. Similar to 2004.

  • Showcasing games that will help push holiday sales and sales of the 360.

  • No surprise games shown, audience remains silent.

  • Scene It making an exclusive debut on Xbox live . . . and while they are talking about this G4 goes into a break. They are discussing a new controller but it cuts to a commercial.

*G4 picking the WORST time to goto commercials*

**From IGN.com: 8:59 - New controller for Scene It''s trivia questions. Looks like a stoplight. Worst announcement ever. (LOL)**

  • Show Returns. Naruto Rise of Ninja shown with minimal applause.

  • Madden 08 is being played. MS touts its running twice as fast and twice as smooth as last years versions. Pretty boring.

  • Xbox live and Xbox Live Arcade growth and games are being discussed. 4.5 million games downloaded from Arcade since its launch.

  • Xbox Arcade game showcase being displayed.

  • Minimal applause. Sonic the Hedgehog and Golden Axe available for download tonight.

  • Xbox Live Market Place being discussed.  Xbox 360 is "leading the way in digital distribution". Announces an agreement with Disney to have their movies downloadable on Xbox live.

*Boring trailer of Walt Disney motion pictures being shown*

*Trailer begins to show more mature live action film titles.*

  • Trailer concludes, every single movie shown will be downloadable tonight in HD. Crowd applauds.

  • Announces Canada and Europe to be included in the Xbox 360 Live Market HD downloads system.

  • Xbox 360 Elite announced for europe. No applause.

  • Games being discussed once again. Running down 3rd party support and talking about Halo 3.

  • Racing genre being discussed. Project Gotham Racing 4 announced and is about to be shown.

  • Gameplay shown, includes motorcycle racing with cars.

    *commercial break*

*Impressions so far: surprisingly dull with no real surprises so far. If Nintendo has a strong showing and some new games to show off they could easily steal E3 again this year*

  • *From IGN* Kim mentioning Alan Wake, Too Human, Fable 2, and Halo Wars. Now talking about a new Halo story to be told by Peter Jackson working in conjunction with Bungie. Now talking about Lost Odyssey - trailer playing - showing character talking mixed with older cinematic footage - protagonist bitching about being immortal 0 fighting armored guards in cities and large reptilian creatures, looks very Final Fantasy in creature desings and town exploration bits - now a battle montage with various fantastical creatures.

  • Commercial break over, lead designer from gears of war brought to stage. About to demo Gears of War playing it on Games for Windows service. Discussing new multiplayer mode, arenas and new single player things. Showcasing fighting of the 'brewmac' which is a new enemy to fight which was shown in the game trailer but not originally included.

  • Stops fighting midfight and tells the audience if they want to see how it concludes to play the game for Windows XP of Vista this holiday season.

  • Announcing games for windows Live partners, Sega, Edios and THQ. Will be built into Epics Unreal Engine 3. Says this makes it easier for developers using the engine to bring it to Xbox 360.

    *Commercial Break*

  • *From IGN* Now showing Games for Windows branded game montage - Flight SImulater X expansion, Thrillville: Off the Rials, Bee Movie Game, Hellgate: London, Age of Empires III THe Asian Dynasties, Stranglehold, Gears of War, BioShock, Crysis, Universe at War: Earth Assault, BlackSite ARea 51, World in Conflict, Age of Conan Hyborian Adventures, Lost Planet Extreme Comdition, Kane and Lynch Dead Men, Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts, Zoo Tycoon 2 Extinct Animals, Juiced 2, Viva Pinata, Spider Man Friend or Foe.

  • Commercial over. Call of Duty 4 being shown. Gameplay looks sharp. Two of the people who worked on the game are now playing it. I'll give credit to this game it really looks great.

  • Gameplay continues. I've never really been a fan of these war games but this game looks really good. High level of polish and silky smooth gameplay. Gameplay ends and crowd applauds. Exclusive to Xbox 360 an online multiplayer beta is announced. They tell players to check out the web site for more details.

  • Peter Moore says the next installment of the Tom Clancey series is coming this fall.

  • Grand Theft Auto 4 is being talked about. Is now being shown on the screen. Peter says the first two trailers were captures from Xbox 360 gameplay.

  • Trailer ends. Oct. 16 release date for GTA 4. Two exclusive episodes will be released via Xbox live for GTA in the spring. Crowd applauds.

  • Discussing Japanese publishers. Devil May Cry 4 for Xbox 360.

  • Brand new game about to be shown.

  • RESIDENT EVIL 5 BEING SHOWN

  • It is said that this is the only game not coming out this year. July 26th Xbox live players will be able to download the full version of the trailer that was shown.

  • Crowd applauds, Assassins Creed is about to be shown. Massive area being shown, gorgeous graphics. Interacting with the NPCs. The person controlling the game pushes crowd people and punches out a beggar.

  • The game has a few hic ups. Upon killing someone the body floats over a non existent ledge. The developer laughs nervously and moves on. Combat is being shown against a group of NPCs. Discussing Chase AI and how no two chases will be the same. Chase ends and the crowd cheers.

  • Star wars is being talked about. (In terms of epic scale and story telling which leads into . . .)

  • Halo 3 footage being shown. Confusingly enough live action footage is being shown. The short movie clip ends . . . no gameplay shown just a live action take on Halo.

  • New console being announced for "Halo Nation". A Halo 3 Special Edition of Xbox 360 is shown in the green color that master chief wears. Audience remains relatively quiet.

  • Peter Moore is rapping up the conference. It's funny to note the graphics they choose to display their game titles are encased in small "windows" that look a lot lie the Wii interfaces tv windows on the main menu.

  • Peter Moore steps off stage. Footage of a Halo 3 finally being shown.

  • Peter asks if the audience is "enjoying this". No one is heard chearing (or at least I can't hear them).

*G4 just cut into a commercial break in the middle of it, horrible production G4*

**Looking at the IGN comments, while on this commercial break, Xbox fans are saying this is one of the worst conferences ever.**

  • And the conference is over.

Horribly boring conference, aside from Resident Evil which was very short.

All I want to say is that remember who had exclusive news on Viva Pinata Party before it was announced (check "Microsoft showing their true colors once again").

Wow, so the MS E3 show was basically a huge pile of old news, on a big screen.  Can't forget how many times they referenced watching the old news on a big screen.

The MS Conference was ok, but there simply wasn't anything ground-breaking. And some of the demos were sort of lackluster, like the GTA IV trailer we already saw, the really, really, slow tutorial level of CoD4, and etc. Still, this was probably MS' best E3 conference ever.

Anyone know where we can get news on Sony's Killzone 2 game event that starts in 30 minutes?

It was OK, but nothing really stood out. Thankfully, they couldn't waste a lot of time talking because they simply had too many games coming out this fall to show off. It's like constant game trailers. Nothing new actually announced though, aside from GP's scoop on Viva Pinata party.

The Call of Duty 4 Beta Forum is dead. Too many connections.

The Halo footage, I like and its nice to see Halo without texture pop, but I wish I could get an up close look at it. I'm sure the trailer will be on Live at some point. But nothing new shown for anyone who has played the multi-player demo (weapon wise).

The Scene-It announcement was cool, but still I wonder how it will affect the casual crowd. Is it really that popular of a game? And what is the price of the regular one? Looks like the most expensive one is around $50. A big 'eh' on that announcement.

For all the neat stuff shown, nothing blew me away. Props to GP for the Viva Pinata. But dang if I didn't think Mario Party while watching it.

There was more than animation to the Disney films. And HD could provide a better color palette, less dot crawl, fewer artifacts, an overall cleaner experience, and additional extras. No need to go in attack mode.

I see. If it seemed like I was attacking Phoenix I wasn't. I was just commenting on how HD-DVD Disney movies was just stupid to begin with. Also, I guess I'm not as much as a quality freak like everybody else. The DVD copy of the Lion King and Alice in Wonderland I own look fantastic and I don't how they could be any better, but I guess they can be.
