Just so you guys know, one of the rumors I heard about last year may be coming to fruition tomorrow.  I can't get a confirmation from the guy, but I think it's Dead Rising.  It's the only Capcom game besides Mega Man that I didn't receive a "no" about when I was quizzing him.  I could possibly be reading too much into it, but this same person told me Dead Rising was a certainty a long time ago, so kind of odd he doesn't say anything now.

Hopefully that new Retro/Zelda rumor is actually hinting at the Ganondorf adventure game.

I actually have some new rumors to report from my source.  I tried to find my post in the old rumors thread, because I'm pretty sure just about every game he told me about has been confirmed, though not all for the Wii....yet.   I couldn't find it however.  But just trust me, this kid has some info.

Anyway, there are three fairly major rumors this go around.

1) The old zapper games, Wild Gunmen, Hogans Alley, Gumshoe ect, aren't being released through the VC, but instead through WiiWare to be used with the new Nintendo Zapper or Wiimote with some updates to the games.  Also, in the same sentence, he told me Zombies Ate My Neighbors is getting the Wii Ware treatment, complete with online co-op and some new goodies.  Apparently they're using small teams of developers to update, add new levels or due some other maintenance on the games.  He didn't make clear whether Lucas Arts is working on Zombies, or perhaps just farmed it out.

2) If the Sonic RPG sells well on the DS, Bioware is interested in making a full Nintendo character RPG and have already laid out initial outlines about the game with Nintendo.  Seems like a foregone conclusion.  How this intertwines with Square Enix makes me wonder about the validity of this one, however.  Unless Square is involved as well.  Then again, a Mario rpg is just the Mario universe, whereas this proposed game is every Nintendo character ever created.

3) Timesplitters 4 is still coming, though it may not be Wii exclusive anymore.  Apparently Microsoft is in hot pursuit of the property and wants to publish it.  However, it's unknown what Free Radical is planning.  *I thought Free Radical had already signed on with a publisher, but I have no proof of it.*  The problem for MS is the game has been built to make the most out of the Wii hardware to this point.

Now my personal rumor.  EA has discussed making Madden more stylized for the Wii.  Think the same realistic gameplay, but with cell shaded characters, forgoing realistic players for caricatures.  No, not big headed little people, more like highly stylized, almost cartoon, recreations of all the players.  Apparently, this would help out with more fluid motion/animation as well.  In the end, they believe this would be the best of both worlds for the Wii-great stylized graphics rooted in realistic sports simulation.  I'm thinking '09 for this idea, however as 08 is getting ramped up currently.

Well, my buddy was right, Bionic Commando was coming, but he got the console wrong.  But he insists Timesplitters 4 is going to the Wii.  He says it's a fact.  And as far as he knows, it's exclusive.  I hope to hell he gets more than just the game right with this one.

He also let slip that an old EA property from the 90's is being resurrected for the Wii, but he can't tell me the name yet.  He did tell me it's not a sports game, so take that for what it's worth.

It isn't, though. An HDTV is a TV which can run in 1080p resolution with a specialized tuner built in.

Widescreen TVs were being sold for years before HDTV came out.

But in the U.S., 99.9% of widescreen tvs sold in the last 5 years are HD.  It could be those people have SD widescreens from 2000.  But it's more than likely the UK SD thing making the poll meaningless.

So many complaints about the AI, it makes me laugh.  What skill level were you playing?  Because on All pro and Madden, the AI is tough as nails.  If you play on Pro setting, you might as well play rookie.  The two are only marginally different and both are quite dumb.

As far as this years version goes, I think it's better than 07.  Last year was missing far more than just online in comparison to the other systems.  This year everything that was missing last season, -plus the EXCLUSIVE 4 player mini games, have been included.  That alone means to me this game gets a 7.5-8.

Of course it's disappointing the engine is essentially last gen.  However EA found that they underestimated the Wii far too late to do anything about it now.  If it means skipping a year and coming back with a new engine next year, or getting the best out of this engine as long as they can, guess which way they'll go?  And I understand, from a business standpoint, why.

Still, I find it hard to fault EA when they're putting forth a considerable effort into their Wii games, unlike some other third parties..

Add all of the reasons above to Apple having a niche following, and there's no way it would succeed.  And they know this.  Unless they release the Gpod, a gaming dedicated machine, there's absolutely no way it could work.

-Free Radical has a Wii exclusive FPS on the way, could be TimeSplitter 4 (waiting for Leipzig...)

Maybe my contact was correct?  And I might have more info next week sometime.  Lets hope anyway.

"UK studio Free Radical Design has confirmed to CVG that development of TimeSplitters 4 is well underway and anything is possible regarding the platforms it'll launch on.

"Yes, TimeSplitters 4 is happening. At the moment it's in the very early concept stages, and as yet it's unsigned to any publisher," Free Radical Design's screenwriter Rob Yescombe told us.

Regarding a platform it looks like there are no specific exclusive plans although that could change when the game's gets picked up by a publisher. You've got to think that PS3 would be a prim(ate) target given the series' history and success on PS2. "Anything and everything is currently a possibility. We're not saying no to anything," added Yescombe."

So far, so good.  LINKY

The difference between movies like Hostel and games like Manhunt 2 is that one is watched and played, while the other is simply watched...

And both are simulated.  I see little difference in the end result for the player/viewer.  If you want to get technical, people used to flock in droves to watch men battle to the death in Rome.  Is Manhunt worse than that?

The constant use of questionable analysis makes me so aggravated that I almost can't speak.  For instance, when has it been shown that watching simulated violence causes real world violent tendencies?  And if there is a report which states this (no matter how ridiculous it is, I assure you) where is the proof that it wasn't a the other way around?  A young person who already had violent or disturbing tendencies and actually sought out this type of media to indulge their fantasies?

You know what?  Screw being overly cautious.  I changed my mind.  I will now gloat day after day about Nintendo dominance.  I was a kid when Nintendo dominated, and it took a long time to get back to it.  But it's here now and I don't want to waste my energy on what ifs...I'm going straight to what is.  And what is happening is the Wii and DS are absolutely crushing all competition without any of the big three games out yet.  Simply amazing turnaround.

About the graphics concern in 3-4 years.  I have a feeling we may have a new Wii model, the Wii 2.0, which will be a significant upgrade, by 2010.  If the Wii can keep momentum for the next two years, which It should, then Nintendo can announce the successor at E3 '09.  I also believe the Wii 2.0 will be affordable because they will base it on the current tech.  $250.  Complete backwards compatibility with the Wii and VC libraries.   And the installed user base will be huge by then.  There's no stopping Nintendo now!

Feel free to relax and enjoy the ride.

As a Nintendo recluse for the past II generations, am I the only one being overly cautious with the success Nintendo is having right now?  I mean, if the roles of the PS3 and the Wii were reversed, surely we would concede that Nintendo had already lost this gen, right?

Art is art, no matter what the form.

Art.

"While the exhibit's representatives claim that all of the bodies were obtained through the Dalian Medical University Plastination Laboratories in China, human rights campaigners point out that Dalian University "[has] had been previously implicated in the use of executed prisoners for commercial purposes".[2] If the bodies are those Chinese prisoners whose bodies were used without their consent, it may be a violation of human rights and of Chinese law."

Despite your showing this paragraph to point out what may be some heinous crimes, the fact remains it still resonates as art.  Art doesn't fall under control of any man made laws, the artist does.

As for Manhunt 2, I suspect Rockstar new this was coming and purposely sought this type of reaction.  They will resubmit it and it will receive a M rating.  All the attention can only help.

And besides, it's Nintendo, I'm sure most people would have rather they made an attempt to make the game great (like they do with most of their franchises) than just cut it and work on more casual titles.

Agreed.  It's very worrisome to me.  However the proof is in the pudding, and until I see or hear that this is happening, I won't go ballistic.

I just got it and played about 15 minutes and I too had a control problem.  I immediately changed my camera to advanced and it's much better.  It works just like a mouse basically.  The camera moves where you aim, but if you have the setting on the easiest setting, it moves less, feeling more like a light gun game.   The bounding box is bigger so you can aim within the screen a good amount before pushing the camera left or right(like Red Steel) If you change the setting to expert, it moves a little too fast for me right now.  So I am sticking with advanced for the time being.  I'll post later after I play more.

Prettier Confirmed?

Definitely a step-up up from '07.  It's a step up from Xbox too.

The only thing that has me irked is there are no online leagues in this version.  It had to be held off until '09.  But this is made up for by the mini games which rock incredibly.

I donĀ“t know what you mean, when you write that some countries are left unaffected and others not. To me, this violence in the media is a scourge which saturates society affecting every person in the world who play games, or watch really violent movies. Sometimes I feel that the reason why there has been a surge in police brutality, militarization of the Police is because they deal with ever increasing brutality from people in society, and so have to take their precautions, and be ready to strike when the unavoidable happens. When people boil over in their brains.

What I mean by that is a country like Canada, or Japan or dozens of others which are exposed to the same media we are don't have the same volume of violence in their respective societies.  Well, how can that be?  If a game like Manhunt, or GTA influence our children so much, why is it only in certain areas of the world that violent crime is out of control?  The answer?  It's because violent crime has little to do with absorbing violent media (games, books, films, music).  There are a multitude of things that go into making a person violent, and violent video games isn't one of them.
